Massive day today with 1210 squat, 975 bench and 820 pull.

I was unfortunately unable to be there but I watched the majority of the meet via the live stream.

Really great accomplishment. He really stuck to this goal for a long time and dedicated himself to it.

I saw both attempts with 975 on bench and his two deadlifts on the live stream. He absolutely smoked both the 975 and the 820!! Congrats to him

Great fucking job!

Burley Hawk also totalled over 2,300 raw! Gee, I guess Westside works for raw...

Wow that is some seriously heavy ass weight being lifted!

That deadlift looked like a bloody speed pull for gods sake.....

Anybody see the shit storm on facebook regarding his squats? I haven't seen the video so I cannot comment but Chris Pappillion has a lot to say, lol.

I'm more impressed with this Burley Hawk.

Looks like he had more in him and his depth was solid!

Burley is one of the most impressive lifters ive ever seen. Just incredible.
Im sure Dave lost sleep over the internet judging too. Great job by him.

You need to see the Vid...then read the IPA rules...then you gonna understand why even people that never even get on forums are bashing the IPA. All of us know that the problem is not the lifters...is the judges that do not enforce the rules that are in black and white!

From the IPA rules:

3. The lifter must bend the knees and lower the body until the top of the thigh at the hip, NOT the hip joint, is lower than the top of the kneecap. Locking and unlocking the knees after demonstrating control of the weight is not defined as a descent. Knees must be locked at the start and completion of the lift. Only one descent per attempt is allowed.

Here is the video. Think it got 3 white lights.

BTW, I have no opinion beyond if it got three white lights it is a good lift.

Hoff did his job and lifted. He is clearly the all around strongest equipped lifter. Congrats to him.

08-18-2013, 06:58 PM
Also, I wonder what he could hit if he focused on bench only. Just crazy!

Please! Please! Please! I was there, and besides returning the elite pro end of the sport to its proper setting, this meet was one of the greatest displays of PLing ever...period. Every lifter was treated with respect and to fair standards. Rheta West' s WR squat was incredible. Burley Hawk ( in only his 2 nd meet ever) did as good if not better a demo of raw lifting than anyone ever has. Laura Phelps executed WR lifts to perfection and made em look ez. And Dave Hoff proved he is the new king, the best of all time. I was sitting with Louie when Hoff pulled the 820 to make 3005, and I guarantee he had more in the tank. The super classy Super D cheered for Dave the loudest when he joined the 3000 club. There was tons more butmy point is only this- This is what pro PL is supposed to be on all counts. Unless you have the integrity and guts to compete on the same platform or at least go to the meet in person, you just wont ever get why this meet represents a great day in the sport that was getting overrun with crybaby pretenders

And Vin my brotha, we gotta go to the next one together

Can somebody post a link to these vids??

Hoff's DL was quite impressive, threw up right after it. Looks like he had an 835-840 in him if he wasn't so exhausted.

I swear, half of all powerlifting videos have ACDC playing as the soundtrack.

08-20-2013, 09:48 PM
I appreciate all of this, but I have to call a spade a spade. Westside won't compete at XPC and there are a lot of guys who won't compete at the "Westside" meets. It would be nice to see everyone on the same platform, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

08-20-2013, 09:51 PM
I'd love to see more of Hawk's lifts.

08-21-2013, 04:50 PM
I don't want to be the typical armchair judge but I really feel like for his own integrity, Hoff should turn down that squat, especially after all the attention it has garnered. His bench and deadlift were both flawless, but there's really no words for the squat. Whoever the judges were should never be allowed to judge a meet again.

08-25-2013, 01:31 PM
Late to the party...I agree with Invain, 100%.

Hoff is more than capable to get 3005 squatting to depth (best >950 bench I've ever seen), he doesn't need any help from the judges.

I'm still waiting for the Patriots to give the Raiders back their "win" in the 2002 playoffs. Would have also been nice if the refs would have called the runner assistance rule when Reggie Bush pulled Matt Leinhart in the endzone against Notre Dame.

Great bench and dead. The squat on the other hand wasn't even in the ball park of depth.

I agree. It's sad for the sport of powerliftng that lifts like that get passed. In my opinion, it takes away from the integrity of the sport as a whole and is a reason nobody cares about the sport, particularly the equipped lifting portion, outside of its own competitors.
