View Full Version : Protein IMMEDIATELY after workout...good or bad?

On another board I read some guy saying that you should have protein about an hour after your workout and not immediately after because it slows down the muscle rebuilding process...is this true or is it some myth bullshit?

carbs after workout w. some protein.
emphasis on carbs.

The one hour thing sound like a myth.
Why an hour? Does your body work in hours ?

good protein meal 1-2 hrs later

^I don't take supplements...does it matter? If I ate protein 1-2 hours after a meal, wouldn't that screw up the segmented 6 meals a day schedule?

I usually time my workouts so the post workout meal(s) take place as scheduled.

Me too but having the protein 1-2 hours after workout would throw my schedule off.

So have it at a normal meal time then =)...Dunno of an extra hour of waiting would be detrimental.

eating a good meal post workout is more important than any artificial meal schedule you create

I think that's a Bill Phillips theory - something about burning more fat if you wait an hour before you eat after a workout - I'm guessing some muscle may be sacrificed too. But I have read that before too- pretty sure it was in Muscle Media as a fat burning tip.

did bill philiphs consider some people are trying to gian muscle, rather than cut?

though if still cutting eat just protien after working out, it still takes about 45 minutes to reach digestion.
