I recently started drinking a post drink of dextrose, water and a scoop of ice tea mix for flavor. It's SWEET!!!! (as in it tastes very sweet). I've found the 2 workouts I've taken it after I've been less sore than I thought I should be.

I can't think of anything you could mix together into a shake from the grocery store that won't make you puke. However, I think a decent alternative to the ideal dextrose/whey shake would be something like a glass of grape juice(high GI carbs) and cottage cheese and/or eggs(quality protein). When I don't have dextrose, I mix my whey protein with grape juice.

Where's natedogg at? Oh well, I'll say it for him... smarties! I took up his idea and I love it. Go to your everyday convienence store and pick some up, their loaded with dextrose. If you don't know what to look for go to www.smarties.com and see what they are

BTW, although I do use the idea, it was not mine originally. I got it from someone over on elite back when I frequented that site. Honestly, I do not remember who it was though :(

My post workout (bearing in mind I'm lifting at home - not at the gym yet!) consists of a protein shake, then a take a hot bath, relax for 10-20mins, then drink a couple glasses of water

hey thanks natedog and tryngtobebig, i think i will be buying those from now on, at first i thought you meant smarties the chocolate candies, things might be alittle different in canada, does the states have the chocolate smarties, you know with all the different colors? i havent been in the candy section for awhile but i hope they have those candies in canada.

i think these candies will have to do until i get some pure dextrose

Some drugstores/grocery stores sell glucose tablets. These are primarily for people with type 1 diabetes who need a quick rise in blood sugar, though some endurance athletes also use them to prevent bonking during competition.
Each tablet is usually about 5 g of glucose.

Right, the "smarties" in canada are chocolate. In the us the choclate things are called M&M's, the smarties that you want are tangy and sort of powdery things once you chew them.

In Canada, "smarties" are often called "hallowe'en candy", sometimes called "rockets".

You can learn a lot on this site. :D
