I think he's either doing LW or MW, I'm not 100% sure but i'll ask him.

What are the qualifications for novice? I'm 18 years old, 210 lbs.

On the log presses, are you able to do a split like on the olympic clean+jerk? (one foot in front, one behind, press overhead)

On the truck pull, what is meant by standing pulling the truck backwards?

Rookie questions from a stranger to competing. I am an aspiring strongman, do you think that this event is more for experienced peoples? Obviously I'm not looking for gold here, but rather wondering if I'm capable of doing the events.

I'm thinking that I could do alright on some of the events. Very interested and looking forward to your responses.

I think you can but once you lock it out, make sure you stand straight up with your feet side by side so you'll get the down command.

I think you'll be facing the truck and walking backwards with it.

I'm sure Tom can break it down better or correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck if you decide to compete.

Here are the answers to your questions:

If you have not previously competed in a NAS sanctioned strongman event then you can enter the Novice Division.
You can split jerk the log, just need to make sure that you bring your feet back to parallel to complete the lift.
The truck pull is more of a truck 'drag' - there will be a chain with a handle attached to the front bumper of the truck and the athletes will pull the truck by walking backward. It will look like this except there will be a truck in place of the sled: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrHG6UxYNz4

This event would be great for a first-time competitor, and last year I believe that we had about 10 new athletes enter who had never competed in strongman before. All of the events are relatively simple and the weights for the novice division should be very manageable. I can even show you how to do some of the events before the contest if you decide to come out.

Hope this helps - feel free to ask any additional questions that you may have.
