Basically, my goal right now is to hit a 500 DL.

Rack pulls are a dead duck after the third week of doing them; so I'm just trying to decide if I should include another "max-effort" move, the high box squats, or just go back to a hypertrophy-oriented approach of doing 6's twice a week.

02-10-2003, 03:25 PM
I would just squat heavy two weeks a month, followed by a week of less stress type assistance exercises and then max out on your dead. You could probably put 10lbs to your max each time easily with this method.

Two things I noticed with my last two deadlift PRs, which may not be indicative of anything:

1) I hadn't done a deadlift in at least a week or so.
2) It was after a night of added cardio such as hockey, which taxes the lower back. So I came in with a tired out back and deadlifted anyway, which resulted in PRs both times.

Not sure if either of those hold any meaning, but thought I'd add them here so you can do what you will with them.

I think you are wasting your time with rack pulls though. Might as well train the entire movement. You COULD have someone maybe help spot you through a sticking point if that's the problem, although, that might be gay as I've never seen anyone spot someone else on deads before. Or if you have then use chains and heavy bands, not sure how much you got into westside type crap, so that would be a way to keep the weight down for the beginning but make it harder on lockout.

02-10-2003, 03:30 PM
I agree about the rack pulls.....I was only intending to do them for a few weeks to get some heavier weights in my hand anyway.

As far as the PR's go-- I notice that as well. It seems easier to bust a squat PR if you've done deads (case in point), and vice versa.

It seems those two weeks of HST-style 10's did wonders for my dead all over, so I wanted to do an experiment with 6's twice a week to see if I could get a similar effect.

I think the plan now is to do 6's for two or three weeks, twice a week, then start throwing some high box squats in the rotation after that.

02-10-2003, 03:34 PM
I found good increases from following HST as well. It seems this program is better for what it isn't specifically targeted to rather than what it actually is targeted for. Although, many of the exercises I used where new to me, so rapid progression would be expected.

02-10-2003, 03:39 PM
Aye......I was completely amazed at how the low-intensity/high-frequency work paid off after just two weeks-- my grip shot through the ceiling, and I'm sure my max dead gained some weight also.

I'm not wanting to do 3x a week with 6's though-- that'd completely wear my ass out; so I'll stick to the 2x/week I'm doing and just go from there. I'm going to shoot for 3 weeks that way before re-evaluating.

02-10-2003, 03:45 PM
the only complaint I have about HST is that it lacks the FEELING of intensity that I associate with weight training

But it works.

02-10-2003, 03:48 PM
It will feel more intense as you get to the end of the 5s. Other than that it was pretty boring. But the frequency kept me pretty interested in training and kept things consistent, which in and of itself is probably the number one benefit of this program.

02-10-2003, 03:54 PM
Well, also remember that I'm not doing it orthodox.

If all goes as planned, it'll look like this:

Mon 2/17 - 365x6
Thurs 2/20 - 375x6

Mon 2/24 - 385x6
Thurs 2/27 - 375x6

Mon 3/3 - 385x6
Thurs 3/6 - 395x6

Though that last week could suffer a bit (due to Mardi Gras, not training  ), but we'll see.

02-10-2003, 04:12 PM
Power: Did you follow a HST cycle all the way through? Or did you just do a shortened cycle and then start the current stuff you are doing?

Knee wraps on a high box=gay.

No wraps on the box. tuttut

How do you do your deadlift reps? Do you hang onto the bar the whole time? Resetting each time makes it forty times harder, but when it comes to reps I just don't really see what would be better. The other day I finished with 4 reps @405 and after each rep I put it down, stood back up and then went back down and got the next one. Much harder than doing straight reps. What's your take on that?

Latty, when I say high box, I'm only talking 1-2" above parallel here-- so close that a gym-rat wouldn't know it. I do those as a maximal squat movement because it puts me right at the hole without dropping me all the way in; if I were to do them, I'd want to put on serious poundage, in the 360-400 range. No way I'm doing that w/o being wrapped up.

When I rep, I generally set it down, pause for a split sec resetting grip if needed, then pull.

I've actually been putting some thought into it, and my thinking is this: the first rep of a dead is so hard because there's no eccentric contraction. The successive lifts are easier because you've built up some energy to work with via the stretch-shortening cycle. Now as a powerlifter on a competition cycle, this is going to be of little use, since all you're after is that max pull. However, for off-season, or somebody like me that's just dicking around, it could be exploited.

It also fits, too-- the times I've made the most improvement on my deads are when I've done reps with them, or done squats instead. Training for singles at high intensities does about jack for my pull after about a week.

My idea here is that, if you're peaking for a max attempt, your best bet is to train with single and squats; but if you're just looking to bump it up in general, do 2-6 reps and exploit the stretch reflex to build up your speed on the successive reps.

I used to progress very well when doing deads for reps, but it was my deads for reps that progressed, not my 1RM. Like you said, not ideal for the powerlifter.

I remember reading in an article about box squats the reason for not needing wraps. When you perform a proper box squat, your shin should stay sraight up and down, if not it should actually bring your knees towards your heels. Something that isn't possible with free squats because you can't sit back as far.

"Safety is always important. In powerlifting as in all other sports, injuries occur. I suffered a complete rupture of the patella tendon in 1991. At that time my best squat was 821 at 242. Rehabbing myself, I gained full range of motion and came back to squat 900 in two meets at 52 years old. I have never used knee wraps in training. I have used bands and bar weight combined at the top to equal over a grand with the weight on the box around 800 with no knee problems at all. How? I sit back for enough on the box where there is no pressure on my patella tendons."

Just something to think about.

Powerman, I have only looked at this page, but tell, ohhhh please tell me, you have not gone to HST...;)

Anyway, about the deads, I find that really low rep works best for my 1RM. When I perform more than 1 rep on my heavy sets, I pause for a few seconds between reps. Basically like a set of singles. I find this to be much harder. I think I agree with your thoughts behind why no pause deads are easier, but don't forget the "equal and opposite reaction". When hundreds of pounds hit the floor with some speed, the floor generates an opposite force of that created by the crashing weights, thus making the subsequent reps much easier. Performing deads without a pause is akin to performing racks pulls. The resistance is effectively decreased for the first few inches of the movement.

02-10-2003, 08:24 PM
Yeah, exactly.

It'd be unloading the weight for a brief instant, enough to help with the initial impulse.

You guys have definitely given me some more info to consider; I think for the moment I'll play with the 6's, for the simple reason of wanting to use these last weeks of the bulk to their fullest. I think the 6's will do a better job of causing growth than the stuff I'd have to do to work on the 1RM directly.

I'll start focusing on that the first week of March.

Wow, you have really gained some weight! To what do you attribute it? In other words, you have tried adding weight in the past and seemed to have trouble. This is a good 10 lbs more than you have weighed since you have posted here, no? Are you just eating more? I'm glad to see you finally putting on some weight.

02-11-2003, 04:49 PM
Yah, basically its a matter of having the time to eat now, due to school and a lighter work schedule, and just forcing myself to be consistent with the eating. The 1000-calorie NLarge shakes twice a day haven't been hurting either. :D

I'm fully expecting to be 190 or higher by the time I start to lean out, which will be in about three weeks.

have you had to buy some new pants yet (of course of a larger waist size)?

02-11-2003, 06:25 PM
Honestly, not yet.....everything is *tight* and a few of my khakis are at the point of not fitting, but I have no problems wearing jeans or shorts.

02-12-2003, 05:44 PM
Just a little bump so I don't end up on page 4 by tomorrow.

Been kinda sleepy today, and I think I've bulked myself sick. I've had almost zero appetite today. It was all I could do to eat a pound of beef for lunch.

Oh, but I got my hair cut.

And I'm planning to take a fat-ass shot at the peak of the bulk, probably the weekend I go to New Orleans. I'd like to have some comparison shots for after the lean-out.

I suppose I'll put them up here.

02-12-2003, 05:46 PM

Congratulations on the haircut dude!!

02-12-2003, 06:00 PM
Oh I forgot!! Nice sig fat-ass!! ;)

02-12-2003, 06:00 PM
I agree. Especially since I have a test tomorrow in a class that I'm always late for.

02-12-2003, 06:23 PM
Yep. Catch some zzz's You may need to back down from you bulk for a day or two. That's what it sounds like to me. You're putting too much crap into your body. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, or rather...read. But someone had to say it.

02-12-2003, 06:31 PM
You mean gaining 20 lbs in 6 weeks has negative effects?

02-12-2003, 07:03 PM
Hope you have a big appetite because I have a 4-runner.

4runners give me the runs. I prefer explorers.

02-12-2003, 10:07 PM

When are you going to New Orleans?? A special occasion??

02-13-2003, 05:27 AM
Mardi Gras. General merriment and debauchery. Of course, Matt has to be there.

02-13-2003, 09:05 AM
Pretty much what Diana said. :D

I'll be going down on the 28th of this month, for the weekend.

That also coincides with the time I'd previously chosen to end the bulk and start leaning out; so I figure I'll take the shots before I get wrecked in New Orleans.

02-13-2003, 04:51 PM
So Groggg, gonna grow out the facial hair around that gotee too?

02-13-2003, 04:53 PM
Yes, I will. And it will be peppered with pieces of meat and small animals.

02-13-2003, 04:55 PM
Of course you'll have to replace the crowbar with a club.
But on a more positive note, you will no longer have to worry about splitting shorts.

02-13-2003, 05:21 PM
two words: lawn mower.

02-14-2003, 04:10 AM
Has your gym been very crowded lately? I hear advertisements for it all the time and was wondering if there were many new folks running around in there? New Orleans, huh? Sounds like a good time.

02-14-2003, 01:42 PM
gal: :swear:

brad: It was for like two weeks after New Years, but since I go at off-peak times anyway, it didn't matter. Its dropped back to normal levels now. And yes, NO will be in shambles after we leave. :D

Great news though....somebody is getting Hyyyyyooooogge ;)

02-16-2003, 09:36 PM
LOL yeah.....I went down for the 5th rep and I hear "rrrrriiiip"

I thought it was my boxers at first, cause I've ripped several pair that way, but it was the shorts. Fortunately the tear wasn't that big, so I finished the workout.

And who might that be, getting Hyyyyooooooggggeee?

02-16-2003, 10:08 PM
Speaking of which.....I've got a dilemma now.

This whole being-a-fatass thing has kinda got me hooked. I'm debating as to whether I should cut off in two weeks as I'd planned, or keep going (albeit slower) to 220 or so.

If I do keep going, I'm still going to add in the HIIT work (and maybe that glucophage/ALA thing I keep hearing about) to help manage the body fat, but I'll keep eating like a madman.

There went any shot of being ripped for the warm months :D

02-16-2003, 10:11 PM
can you um.. mail me those shorts??
just so i can patch them up of course

02-16-2003, 10:13 PM
I vote for hyoooooooge-er.

02-17-2003, 01:00 PM

Bulk it is. I ordered 6 lbs of Cytogainer last night to replace my ailing bucket of NLarge.

As for today:

OH Squat: bar x5, 95x3, 120x3, 140x3
-These are movin' on up like the Jeffersons.

SQUATS: 135x5, 205x3, 225x3, 275x2, 315x2, 355x1, 365x1, 315x4
-I wrapped my knees for the two heaviest sets (355 & 365). Did these the same way I have been for the past few weeks, with the close(r than normal) stance and going a few inches below parallel. I had a double with 365 easy.

Rack SLDL: 225x8, 315x6, 365x6, 405x6
-Did these out of the rack just to save energy for my grip. The bar was resting just below where I normally take these, so it was cool.

Weight was 186, which is good considering I haven't eaten a damn thing since Friday.

02-17-2003, 01:02 PM
Dang Matt, you are really putting on the weight now. Is this the most you have ever weighed?

02-17-2003, 01:06 PM
Yeah, by far-- I had gotten up to 175, 176 back in May, but that was mostly due to excessive beer and fast-food consumption. My bodyfat is actually lower now, 10 lbs heavier, than it was then.

I'm curious to see how 200+ will suit me :)

02-17-2003, 06:24 PM
powerman, can those "start off at the bottom" bench presses be done without a power rack somehow?

02-17-2003, 06:35 PM
The only ways I can think of are to get a couple of boxes to reach the desired height, or to find two *good* spotters. Since even one good spotter doesn't exist, I think the box idea would be most appropriate.

Power rack is the best way though.

02-17-2003, 06:38 PM
good work matt...

02-18-2003, 11:58 AM
I think I'm rediscovering my latent ninja-anger.

Not sure why but for about the last two weeks I've had the shortest fuse, and its about stupid stuff-- like dealing with every mother****ing asshole cocklicker on the Interstate every day.

I also find that I have little to no patience with people in face-to-face situations also.

Not sure what's up with that. I've been trying to let it fuel me in the gym, but that's the place it really seems to subside.

02-18-2003, 12:04 PM
200lbs by summer, yeah?

02-18-2003, 12:06 PM
The way I'm going, it'll be 200 lbs by March.........

02-18-2003, 04:24 PM
Rack Press: 135x5, 205x3, 225x3, 275x1
-Close-grip, bottom-up, at the sticking point

BP: 235x6
-Moderately hard set here; I might have had one more rep in me.

Pulldowns: 180x6, 220x4, 250x6

Tricep Giant Set:
-Skulls: 105x8
-Pushdowns: 75x8

Pushdowns: 25x20

Bicep Giant Set:
-Preacher Curl: 75x8
-BB Curl: 60x8

Db Curl: 60x2 (eccentric only)

Weighed 187. I threw in the Armz work because I ****ing felt like it. Now my arms are all bloated and ready to pop.

What can I do tomorrow when all my size and feeling strong goes away? Should I do more curlz and pushupz?

Noooo...not the clown pants and the do-rag! The gym fashion police are gonna get you.

02-19-2003, 05:18 PM
I ate the fashion police.

02-19-2003, 05:20 PM
This bulking business is getting a little out of hand boyo.

02-19-2003, 05:22 PM
I agree. Too bad I still want another 10-15 lbs.......

02-19-2003, 05:27 PM
hmmm...the Fashion Police was obviously too lean for you. Something with a higher calorie count is in order. Have you tried any couch potatoes yet? The fat content should help with your bulk.

02-19-2003, 06:18 PM
I dunno, I've eaten just about everything else.

Except a Frenchman. I think the BO stench would overwhelm me.

02-19-2003, 06:28 PM
Not to mention the vast quatities of cologne they wear :D

02-19-2003, 08:08 PM
All that rich foreign food isn't good for you, you know.

02-19-2003, 10:54 PM
That's messed up Matt.
How much has your BF percentage gone up since you started this bulk?

02-19-2003, 10:59 PM
Its gone up some, for sure.....but not nearly so much as I'd have expected here, to be sitting just under 190.

My face has only just now started to show it, and my arms and quads still have veins. My abdomen, on the other hand.......we don't have to talk about that.

All in all, its not that bad though.

02-19-2003, 11:04 PM
Cool! Did you take any pre-bulk photos to compare to once you've completed your cutting phase? The changes should be very noticeable since in sounds like you've had a pretty clean bulk.

02-20-2003, 12:22 AM
I wish I had, but to be honest, I didn't expect this weight gain to happen till it literally had crept up on me.

Clean.....well.....LOL I'm drinking a "high-calorie" shake right now, after finishing off a plate of pasta-- I'm also still hungry, and its 12:15 AM.

As far as body comp, I've been worse than this, but the added LBM seems to be offsetting the fat gains; so at least I look somewhat decent in clothes.

Now if I can just burn it off without losing the LBM, I'll be gold. And I've got plans for that, oh yesssssss............

02-20-2003, 03:14 AM
Oh noooo....does it involve cadio till you puke and 12 rep sets?

02-20-2003, 10:27 AM
Bah.....it involves the miracle of lactic acid.

The allergies.....I hate my allergies like I hate clowns. **** a clown.

What else can I bitch about......Oh yes. My knees are officially teh suck. Not sure what's making them act up specifically, but the right one is being a total man-whore, and not the good kind.

02-23-2003, 07:14 PM
What are you taking for your allergies?
I had back to back sinus infections for my 1st 2 years here. Talking about teh suck...Started using Nasal-Crom and Flonase every morning and haven't had one since last Aug.
Anyhoo, my recommendation is the above, Motrin or Naproxen & Deconomine.

02-23-2003, 07:24 PM
I never bother with drugs.....it usually hits me bad for a day or two, then tapers off, so I normally just plow through it till it subsides.

02-23-2003, 07:32 PM
The last time I tried that, I ended up with a fever of 102 and a 21 day course of mega-dose antibiotics. That's when I started with the daily Nasal-Crom/Flonase routine.
Good luck.

I've got a ninja-based immune system. No disease can /pwn me!

That's the first time I've ever been spammed by a short cartoon movie.

FYI-- a coin thrown off a high building wouldn't have enough energy to hurt someone because the acceleration of gravity isn't strong enough.

That was your science lesson for today.

Miss Rezza
02-24-2003, 06:14 PM
Wanna run an experiment to prove your hypothesis Mattyboy???

I'll be the one throwin' tha coin, while you wait at the bottom of the building!!

You're joking, right?

02-24-2003, 06:44 PM
the acceleration of gravity is about 9.81 m/s^2, i'd say somebody could get hurt from a coin thrown off a skyscraper

02-24-2003, 06:57 PM
I always thought the coin would hurt because of the velocity of speed with the drop of the coin. hmmmm maybe im wrong but i wouldnt want to be the test subject. And hey thats a cute kittie

02-24-2003, 07:13 PM
I agree with Powerman. The coin would eventually hit terminal velocity and the momentum likely wouldn't be enough to kill someone. I'm sure it would hurt, but it is not likely to kill you.

02-24-2003, 07:28 PM
I'd rather throw a burrito off of a skyscraper.

02-24-2003, 07:37 PM
I'd rather get hit by a burrito than a coin.

02-24-2003, 07:46 PM
yeah it'd hurt, but probably won't kill you. just think about getting hit by hail in bad weather, it falls from the sky pretty high but won't necessarily kill a person, even if it reaches a reasonable size.

02-24-2003, 09:32 PM
Yeah, well.....when you factor in wind (both resistance and lateral gusts), the coin won't reach the ground at any major velocity anyway. So nah! Oh yes, and burritos rock at any altitude or velocity.

Anyways, for todays session; that allergy flare-up took quite a bit out of me. I was down to 186 at the gym, and just generally felt crappy in the head. Still, I managed to do this:

OH Squat: bar x5, 95x3, 115x3, 145xFail
-Was NOT feeling these tonight. Without critical focus, these boys just don't work. The sets with 95 and 115 were shaky, and 145 just wasn't happening once I got it over my head. Oh well; try again next week.

DL: 135x6, 225x5, 315x3, 365x1, 405x1, 425x1
-These didn't fare much better, but I managed to wake up Mr. Furious long enough to get a 425, albeit slow as hell. I knew it wasn't going to be any record-breaking performance when the triple with 315 felt awkward and slow. Ah well; try again next week.

And that's about it. I feel somewhat better, and I think this brain-fog will be gone by tomorrow, so its cool.

02-24-2003, 11:25 PM
Oh, and before I forget.....I had the weirdest damn dream last night.

There was this bum that was harassing me on the street, so I told him to **** off like I always tell bums, but suddendly he had Al Sharpton hair, full pimp-gear c. 1970's (complete with rings), and grew like 6 inches.

Then he completely pimp-slapped me, and caught my punch when I tried to sock his ass. Then I woke up, with ring-prints on my cheek!

I got /pwned in my own dream, by some damn pimp!

02-25-2003, 04:04 PM
Rack Press: 135x8, 205x3, 225x2, 285x1
-Ow. 285 was slow as hell, and I almost didn't budge it from the bottom. Set at the 2" sticking point as usual.

BP: 225x8

Pulldowns: 180x6, 220x4, 260x6

Giant Set:
-Skulls: 110x8
-Pushdowns: 75x7
Pushdowns: 25x25

Giant Set:
-Preacher Curl: 70x10
-EZ Curl: 60x8
Db Negatives: 60x3

Weight was like 186 if I remember.

BTW, Cytogainer tastes good than a muuuuh-fukka.

02-25-2003, 04:16 PM
About the damn coin, watch the Urban Myth show on MTV. It has that very same thing in it. And the answer is, No, it will not kill a person.

02-25-2003, 04:25 PM
For god sakes if it bothers you all that much about a sodding coin write a thesis on it!!!

02-26-2003, 05:30 PM
Toying with my lean-up workouts:

Mon: Heavy Lower Body

Tues: Heavy Upper Body

Wed: Sprints (Duration)

Thurs: HIIT Lower Body

Fri: HIIT Upper Body

Sat: Off

Sun: Sprints (Intensive)

Diet's gonna revolve around heavy eating, esp carbs, from Sunday PM through Tuesday PM (like I'm doing now). The rest of the week is going to be a lower-carb (not keto) diet, based around well-thought meal combinations and timing.

None of this will likely involve any major calorie deficit if any at all, however.

We'll see how it goes.

Saturday Fever
02-26-2003, 06:16 PM
Sunday sprints will be in the AM, I assume?

02-26-2003, 06:21 PM
Yup, mainly because I have work during the afternoon, but it'll work out because I'll have a few hours to marinate before I start to carb up for Monday and Tuesday.

02-26-2003, 06:22 PM
Also, since I'm going cold-turkey off alcohol after this weekend, I shouldn't be worrying about hangovers and such, so its good.

Saturday Fever
02-26-2003, 06:40 PM
Quitting alcohol was one of the best thing I ever did. It doesn't take me 4 hours to wake up anymore and I don't need 12 bottles of water to get my body halfway regulated. Good luck with it.

02-26-2003, 06:42 PM
Oh I've only been nipping at it here and there since I "officially" quit back in August.....I've had some beer here and there since New Years, basically.

I do plan to get wasted out of the frame this weekend, being Mardi Gras and all, but after that I'm gonna quit even the weekend beers till I reach a weight and body comp I like.

02-27-2003, 09:49 PM
No workout today.....I've been feeling creepy-weepy strange. The posterior chain's a bit sore anyway, so I said **** it. I'll do some upper body tomorrow before the trip.

Oh, I also bought Master of Orion 3 today, so I'll be busy conquering all kinds of galaxies with my bad-ass starfleet that will reduce my enemies to rubble.

02-27-2003, 09:54 PM
Maybe if you quit playing computer games for 3 hours you'd get your butt in gear!:D

02-27-2003, 10:05 PM
Galaxies aren't going to conquer themselves.

02-27-2003, 11:30 PM
Sweet! You bought MOO3? How is it?

I have fond memories of the original Orion.

That, and my horde of 35,000 tiny starships, each armed with one beam weapon. That was fun to watch.

02-28-2003, 12:58 AM
It lives up to its two predecessors, in that it will make you stay up entirely past your bed time.

Its got some new features that I'm getting used to and deciding if I like or want to bitch about, but at the core, its still MOO.

It does seem to be a bit more realistic, in that I've yet to find a way to build up a fleet of 10K ships. You no longer scoff at seeing "only" 15 ships around an enemy's planet.

Also, there's a nice means of building up planets and specializing them for use that I'm quite fond of.

The only real complaint I have is that I can't blow up planets (yet) and that I haven't yet gotten the technology to make rabid interstellar conquest occur fast enough.

BTW-- when it gives you the option of a "Huge" galaxy, it means HUGE.

Damn....its been a week and I think I'm still legally insane.

I went to class like three times last week, and as for training, LOL

I think I caught some kinda bug or something, or my allergies are mad acting a donkey

Either way, I need to get my brain re-wired back to normal for tomorrow.

Gym's on whether I'm insane or not.

03-10-2003, 09:07 PM
Wow. A week of not eating and allergy-induced sickness didn't let me fare too well.

Squat: 135x8, 205x3, 225x3, 275x1, 315x1, 365xDamn
-Lost 365 a few inches out of the hole.

Good Mornings: bar x8, 135x8, 205x6, 225x6
-Got a better feel for these; not as bad as I remember them being.

Weighed in about 185 :(

I was moving pretty damn fast between the sets of squats, and didn't have my MP3 player on, which I think attributed to missing 365. 315 flew up like 225, so I think it was a combination of piss-poor diet and being sick last week (which I'm still not entirely over), along with inter-set fatigue.

I'm not terribly pissed off, all said.

03-11-2003, 09:34 PM
Well damn. Here goes day 2 of (suck-ass) post-recovery workouts:

BP: 135x8, 205x3, 225x2, 255x1, 275xAlmost, 185x14
-255 went up like nothing, so I figured I was good for 275. Well, I f*cked up when I lowered the bar, and it went back up, but stopped right at that damn sticking point. Fortunately I had the safety rails up in the rack so it didn't squash me.

Dips: +90x6, x4
-blah. BLAH!!

Db Flyes: 40x8, 50x6

Tricep Pushdowns: (reverse grip) 80x6, 70x8 (regular grip) 80x6

Weight was just a smidge under 186.

I need to eat more; I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of this is lack of creatine/glycogen/other ****ing substrates due to last week's debacle.

Now I'm off to try ULTRATURBONINJASHAKE!!!!!!11

03-12-2003, 01:06 PM
I just want to say that cookies ****ing r00l.

I got some peanut butter cookies with some old bitch on the front, and they are goodalicious.

Hang Cleans + Jerk: 95x3, 135x3, 155x2, 185x1

Power Cleans: 185x3, 205x3, 225x1

Shrugs: 225x8, 315x6, 385x6

HS OH: 45x8, 90x7, 80x7, 70x6
-Not true dropsets here, but very short rest periods, and took these bastiches to failure with a *slow* negative on the last rep.

Db Laterals: 20x10 (2)

Weight was back up to 187.

Good session all in all; first good one since I got back to it. Not sure where that 225 clean came from, but it wasn't that hard despite being ugly.....ugly like Chigs on Sunday morning. I almost tipped forward dropping under the bar, but I recovered it. I may actually be good for another 10-20 lbs here.

Oh, btw....who wants to see Mardi Gras pics????!?!!?!?

I've only got one roll of film scanned so far, since my friend has the other two-- and this is the only shot I can really post publicly off it--

Squats: 135x8, 205x3, 225x3, 275x2, 315x2, x5 (wrapped)
-All sets up to 275 were done ass on the floor.

GM: 135x8, 225x6, 245x6

Leg Press: 5Px12, 7Px10
-I switched to a different leg press that has a slightly lower angle than the 45 degree I'd been using.

Pros: It doesn't kill my knees.

Cons: I have to use about 20% more weight than I did to get the same effect. I hate moving 45's.

Calf Raises: 500x10 - 400x8 - 300x6 (drop set)
-Lactate is a bitch-queen from Hell.

Weight's still holding out around 186. Time to go back to Psycho-Eating (TM).

Boxers ripped: 1 pair :(

I also may have a new workout partner. A (female) friend of mine has been begging me to go lift with her the past few weeks, and she happened to be there the same time I was today.

She was using ugly words like "tone" but fear not....she'll meet Mr. Deadlift soon enough.

03-17-2003, 09:21 PM
PM, you gotta get that bitch doing front squats and then clean and press.

Anyways. How big are your calves? You seem to be moving lots of weight. My calves are pretty big, proportional to my body and all, I think they're either 16.5 or 17 inches, and all I do is romanian deads and the regular squats, push presses, cleans, etc. And not with a ****load of weight.
What other leg exercises do you do? I noticed you dont do much for the leg biceps.

BTW should I buy knee wraps? I was fine even squatting 315 (PR is 315x3, parallel which was hard as hell brimming with androgens). I suppose I'd have to take them off for my cleans, etc...what is the point at which I should start using them?

My calves are a bit bigger than my upper arms, and those are about 15.5 inches around-- I'd say they're no larger than 16, maybe 16.5. They're tiny.

I don't do any direct hamstring work because after heavy squats and the supplemental exercise, they don't *need* it. They're fried right now.

I like them. They add a nice little push out of the bottom, and as you can see that made a pretty big difference in the reps I could do.

I'd say if you're interested in bumping up your squat, by all means get a pair. I love them.

Knee wraps= ACE!!

03-18-2003, 09:31 PM
Sucky night.

BP: 135x8, 185x6, 205x4, 235x3
-Geh. Going to start doing these in the rack. Probably close-grip, bottom-up again.

Dips: +90x7, +115x5

Db Flyes: 30x6, 55x7

Skulls: 100x8, 115x6

Db Skulls: 35x16

Weight was a smidge over 188. Though I'm attributing that to the massive amount of food I've shoved down today.

I'm totally freaking pissed about that bench, btw. I should have had that for at least 5 reps. I haven't had a good pressing workout since I got back from NO.

HS OH: 45x8, 100x6.5, 90x6.5, 45x15

Did I mention that I hate everything? Because I do.

03-21-2003, 04:50 AM
Hang Clean & Jerk

Yeah um...I've been having problems..with my jerk. I cant seem to get the (snicker) grip right(giggle)...
Maybe if I had some kind of chalk(giggle)...or some special powerlifting lotion...

Anyways. Those are nice cleans you're doin, boy.

About that hate. What are you doing about your hate, friend? Unless you take an active role in your hate community, can you truly hate? You have got a lot to learn, dude.
All kinds of people hate. Whites, blacks, all kindsa Chinese. All have one thing in common.

Embrace it, friend, and thus the door and quarterpanels of ye olde automobile shall be emblazoned with the single-worded verse. Thus is borne the Hate mobile.

Spread the word, sinner!

03-21-2003, 11:16 AM
Dude, I'm so on the hate mobile! I'm still liking the idea of the 76 Caddy El Dorado (droptop), but I'm open to options as long as it has "hate" on the side, and we can scream profanity at people.

03-21-2003, 02:45 PM
Here are some good car ideas for the hate mobile.

'73 El Camino SS
'56 Chevy Bel Air Convirtable
'64 Impala SS Convertible
'77 Jeep CJ7-raised 16"

Could you imagine two old, ill kept Harley davidsons belching thick choking black smoke roaring 120db 1200cc engines, tearing peels out of the asphalt while dripping caustic black much oil all over the road, flying enormous white flags with the word HAET smeared into it with dark red paint.

Tis the life.

03-21-2003, 08:49 PM
That would be sweet. Though, now that you done went and brought up the El Camino SS, it seems there's a choice to make.

03-21-2003, 08:54 PM
What I did today:

Pullups: Matt x8, Matt+45 x6, Matt+90 x2 + 3 shrug-ups
-The sets with +90 were cheat as hell.

Pulldowns: 200x7, 250x4, x6

HS Hi Row: 135x8, 170x6, 200x5 (unilateral), 180x8 (unilateral)

Concentration Curl: 40x6, x8

Hammer Curl: 50x12

Weight was 189.5. I could sneeze and hit 190. BITCH!

03-21-2003, 09:09 PM

03-22-2003, 12:04 PM
190!, post another pic.

Weekend was decent, and things are looking up for me, at least in my own head. So that's a good thing.

03-24-2003, 06:57 AM
Here are some good car ideas for the hate mobile.

'73 El Camino SS
'56 Chevy Bel Air Convirtable
'64 Impala SS Convertible
'77 Jeep CJ7-raised 16"

Well the CJ7 is already to common around here, but the Impala or El Camino would be sweet.

03-24-2003, 06:59 AM
LOL.....our pic is up on beadwhore now.....we're on the right side, second pic up from the very bottom:

03-24-2003, 12:39 PM
You've got mail.

03-24-2003, 06:33 PM
Get on MSN, douche sackeroo.

03-24-2003, 06:35 PM
I'm at school, whore. I'm about to go lift then I'll be home.

03-24-2003, 06:39 PM
Oh ok. Shoot me an email or some ****. w0rd.

03-24-2003, 08:28 PM
Squats: (ATF) 135x6, 205x3, 225x5, 275x1
-Took these kinda easy tonight. I'd considered wrapping up and seeing what I could hit with 315 to the floor, but I decided against it.

SLDL: 225x6, 315x5, 405x6

Calf Raises: 520x17 - 400x7 - 300x7 dropset

Finally broke the 190 barrier....191 to be exact.

I didn't push the squats tonight, and I dropped the leg presses completely because I wasn't feeling 100%. I was dragging all day, really groggy and drowsy, and my legs weren't feeling totally recovered either. I'll knock 'em out next week.

the doc

You remind me of a frat boy

03-25-2003, 04:06 PM
Actually, I hate frat boys. In fact, I hAet them.

03-25-2003, 04:13 PM

Oh, I thought you ate them.

If you grind them up pretty fine, you don't notice the gristle.

03-25-2003, 04:31 PM
that is pretty funny. me, alex, anthony (evolu2art), and jonathan (escape01) all have shirts that say "I HATE FRAT BOYS" very large on them.

03-25-2003, 04:36 PM
i need one of those shirts...but do you have a medium, my 180lb ass would drown in your clothes.

03-25-2003, 04:50 PM
no mediums. but i am almost 100% positive that we are getting more made, because they have been such a hit around campus.

03-25-2003, 04:51 PM
hmm...seriously, i would be interested in one of those, keep me posted

03-25-2003, 04:59 PM
np. i will see if i can get a picture of it, if my roommate with the digital camera ever comes home. basically, it is a black heavyweight t-shirt, and says

the pink was chosen because frat boys are, of course, cocksuckers.

03-25-2003, 05:20 PM
LOL ace

We should start a gang.

03-25-2003, 05:21 PM
maybe the gang could be the enforcement arm of the cult of Ackshmee.

Ackshmee hates frat boys, too.

03-25-2003, 05:22 PM
Ah, a merger. Excellent idea.

Someone should call the ninjas too.

03-25-2003, 05:23 PM
It would be....unstoppable.

03-25-2003, 05:24 PM
we could have cheerleaders in black boyshorts and white lightweight cotton camisol tops.

03-25-2003, 05:24 PM

03-25-2003, 11:41 PM
A frat is a brotherhood
A gang is a brotherhood

a gang is a frat

03-26-2003, 12:05 AM
gay people have buttsex
fratboys are gay

John0101 is a bitch ass trick!

I want in.

03-26-2003, 09:11 AM

But no bitch ass tricks.

Unless they put out. In the good way.

03-26-2003, 11:23 AM
We are almost ready to take over the world.

03-26-2003, 02:02 PM

Anyways, did a chest/shoulder/tricep thingy:

Rack Press, close-grip: 135x6, 205x3, 225x3, 275xMiss like a Bitch

Speed BP: 135x3, 205x2, 135x5

OH Press, from chin-level: 95x5, 135x3, 155xMiss like a Bitch

Skulls: 100x8, 120x6

Weighed right at 190.

I attribute the Miss like a Bitch's to trying to use too much weight.

03-27-2003, 08:21 PM
I've got two words for you:

Cardio sukz

I did what was supposed to be a 20 minute HIIT session in just ten minutes, because I'm just that good/out of shape.

Note to self: When your aerobic endurance capacity is detrained by 6, 7 months, don't try to step headfirst into HIIT.

03-27-2003, 08:59 PM
Hey crapface, you suck!

Hey Powern, being Southern, I can only assume that a lot of people ahve some idea that all southerners are inherently racist. Is that true?
I mean, why you gotta 'keep darky down'? You should really stop it.

03-27-2003, 09:22 PM
I had typed up a clever reply, but then Clough broke the site so it got lost.

So now I'll just say, Screw you hippie!

HS Hi Row: 135x6, 205x5 (uni), 180x8 (uni)

Rear-Delt Flyes: 50x12, 80x8, 100x6

Conc. Curls: 40x8, 45x6

Hammer Curls: 55x12

Weighted at 191.5.

Both my shoulders are in serious need of cortizone shots.

you are an imbecile.

gang conjures up images of random violence, death, mayhem, slaughtering, raping, pillaging, destruction, gore, hate, and anger.

frat conjures up horrific images of gay sex, tossing salads, reach-arounds, teabagging, and f@ggots in general.

john0101 tosses salads.
john0101's mom tosses salads.

john0101 and his mom both toss salads.

He's probably a goat-blower too.

This is why gangs are rad.

And this is why frats are not.

Insightful analysis, Narc. As always.

03-28-2003, 10:35 PM
i thought it was very thought provoking.

03-31-2003, 02:51 PM
DL: 135x8, 225x6, 315x3, 405x1, 445xMiss
-Had 445 about 2" off the ground and it just stopped.

Leg Press: 5Px8, 8Px6, 8P+25 x6

Calves: 540x15 - 400x10 - 300x8

Leg Curl (single leg): 90x8, 140x7

Weighed a smidge under 192.

Those deads need some work; I think I lost 445 because of grip because 405 came up fast.

03-31-2003, 03:58 PM
I think that my arguement was a sound arguement. But of course with my defination of a "frat" and a "gang" could be very different from yours.
and of course their are expections to rules. The army is a brotherhood (yes i know many females serve in the army, but forget that for a minute), but are they homosexual? :(
a bloody thirsty gang?
But yet all three of these have very different missions and purposes. They do share many similiar qualities of being united. Sorry about the :spam: Powerman.

03-31-2003, 04:00 PM

03-31-2003, 06:53 PM

Y'all are teh silly.

No, that would be me.

Oh, wait, you said, "silly." I thought you said, "moron."

Carry on.

04-01-2003, 06:20 AM
Errrm yeah, just chimed in to say hello but your journal is in another language:eek: ;)

04-01-2003, 12:13 PM

April Fools.

Close-Grip Rack Press: 135x6, 205x3, 225x3, 255x2

Db Flyes: 35x6, 60x8

HS Incline: 90x6, 135x7, 115x8

Skulls: 95x6, 125x4, x3 (ugly form)

Pushdowns: 60x8, 75x15

Weighed 190.

04-02-2003, 12:48 AM

04-06-2003, 08:36 PM
Wow, what tha?

Somebody read my journal?

Damn.......I've been like insane-weird the past coupla days. Not sure why.

Let's see Ritz....I've got bounty hun....I mean collection agencies after me right now, and my bank account is at -$150.

Once I kill all the non-believers, a trip may be in order.

Right now.......the blood of sinners calls me and the Bushmaster!

04-06-2003, 08:45 PM

Matty... i've been insane-weird too! We can be it together.. if it makes you feel better.

04-06-2003, 08:46 PM

That folding stock is a liability. Get it replaced with solid walnut!

04-07-2003, 11:39 AM
That's actually not folding........all the post-ban assault weapons can't have them.

I can *get* one, but that baby's fixed.

04-07-2003, 12:39 PM
replace it anyway

with walnut

better for when you butt-stroke some victim!

(butt-stroke in the sense of hitting someone with the butt of a rifle, not in the ghey way that I know certain members read that phrase and then imagined. Sickos.)

04-07-2003, 12:49 PM
I dunno.....I just enjoy the rugged look of it.

I may get walnut on the .308 I plan to get at some point.

04-07-2003, 03:40 PM
Well, its about a month overdue, but its finally here.....

P-Daddy's Cutting!

No, you can't ask me how many calories I'm eating, or cutting out. Because I don't know. Nor do I care.

One of the nice things about my bulk was that I developed a structured back-bone of "clean" foods and meals; the 4-5000 calories came from portions and from adding "excess" foods to those meals.

Basically what I'm doing now is removing those excess foods, and leaving the clean diet in place. Carbs are going to be concentrated in the mornings and around the workout window.

I already hate it. But whatever.

Today's workout:

High Box Squats: 135x8, 225x5, 275x3, 315x2, 335x1, 365x1, 385x1
-Coupla inches above parallel. I probably had a 4-plater in me, but I didn't care to try it.

Bottom-up GM's: 135x8, 225x3, 315x1, 365x1
-Short ROM here, only about 6-8"

Interval Leg Press: 6Px6 (7)
-I was averaging 20-30 second rests between the sets.

Decline Crunches: x10, 25x6 (2)

Reverse Hypers: 90x8, 180x8

-20 minutes of moderate intervals on the bike.

Weighed 192.
