No seriously MIOSTATIN is the gene that controls the "birth" of new muscle fibres the more present the miostatin the less mucle so by limiting this even to a factor of 10% would bring considerable natural growth ! --- I seriously think that the age of genetic engineering will bring further discoveries like these that will aid bodybuilding to go to a new level

ok, the myostatin gene is encoded at birth, i.e. belgian blue cows have a defective myostatin gene b/c of the absence of I believe base pair 10 in their genetic sequence which causes them to grow huuuuuuge muscles w/ low bodyfat. As far as blocking myostatin after birth goes, I think it'll be a while b4 it is successful. Also I read in a research article that myostain protects us from getting cancer. Not sure how true this is, but it makes you think. The supp. companies are just putting out a sh%$load of hype, just call them up and request more info on the product and they will probably tell you something like "We are not sure if it works, but we need people like you to test the product for us......it's only $179.99 per bottle, and you'll need 3 of them to get the full effect.....":D

Its there for a reason, ricky (in reference to the cancer prevention).
Same reason that things like cortisol and telomeres are a necessity. It may not be the best for bodybuilding, but its got to be there.
I'm not holding my breath on this one either.

Several supplements currently claim to block myostatin in the body. Most of them contain cystoseira canariensis type extracts from seawead.
I seem to recall that John hopkins did some studies with blocking Myostatin. The abstract is below. Since this was July of 2001 I doubt that the reality is even close for human blockers that have any affect.

Why do you generalise when for example protein was filtered succesfully into powder as whey protein was it also a scam? Time can tell not somebodys bogus ideas also I am a firm believer that genetic engineering will make us rethink our bodybuilding limits wheter we like it or not..... such advancments will be possible if not now in 10 years time its just a question of WHEN

I was directing it towards companies that "claim" to have discovered a myostatin blocking product and are marketing it as a breakthrough discovery. The ads look cute, but when you call them up or read up on a product you discover that it has not been proven yet, and it will only cost you $599.99 to TEST it. lmao
I am in now way doubting the future of myostatin inhibition, just the companies that are making millions off of *********.

What makes you think it won't be effectively just another AS or HGH for $20k/year? I really doubt that they will find a natural extract that you can get in sufficient dose at reasonable price but I guess you never know.

Here's the main thing I got from that article:
"Among the important remaining questions is whether blocking myostatin postnatally, as would be required to treat human diseases, is effective. "These proteins all block myostatin outside the cell, so we need to see if administering these proteins, rather than altering the genome, can provide similar results," he explains."
