I know consuming whey protein shakes supplements should be treated like that, a supplement to your regular diet. I am 175bls and try to get in 1g of protein per lbs of wieght. I work during the day and it can be hard to eat a meal every few hours. Currently I do take 2 shakes a day that contain about 30g of protien each. If I also decide to take another shake or a low carb protein bar, am I getting too much protein from supplements and not real food? Obviously I want to take in as much real food as possible, but sometimes its easier to munch on a protein bar at my desk.
Any ideas??

IMHO, it's better to eat SOMETHING than to skip a meal, esp if you are training.

I average 2 shakes a day as well, along with 3-5 other small meals of 'real' food. But if I am in a hurry and have a bar/shake for another meal as well, I don't sweat it.

if you have an office job (you said you have a desk) then you can try packing a lunch to bring with you from home. A couple pieces of fruit, some tuna and veggies in a tupperware container... these are all things that can also be munched easily at your desk.

As to whether it's unhealthy to get too many of your total daily calories from supplements/shakes, i don't know.

Yeah I guess I'll try and eat more food at my desk, like tuna or even cottage cheese as we have a fridge. And worse case scenario I grab a bar a few times a week.

just keep it balanced

tuna + cottage cheese are both excellent sources
