View Full Version : Eating after Cardio

I realize this is probably a stupid question but I'm confused about why it's necessary to eat after running, or other forms of cardio. If you're doing cardio to burn fat why would you want to replace the calories you just burned by eating again? I mean if a person ran all the time like 3 times a day and ate less than 1500 calories a day I think it's safe to assume they would be shedding fat at a constant rate. So the more food you eat, it seems like it would defeat the purpose of the cardio in the first place, and from my experience after I run I don't even feel like eating.

Your body needs fuel to run....without fuel it will wear out. I would reccomend to eat some high protein low/moderate fat foods after cardio.

I meant like an hour or so before running.

Throwing up doesn't matter one way or the other, if I run far enough my stomach is disturbed regardless of whether or not I've aten anything.

Well apparently the BEST time to do cardio to burn fat is right after you wake up in the morning, on an empty stomach.....

Your body is a car, if you burn fuel, you gotta give it fuel, otherwise it doesn't go. Now you implied that it makes the cardio worthless if you eat afterwards because you just put the calories back in that you burnt off. Well I think the general idea of cardio is to burn stored fat (even though all most all of what was burned is going to be the food in you). So when you do your cardio your empting all the calories you've been running on and hopefully some BF, then afterwards eat a healthy meal that will not make you gain BF, and you've replenished your energy. You get the general idea?

You want to start replacing muscle glycogen and get out of the catabolic state your body is in after doing the cardio.
Also Ritzol, you mentioned eating less than 1500 cals a day and combining this with cardio to lose fat. You will lose weight, yes, but more of it will be muscle than fat at that caloric intake.

Damn, I weigh 140 and I was at 1900-2000 cals for cutting. Sound like the guy who was eating 900 cals to cut the fat over his abs...don't kill yourself, take it slow.

900 cals? It's nice if you can see your abs to be able to walk as well.
