How many of you train in the opposite technique that you compete in? So if you pull conventional in a meet, training sumo

I pull sumo and do about 75% of my deadlift exercises sumo/25% conventional.

I'm all or nothing. My pull form is always suspect so I need to focus on the one I will use at a meet. Right now that's sumo.

I never pull sumo because I simply no longer have the flexibility to do it properly. If I did, I think that switching up is a good thing, but I would not train "opposite" all of the time.

I rarely pull sumo. I focus 90% of my training on conventional pulls.

I use both stances in training a lot. Most of my lower body accessory work is deadlift variations.

Marcus how often and at what weights/percentages are you pulling sumo? If I remember correctly your a conv. puller right?

I do use conventional in meets. I use sumo variants most training sessions for 3x5. I don't max often on sumo stuff, so I'm not sure the percents. My guess would be in the 70-80% change. I just try to keep pushing the weights heavier. When I peak on a movement, then I drop back a little and build up again.

I usually train sumo when/if I'm training dl with a regular bar. I have a strongman coming up so I have to pull conventional. Damn, I'm having a difficult time finding my form. At least I get to wear straps. My biceps are so much happier this way.

I basically train my opposite DL techinque: SUMO, in the time from December to 15th February, where I start planning for the first meet of the year.

ALthough I am never really off season, I use that time of the year to swao around things a little.

I switched to sumo and have been doing all sumo pulls since. I did some conventional speed pulls the other day and your body sure forgets technique fast. Whatever stance i squat with will be my deadlift stance. I figure if my wide squat goes up so should my sumo deadlift.

I remember a few years ago Travis you suggested doing ME deadlifts with the opposite stance and if one does DE deadlifts to use your regular stance. Would you say this is how you would still recommend it?

Yep. I wouldn't do ALL of your ME deadlifts with the opposite form but you strength building ones should be done that way. 9 times out of 10 it makes your usual form much more strong.
