Its like a handheld device..you put in your height.weight and age and then you hold it out in front of you .. two hands.. like a steering wheel grip.. The instructor told me it shoots a volt up one arm and down the other to check your bodyfat.. I am 5.6 195.. age 31.. my bodyfat % came out at 25%.. I know that I am heavy and have a gut.. but 25%... I would like your opinions.thanks

5'6 195. 25% sounds right.

Sounds right? How would you have any clue if that sounds right unless you've looked at the man. Teeblair, those aren't very accurate.

I would think that its pretty accurate.. I hate to say it.. I definatly have a big frame for being 5.6 and I do get compliments on my size.. My shoulders.chest and arms... If its not 25..its pretty close to that number...

He said he was heavy and has a gut. Those things do suck. If your bf is 20 or 25 does it really matter? Just work on your goals man.

I found these 2 online BF calculators. I have never measured myself with a caliper.

How do these 2 compare to the actual results you had using the calipers?

http://www.atozfitness.com/AtoZ_Body_Fat_Percent.htm gave me 13%

http://www.zoneperfect.com/Site/content/Calculator_Men.asp gave me 15% .

use the mirror, if you are around 25%, there really is no need to worry. just figure your diet and take some pics. i was at about 25-30% when i first started to cut, and i just used the mirror and the scale as a guide. you dont want to drop too much to quick though.

although your local YMCA more than likely can do a caliper test for very small price.

It told me 12% on both of them. I'm 5'10" @ 147lbs.

I've been training for the past 3 months. I can see my abs pretty clearly. Sound about right?

I'd have to say they aren't very accurate, because they don't figure in a person's frame size. It's probably set up to figure that someone should have a 30" waist if they're completely cut, but it just don't work that way for everyone.

Plus that first one doesn't even figure in heighth.

The second does figure your frame by asking for the measurement of your wrist.

Its better than nothing.

If you use it to compare where you are at now and where you are in the future, other than the actual amount, it will show gain or loss of fat.

On those URL's BTW, I get 14% on the first one, 11% on the second, and my machine thingy said 14.8% this AM.

Took it (the hand held one) twice in a row with something like 19% then 26%. The scale version (tanika?) one showed 18% then 28% when I took it twice in a row. pretty accurate eh?

Those ht/wt analyzers don't do anything unless you are a 'typical' person. I assume you aren't since the 'typical' person considers walking to the mailbox to be exercise :D
