Shit that looks ugly.
How did this happen Chris? Itīs not that common to tear a triceps.
Fast healing for you.

JESUS that looks terrible.
At least it's a muscle thing and not a joint one.

What were you doing?

Ice Ice Ice! After 72 hrs switch ice and heat as much as you can. After MRI if it doesn't require surgery start getting deep tissue massages, ART treatments, and Graston treatments! Best wishes!

Big time bummer brother. Hopefully the MRI shows that it's not torn off the bone and you can begin rehab.

I've seen some bleed that bad and not need surgery, so keep your hopes up til you get the MRI. Definately ice! I'd avoid NSAIDS for pain at 1st. They'll make the bleed worse. Good luck with the MRI results!

Thanks everyone! Get the MRI tomorrow and hopefully results soon thereafter. I really hope I don't need surgery!

I tore it benching. I've had bad tendonitis for 3-4 months and my guess is the chronic inflammation weakened the tendon(s) making me susceptible to injury and there you have it.

Jeez how does that happen? Is it resulting from a form breakdown or the muscle unable to handle the weight you are attempting or?

It was bad tendonitis that I had for about 4-5 months which weakened the tendon thus making it susceptible to injury.

So, the orthos I saw today do not think it is a complete rupture (they still want to do surgery). I am going to consider it. I am leaning towards not getting it.

That sucks...but what do they say is the point of surgery if it's not completely torn?

Repair the tear to presumably improve the healing outcome.

If you aren't sure about surgery, wouldn't be a bad idea to get a 2nd opinion, just bring a copy of your MRI to save you time. If you got 2 smart docs really wanting surgery, they might be worth listening too.

Has Louie or any of your other training resources dealt with this type of injury without surgical repair?

Regardless, heal quickly.

2nd opinion seems a smart choice Chris.
All the luck with the recovery!

That makes me want to curse just looking at it. Godspeed, sir.

No surgery for the time being. I am going to see what I can do on my own. The tear is not complete and that is what finalized the decision for me.
