Anyone pull with briefs + suit (sumo)?

Will they just get in the way?

What carry over do you think you can get?

Thank you.

I think you're better off with a tight suit, because you'll get pop all the way to lockout. If you get setup with good form in briefs and suit, then your gear is probably too loose. There's a good number of multi-ply lifters that deadlift sumo in just the squat suit. It's the right tightness and lets them setup properly.

My best setup was really tight metal pro briefs under a metal squatter that was way too big, but I could crank the straps down tight. It was essentially like putting straps on my briefs I guess.

I would just test out both and see what you think.

It was always too much gear for me...... I pull around 600 with no belt or suit ( conventional)..... with briefs and a suit sumo I've only hit 606 in a meet, I just felt like it through my form off too much. Even a light Frantz suit over my 3-ply OK briefs is too much. I tried just the 3-ply briefs under a singlet this past year and didn't even go over 6........ this year I switched to a double-ply deadlift suit and have gone 650 easily in it..... no briefs, just 2-plys of suit......

You could always just give a few gear combos a try during your off season. Assuming you are a ~600lb puller, just load up 500 and spend an hour pulling in different combos of gear you own..... it'll at least give you an idea of what works for you and what doesn't.

I know of one person who does it and it is 50/50 they can get to the bar in a good enough position to pull.

One of my training partners pulls in the same briefs and canvas suit that he squats in and has pulled 705 at around 205 bodyweight. He has monkey arms though and can't bench for ****. :)

They just get in my way. I pull in a 5 year old pro squatter with velcro straps that is big on me.

However, I know a guy who pulls in boss briefs (a size too big) and used to be a boss suit (a size bigger than what he squats in, but now uses one of those velocity suits). He pulls around 700 at 198. Pulls sumo as well.

I guess it all just depends. But IMO, metal briefs and predator briefs are pretty thick to wear under a suit. Only messed around with boss a little bit.

I'd just use a suit, unless you're one of the chosen few, no gear is going to help you tremendously on the pull.

Most guys I've seen with real good sumo deadlifts use just a suit.

Gear can help big time on sumo. The best I've seen is 150 lbs (455 raw to 605) out of a super centurion squat suit.

Snug suit and learn to manipulate the straps.. Alot of the WS guys are using the leviathon NO briefs and really cranking the straps.

i pulled sumo in a metal ace suit. without briefs i pulled 529 with briefs (single ply metal viking squatter) i pulled 556. i found the briefs gave me more pop off the floor.

I've seen some where it backwards too. The butt is cut bigger than the crotch. When you flip it, then it's tighter and more supportive. You can get away with that since there's no briefs.
