I need to stop starting fresh training logs....this will be the last one for a while! :)

I am 16 weeks out from the GPC Worlds in November and I have set some lofty goals for myself.

I am not going to talk shit about how I am going to do this or that. I am just going to put my head down and fucking GO!

I start back training this weekend after taking this week off following GPC Nationals last Saturday. I have new briefs and suit on the way which I cannot wait to get into. I have a bench only comp in mid September (7 weeks) and hopefully I can get settled into my new ace shirt in plenty of time.

No training until saturday so here is a stupid picture instead...

I like it for four reasons...

1. It's simple
2. Builds technique and teaches you to touch weights you thought were 'too light'
3. I like having all my numbers set out the whole way along.
4. It's simple

Def be interested with what Tone has to say on it too.

I have also purchased a valeo belt that tightens like a spud belt. Hopefully I can sling itlow which will allow me to get my belly up as far as I can. Using my big lever belt inhibits setup too much. Well see.

Hey don't tell anyone you have seen me, right :) Lmao.

Sounds good though the coan/philipi cycle is really tough going. Really need to have your numbers worked out if you want to make it to the end of the cycle. It gets very hard very fast. As I found out. :)

here is a good page on it:

http://www.powerpage.net/coanphildead.html

The whole westside thing......I dunno. I think it is best left to the folks training at westside. It is constantly evolving. I am not sure how many people can just pick it up and apply it effectively. I am a big fan of simplicity. Westside is far from simple IMHO.

Thanks Hayden. Yeah, I got about half way through a Coan DL cycle pulling sumo before coming to a rasping halt. I definitely got stronger with just 6 weeks of it but my starting weights were just too heavy. Rookie error.

Good! I value your advice in here. :)

Unfortunately, this shirt doesnt come alive with weight in this range and I really had to work with it and I actually had to wrestle a few reps back from dumping forward. I could feel them going. I had planned a couple more sets with the boards but my left arm was fried. No feeling in my hand and the pain in my arm was too much. Got to get the ball inflated in the left sleeve again. I will get there. Encouraging session with more good than bad.

Great work!! How much weight it take to get that shirt to come 'alive' as you say?

Cheers Hayden. The heaviest I have handled in this shirt is 528 to a 2 board. Thats when I really felt that the weight moved in the groove and it really shifted on the press. I expect to be handling much more than that over the next few weeks. Just need to get the shirt/sleeves stretched to the point where I can wear it for more than twenty minutes without being crippled.

Notes - Tonight was the first (shirt induced) pain free night in the shirt. No problems with the left arm. Big thanks to BrianC and Tone for a quality tip!

On the other hand, my left shoulder capsule, lat tie- in, triceps is completely chewed up. Taking the bar any lower than a 3 board was too painful hence the crappy raw warm ups. Fortunately we have collectively decided not to do the bench only in September. This is great as I will get time to heal up and we can all take take a nice long steady build up to worlds in November.

By the way, in this vid i wasnt THAT unstable. I think I just pressed fast and it nearly pulled me off the bench. I was lucky I held on to it. Once again, taking over 500lbs to get this shirt to even start coming alive.

I think thats where it counts the most. These legs are loose though they are much longer than the pro briefs, which by the way, feel like tracing paper in comparison. Other thing I noticed is that there is springyness in the jack stuff. My ace shirt and pro briefs dont seem to have the same 'stretch'..if you get what I mean?

Wait a minute....You're wearing the shirt WITHOUT a belt? WTF? The belt should be worn for every set in the shirt to keep the shirt from sliding and to learn to use it properly.

Secondly, I can tell even from this angle your shoulders aren't tucked as much as they need to be. This could be a huge cause of your shoulder issues. I need to see if I can get some video this coming bench day for you. I don't have a video camera but maybe even if I just use my phone to explain what I see and how you can fix it. Your shoulders are completely rotated outward though which is going to put alot of pressure on them.

After watching it a few times, I definately see what Tone is talking about. It seems that after you take the weight and start down, your shoulders flatten out and elbows are out rather than tucked. Tone hammered me with this too and really helped me. Hopefully we can get you some vid this week.

Wait a minute....You're wearing the shirt WITHOUT a belt? WTF? The belt should be worn for every set in the shirt to keep the shirt from sliding and to learn to use it properly.

I had been wearing a full 10cm lever belt at the very start with it and I just couldnt get going. I have since bought a spud style belt but up until now I have just used the thick velcro round the waist to hold it in place. But going by your reaction, I will now have the belt on for every set.

Thanks Tone. You think my shoulders rotating and becoming 'undone' could also be fixed by not lifting my head? I think I know exactly what you mean. The rest of the guys have noticed this too. Whatever you tell me needs done man, I will do it.

I see what you mean. My elbows seem to start tucking but then stop and from there I almost see-saw to touch and then start the press. Its pulling my whole setup out at my upper back and shoulders. The vid would be great. Prob much easier to explain. Thanks man.

The belt should absolutely be worn every set. It will hold the shirt in place and set it on the shoulders. It keeps it from riding up onto your throat while benching. The belt is just as important on the bench as it is on the squat.

The issues I was talking about with your shoulders deal with the top of the lift. When the bar is handed to you, where is it? If it's sitting any higher than your sternum you're not bringing it low enough and your shoulders are torqued in towards your body enough. That's what I see. When they hand it to you it looks like your elbows are very far away from your sides. There is no stability there.

As far as flattening out, you don't do too bad but you could be better. Watch your feet in this video. While your heels are down, you're not pressing on them. You're pressing on your toes. Pressing down on your heels will help to bring your arch up and help to maintain your position even if you lift the head. When you do "lift the head" you should be curling the chin in to your chest. Think of it as someone trying to rear naked choke you and you putting your chin down.

If you can fix the heel and shoulder issues you're going to be alot tighter and that 22lb PR will be broken in no time. You've got alot left in your bench, it's just the technical aspect is holding you back. Again, hopefully we can get you some video.

Yeah, my training partner actually said that after my last set! The shirt had ridden high up. The belt shall now be on. I was just worried about the belt jacking the shirt even more and I wouldnt be able to get near to touching. Time to take the stabilizers off as it were.

The issues I was talking about with your shoulders deal with the top of the lift. When the bar is handed to you, where is it? When they hand it to you it looks like your elbows are very far away from your sides. There is no stability there..

So I could do with taking the bar out much further forward. This sounds good. I think I could feel more confident and stable with it further out. I know it is not out far enough now that you mention it because I almost have to fight it from shooting backwards sometimes.

I will work on the heels. I thought i was getting down on them. I try to squeeze the hell out of my glutes too which helps me get the belly up too. I would try and not lift my head at all if I could. It definitely pulls my set up apart around the upper back. I will keep that analogy in my head though.

If you can fix the heel and shoulder issues you're going to be alot tighter and that 22lb PR will be broken in no time. You've got alot left in your bench, it's just the technical aspect is holding you back. Again, hopefully we can get you some video.

Sorry Nick, yeah, I think that would be about right. What height are you mate? You look pretty thick. I have long limbs and small joints so the legs are loose on me with the 44s. Also....I was taking my time down at the bar and it turns out this does not work for me at all. I noticed my hips shooting first. When I just grab and go I dip into my pull with my hips. It is almost as if my hips are still travelling downwards as the bar breaks the deck.

Notes - We took a while to get going tonight and i felt like a bucket of smashed crabs after pulling Tuesday night and benching Wednesday night. I stretched and rolled for an extra long time anyway and got going. Getting into the suit took a lot of effort. I really loved it though, I have to admit. I only worked up to 660 and the weight felt really light on my back. I got a vid of the last set although I didnt do the suit justice. In the first set, I came up like a piston but in the second set, my hips shifted sideways as I went to push out. Weird. The jack/jack combo is super thick. I had to let my lever belt out 2 screw holes which ended up a tad big but this was fine as I just wanted to get a few reps in with everything set loose. if I dont get a huge number out of this suit come November, I will eat my briefs. :)

Um, I only tried to get them on by myself in the house once. I didnt get them seated at all and then I couldnt get them off. Panic set in. hmmmm 528 huh? Guess I got to go 540 this week. hehe

Yessir. I had 550 in my head but it will have to keep :)

Brian, the way that 515 moved for you, 540 will be a breeze. You will be standing at the 600lb mark long before I am, brother.

Nice Benching!!

Going well Justin.

Tonight we were squatting with our new Okie squat bar which felt a hell of a lot better than the normal oly bar. STILL waiting on the mono though. Hopefully no longer than a week or two :(

This was the 2nd set of 638 I think....

One of my training partners was using his brand new leviathan tonight and he ended up having to be cut out of it. Brutal. He has a hybrid Overkill so he has experienced canvas but there were tears in his eyes tonight. Reminded me of something about mary. There was flesh and everything twisted up in a roll of the material. Not funny at the time.

Buuuuut.... I got a brand new suit out of it.....

Introducing the new 'LEJACKITHAN'. its a METAL/Inzer hybrid....these arent even out yet :)

Is the pipe trick when you get a pipe or a bar through the gap at the groin and then have it pushed down? Thats what we did also.

Super fast coming up bro. Your not too far on either. Jack gear seems legit for sure!
So as I wait for my canvas, now you got me nervous about the dam thing lol. I would kill someone if I had to cut it off! How the heck did he get flesh stuck in it?

Notes: This was a ''I am burning this fucking shirt as soon as I get home'' night.

Was feeling really beat up last night and have been for quite a while. Things like painting the house and digging vegetable plots this last week have messed my lower back up as well as training. Last three sets last night were laboured and awkward. Couldnt get things firing. Should have shut it down after the 528 but no. Made a half hearted attempt at 572 and threw it behind me.

This focking shirt has no room for even a tiny error. You either nail it and smoke the weight or else its going on your belly or against the racks. Its a heartbreaker. Well, for me at least.

Cheers BC. I am working to the chest next week and if I dont get a touch then it looks like I will be going back to the Katana for worlds and then look for a new shirt afterwards. I was thinking SDP but everyone says that it would need to be a triple which is illegal in this fed at the moment.

Its an Ace. Every review I have read of the Jack says it is much more forgiving than the Ace. I can well believe that. The margin for error in the Ace is so fucking small. I am just not skilled enough to use it. Thats the sad truth I think.

Ripped this off Mark Bell power. Hilarious!!

When I met Steve Jobs
by MarkBell on Oct.06, 2011, under Uncategorized

In honor of Steve Jobs I’m going to get a job so I can tell all of them to go f@ck themselves. No more conference calls, no sitting at a cubical, no more subtracting pay for how many pens and paper i snare from the office, no more interview, sales calls, no more reports, no more sexual harassment cases, no more worrying about being fired or getting a raise. I’m going to quit and follow my dream of never having a real job and being rich. Steve Jobs was a brilliant man but he did make one mistake he went to college. That’s even dumber then having a job!

I recall meeting Steve Jobs years ago at a Starbizzle. I was hammering down my protein powder, ice coffee combo and he noticed I was working on Iphone. He said how do you like your Iphone? I said well, I wish it was a lot bigger like the size a small laptop. Something I can travel around with real easy. He said that sound like a retarded idea why wouldn’t you just buy a lap top? I said because this thing is cooler, lighter, easier to use. He said what would you call this thing? I said I like Giphone as in like a Gigantic Phone or you could just call it the Smellpad and name it after me? Or how about Ipad! he said I hate the idea I got to go….then he went into the bathroom to blow it up and after that I never saw him again…..It was about a year later that the Smellpad, I mean Ipad was invented.

Metal gear is great for squat,/pull suits, but im not a fan of their bench shirts. You would need a triple in a sdp so that sucks. I would go with an overkill then. Rudy is the best when it comes to service for sure.

I like the metal shirts, I have a custom ace made in the cut of a viking which I liked (this shirt was easier to lock-out, harder off chest than the ace due to sleeve angle)

I found the standard ace pretty easy to use but it was not very tight.

Jack sounds damn cool!

I have to agree about the metal shirts Brian. Are overkills not notoriously hard to touch in too though? Meh, I have tried to convince myself that is me and not the shirt for now. LOL, easy to do three days after the benching debacle :) I have to disagree about OK gear service however. My training partner is still waiting on a squat suit 3 months after ordering and its his second order. He is not happy. There are a few other guys over here waiting over 6 weeks too. It seems to be either super quick or slow as shit. No inbetween with him. Its a bummer because the gear is outstanding by all accounts.

The jack shirt does sound great. The material is awesome. A balance of thickness and stretch rather than just being totally fucking rigid like the ace. I am convinced that ace material is just recycled car seatbelts. :)

No doubt...........If he ever gets them to you! See above mate. Really unfortunate.

Ha ha it took so fucking long its not funny to get my O/K suit!! 3 months I think.

The viking shirt is stiffer than the ace BUT the collar can be worn much higher on the viking so you can take the weight away from the strength of the collar easier.

Still no sign of my training partners OK suit. Far too close to comp to worry about it now.

Got the touch in my ace last night so feeling good again.

Great suit!!! With my experience using the suit, if you leave a 1-2 inch gap between the suit and your crotch, you'll get more pop out of the suit from the floor. But it's harder to crank the straps and get down into a good pulling position. If you pull it all the way up and crank the straps, it's still a little harder to get down, but it helps your lockout alot.

I'm sure others may experience the suit differently, this is what I've noticed the most when I was pulling in it. Good luck and enjoy, let me know if you try these out and what you think.

Cheers BC. The pull day was a stinker. Just had nothing. Got a King Pro Deadlifter yesterday. I have had it on. The Inzer Max DL is a POS. My METAL singlet is more supportive.

Brian thanks a lot for the input man. I had it on last night. I only got it to about 1" off the crotch because the legs are so tight. I can tell its going to give me good pop. If I can get down to the bar, lol. I will most likely use my suit slippers and get it seated in at the crotch as my lockout is my weak point. I will try both ways though just to see what its like. I appreciate the tips Brian. Thanks.

Great work touching bro!!!!! I know how much effort you have put in there and now look!

Another little trick (works for me) is to start with straps loose and tighten them 1/4" each set and see where you find that sweet spot of having them tight enough to get some pop but loose enough that you can reach bar with-out looking like a retarded hunch back about to die.

Thanks mate. It took me to going to the brink of failure and wanting to burn the shirt to get there. Matt Rhodes also gave me some solid advice along the lines of basically stop being a pussy. I stumbled upon a thread in which someone said Rhodes had gotten a PR using an Ace and he had long arms. Turns out there was no big secret. Just fucking hang with it until it gets there.

Thanks for the tips with the DL suit. Thats what I will do. Sounds like really sensible approach.

Just missed your bench post last night. Awesome job getting it to touch! You can see in the third set that when the shirt locks up, you really start to work your belly up to meet the bar, and thats the key. Good news that youll be able to go with the shirt this meet. Crunch time!

Huge squats with loose straps bro!!

I think I can see the problem, I had a conventional king pro.

The leg locks are where you feel the pressure right? That and the straps of course, it causes the knees to go over the bar and upper body to crunch in a bad position with no air in the gut to push out on belt?

The suit is trying to scissor your knees and shoulders together, you cant get to the bar unless you let knees travel forward?

You want the tightness in the hips, may want to loosen the legs and or tighten hips.

If this is not the issue I will think on what it could be.

Youre wasted dude. That is exactly what is happening. The legs are twice as hard as my squat suit to get on. So frikkin tight. I mean they actually cut my thighs. So you reckon I will need to stretch them some so as I can get them seated higher thus letting me get into a better starting position and actually get my air in?

Thanks Nick. Really appreciate that.

By the way, the straps are loose on my squat suit so that I can actually get down. This suit has 100's more lbs in it. Its just that I dont, yet. :)

My King had the same problems in the legs. Way too tight and cutting my thighs. I just cut a slit in both leg locks and problem solved. I may actually cut 2 inches off the legs (help for sumo).

Crap dude, your squat numbers are sky rocketing! 748...I may need to look into the pumpkin briefs/suit :) Mike Ski from our crew got a pair of briefs and love them, so I got some thinking to do. Not sure I could get them under a canvas though. They are thick as hell!
All your numbers are looking excellent. Some big meet PRs are coming for sure!

Stretching may not be enough but try it, perhaps cut a slit at the stitching so you can sew it up if you want but cutting an inch or two off may be needed.

Just make little adjustments till its right but to give you an idea my suit does not even have legs ha ha.

Before cutting it I have got the car jacks in :) Hopefully the stretching alone will do the job.

Funny story about the pumpkin briefs......I am actually going back to my METAL Pro briefs tonight. The jack/jack combo is just too much for me. It locks up so hard and I have nowhere to go. I am taking my opener tonight so I will see how this new combo works out.
The jack briefs are incredibly supportive. I will say that.
