View Full Version : Tea stunt muscle growth

My dad was a bodybuilder and we were talking on night. He told me that in one of his old bodybuilding books (he couldn’t remember the name) it said not to drink tea because there was a chemical in it that slowed or stunt muscle growth. I drink unsweetened ice tea all the time. Do you think this could be true? Or is it just an old rumor?

Along the same lines, does coffee stunt just overall growth? I've heard it a bazillion times that if you drink to much you will be shorter in life that if you didn't??

Green tea is known to downregulate androgen receptors, so this could theoretically be a problem. For other kinds of tea I'm not aware of any problems. Doesn't mean there isn't. Check PubMed if it's a big concern.
