I'm determined to deadlift 500 lbs at less than 180 bw, shooting for 170. Generally when I deadlift, I only do sets of 1 and work up to my 1 rep max. That has been working well for a while but my progress has definitely gotten slower over the past six months. I pulled 375 the other day for my new 1 rep max. Should I start doing sets with higher reps? If so at about what weight? I checked out this little program http://www.elitefitness.com/forum/weight-training-weight-lifting/deadlift-program-help-742575.html would I benefit off that?

I have not tried it myself, but I've seen the Ed Coad deadlift cycle recommended many times. This site even has it planned out based on your current and desired max:

Depending on your current experience level it may take 2 10 week cycles to make the jump from 375-500.
