View Full Version : Barbell Rows at 56 Y.O. 405 x 6 and 500 x 2

After a thread on another forum about heavy barbell rows and a couple of discussions with April Mathis (unreal rower!) I decided to go back to doing these as heavy as possible like I did when my DL and squat were at it's heaviest a few years ago. No other real reason to post them here other than I'm really proud of where they still are at this point in life!

Here's the 405 x 6

Here's the 500 x 2

Also curious. Who feels that heavy barbell rows from the floor have a direct effect on how well you DL and/or squat?

I suppose it'd depend on how someone likes to do bent over rows. Mine look nothing like that. I tend to stay much more parallel to the ground.

Geeze Buddy, what happened to your plan to stay 242?

I'm not sure how it's setup. I'm not very knowledgable with all of the electronic stuff. I'll get Pam to see if she can tell why it's not letting everyone see it. Sorry!

Hey Gregg! I plan to come back down to either 242 or 275 for Masters Nationals in May. One reason I went on up this heavy is because all of my 1 ply stuff fits at around 280ish. I was already pretty heavy after Christmas when I decided to do this meet single ply so I just pushed the weight up to hit the ranking at 308 or 275 (where ever I weigh in). I'll order new single ply stuff soon to fit in the lighter classes and break it in later. Shortly after this meet I'll get back in my new multi-ply stuff for 242 or lighter 275 and finish breaking it on in. In all honesty though, I am always fighting a battle in my mind against the desire to be 'big'! I have a hard time seeing myself as 'big' when I'm under 270...even at just under 5'10". I really want to get over that and be content staying between 255-260 on a normal basis. Just a couple more weeks of 'force feeding' and I'll start easing down (normal eating).

I 'think' I've got it set so the video is 'public' now. Hope so!
