Me and another forum member have a ongoing bet and experiment to see which exercises is more effective. The exercises of choice will be Bench Vs. PushUPS. The goal....To reach a 300lb bench before the other person.

I hypothesize that push ups alone will grant a bigger end result than bench presses because your moving your body through space and not the weight. My current 1RM for push ups is 235. My opponent is 255 (I believe).

The first person to get to 300, must post a video!!

Tonight will be my first night with this goal in mind and I will post my routine and weight lifted when It has been completed.

This should be interesting to see play out.. Though my experience with pushups is that eventually you won't be able to stimulate your body as much. You adjust to the pushups, just like your body adjusts to walking every day. I suppose if you keep adding weight and doing different variations though you may be able to prevent that stall...

Cool idea though, thumbs up for wanting to try something different :)

This doesnt make alot of sense to me. How do your muscles know whats actually moving? and what if the weight on the bar is greater than your body weight?

Close Chain Vs. Open Chain movements my friend...

Dips, pull ups, chin ups, push ups tend to grant bigger gains than their bortheren movements like lat pull down, bench press, and so forth and so on. This is believed to be because its harder to move your body through space, than to move weight through space while staying stationary.
