Pressing Event and Bench Day

12" LOG Press - Every rep was a full clean and press. Also every rep was done with one motion from the floor to overhead "Viper Press" except the 400.

If anyone is interested in one of these exercises and is not sure what it is please let me know. Right now I am training for The ASC PRO AM in Georgia March 26th. That is why I am training the log the way I am. Hoping to get at least 8 or 9 reps in a minute on comp. day. At the same time I am trying to advance my bench as I would like to get a 2300 raw total this year. Tomorrow is Storngman event training.

I know you don't lift in gear anymore, but you should list your best geared lifts along with your raw numbers. Because what you accomplished in gear at your age was very impressive.

This should take some questions away form poor Tom Mutafis that guys gets bombarded with them maybe we can share them out between the two of you :)

Firstly nice sessions mate! Few questions if you dont mind. I am training for my second Strongman comp on May 1st so got lots to learn!

1) Is the Viper press compulsory or just quicker to get the reps out?
2)Whats a Hub lift?
3)Any chance you will be able to share any vids of your events training? Apologies if your not into sharing that stuff online :)

Thank you all for the great welcome. I will start with some of my best lifts.

Raw lifts.
Squat - 854 with no wraps and walked out.
Bench - 556
DL - 804
Total 2215

Gear
Squat - 1102 one of the first six or so people to squat 1100.
Also youngest person to Squat 1000.
Bench - 633

Strongman
American Record Log press at 440.
Stone 407 for 5 in a minute
Log 305 8 reps in a minute clean and press each rep
Thomas Inch DB Clean and pres each rep - 11 in a minute

I will also start posting my gym PR's on this journal. Brian I am not sure yet what meet I will do it at. Maybe Raw 504?????????

Kiff Viper is simply to save time, Hub lifts are where you place a plate on a bench and lift it with one hand using your grip and just holding on to the raised center of the plate, and yes I am going to start putting training vids up.

Pretty burned after the yoke so I kept the stones pretty light

Good day overall and I had pretty good speed on the yoke. Next week I will train the Yoke heavy. I will keep you all posted on my progress. Next up squat day

From the little bit that I saw, your speed looked really good on the yoke.

When do you think you'll have a list of events for your comp? I'm off July 16th and I am interested in doing it.

Well the events are still in the works but we should know soon. The contest will be in Lakeland FL most likely on July 16th at night. If anyone is iinterested more details will be coming soon. We put on one of the best amateur Strongman comps. in the country.

Pre-workout took 1 serving RESULTS and ate a NOVUS bar. After workout had a NITREAN protein drink. Also took ETS this morning.

Squats - kept the squats pretty light as I am getting ready for a Strongman comp. I figure right now I need about 8 weeks to peak for a PL meet and I am trying to adapt my training so that it will only take 6.

Z press - for those of you that are not familiar with this exercise I do it out of a power rack. The pins in the rack are set about nose high so it is at the toughest part of my press. You simply sit flat on the ground with your legs straight out in front of you and press the weight overhead off of the pins. I believe this pretty much the most difficult way you can do an overhead press. I put max weight at about 60% or so of a push press max.

Kettlebell exercise for grip strength. This is done by taking the kettlebell and pressing it overhead with one hand so the bell part is up

Also I need thank Lamb because he told me to. After workout I took a Nitrean protein shake and BCAA and will take ETS before bed. Took Results before workout. Pretty good day today glad I was able to get a PR on bench. Tomorrow is Strongman event day.

Farmers deadlift looks good, def something i have to work on.

Just thought you might want to know that your 'Hub Lift' drew a LOT of attention in my gym... haha

3 of us tried it and couldnt, even with chalk, next thing all the 'Big Men' come over 'oh it is only 15KG blah blah'

Only one got it, out of 15 attempts by everyone lol.

700 x 3 - felt my outer hammy pop on the way up so stopped at 3. Wanted to get at least 1 or 2 more but like I said my hammy popped and felt minor pain. I have felt similar pain before but not the pop in my hammy. Today it feels pretty good so hopefually I can have a good day next week. I wnt back to 510 for a rep with a little pain so stopped there.

Front Squats wit cambered bar.

240 x 2 stopped due to hammy.

Finished with some grip stuff and a little work on the concept 2 rower. I am really motivated to have a better day today and hit some pr's on my bench. I will hit 500 for 4 with no handoff as well as 520 for 2. Sometimes you just have bad days but must get past them and look for the next training day. Next week Brian and I will have great squat days. Also thanks for posting the vid Brian.

Well pretty good day. Got up foe work at 2:30 a.m. and worked 13+ hours and lifted at 6 p.m. RESULTS really helped today.

Thank you Brain but I guess it will not matter. I just got an email from AMy Jackson of the APF and she informed me that all of the spots have been taken so I will not be able to compete. Seriously!!!. Do not htink I am worthy of any special treatment but this is the first PL meet I have heard of that was not an invite only that did not accept applications till the last second. I guess I will start my training for Americas Strongest Man starting NOW. That sucks because I feel like I would have done pretty well.

Well they decided to allow me compete so I did openers last night. I felt pretty good. Got up at 230 am and lifted at 530 pm.

Squat opener 780 felt good and good depth.

Bench 525 easiest this weight has ever felt

DL 755 felt good and easy.

openers give a 2060 total.

Should be good meet.

Gotcha, so I'm sure Scott will reword that and say the youngest to squat 1100...which is even better :) and still has not been beaten, even with today's gear. I believe he was also 20yo when he squatted 1100 and at the time he did it only 6-7 other men had squatted that much.

Alright today starts the journey to ASM 2012. Today was my first day back training since lsat Saturdy and ASM. I will make sure I post all of my workouts on here as they are going to be a lot different than I am used to. I am starting the police academy next week and will need to start running again which I have been doing for the last month. I will be doing training wheather it be strongman, pl, or cardio 6 days a week or so. I plan on getting stronger and in much better shape. The running has helped mr get my resting heart rate down to 68 and I still weigh the same.

ASM was a lot of fun. I finished in 7th in a great field that included 3 WSM athletes. I also broke the WR on the certified ironmind axle clean and press at 423. This was done on second attempt and skipped 3rd because I had already won. Vid. is on Youtube. I also have the keg toss vid on facebook.
