Other than being able to ride the shirt lower, what pros (and cons) are there to completely open back shirts and those with a velcro strap to enclose it? I notice a lot of the top benchers wear open back shirts opposed to a closed back or partial back. I never benched in an open back shirt before so please excuse my ignorance.

Easier to get on and off.
Easier to adjust.

Like Nick said. And basically the most effective part of the shirt to bench with is the collar. The more the collar is under the bar path the more support it will provide, and the more weight you should be able to push back up. Open back is much easier to get the collar low and under the bar path.

i just switched to multi ply fed so got my super katana cut and added velcro straps.. i love it! I can crank it way lower, and super easy to get in and out! waiting on my double ply phenom to arrive :)
