Indeed. **** a curl, says I.

I just sawed up a 10' 2x4, so I'm the proud new owner of 2, 3, and 5-board setups. This will be very useful in my upcoming bench training which will be a cheap, RAW ripoff of Metal Militia.

Damn. I had no speed off the floor tonight. I could feel it even at 315. Six reps is still technically a PR at that weight, but I'm still disappointed as hell. At least I think I know why it happened- I've been having some stress issues today and yesterday, didn't sleep worth a damn last night, ate rather poorly, and didn't follow the program like I knew I should have. Lessons learned, I guess.

Percieved rate of exertion.

I'd just like to add that that neurostim drink is no joke. I think it should be issued to American babies at birth.

Also, what is the scale there? You said a 4.5 is horrible...you either had an horrid workout or your standards are just extremely high.

PowerManDL
11-15-2003, 01:54 PM
The RPE is based around subjective difficulty, not how I actually performed.

An RPE of 1 would be going to the gym and using pink dumbells to tone. Five means I snapped a bar deadlifting and blacked out for 10 minutes afterwards.

So a 4.5 means it was rough as all hell, even if the performance wasn't there.

Its a way of gauging how things are working. If you have a sucky performance but still a high RPE, that's a warning bell to check out what you're doing.

So, yeah....no workouts this week so far. And the way things are going there may not be any for another week or two.

It's not just the holidays...don't want to go into any detail, but I've had a pretty big life-shakeup hit me this week, and not the good kind. I really haven't had any desire to eat, let alone train, and my future plans for the next few months have had a proverbial monkey wrench thrown in them.

It's gonna take me awhile to get re-centered, so just bear with me if you're one of the few that actually reads this thing.

I know it sucks, but don't let it stop you. The longer you stay away from the things you enjoy, the longer it's going to take to feel better. Use this as an opportunity to refocus, not only in the gym, but in all aspects of your life. It helps to have very specific goals during times like these.

Matt I've been going through some of the exact same things for the past couple months...so I know where you are. Just try to stay positive and don't let yourself get too down. Now I just need to learn how to take my own advice.

Alright I just started reading your journal and there are no recent workouts. Life is sh!t but the gym will always be there for you. So get back to working out and posting them!

So, yeah. I'm back to lifting. The last two weeks have been bad...went through a nasty breakup that was totally unexpected. I didn't eat more than about 400-500 calories a day, if that, and as you've seen there were no workouts.

However, despite losing 12 lbs :( my strength at least in the squat didn't really seem to drop much if any.

They were all moving pretty quickly, getting some nice bar whip at the top. However, I'm still going to be hurting tomorrow...I can feel it now.

And tomorrow's back to class.

Comments:

Was up three lbs from Monday, making my net loss 9 lbs so far. Strangely enough my pressing strength hadn't really dropped much if any...I was still fast on those board presses. The pullups are what dropped noticably, which is odd because they usually respond well to weight drops. The only thing I can think of is that I'd trained them from the neural side of things so much that the strength dropped off quickly when training stopped.

Yeah....when it's all said and done at the end of the day, the gym's all I have. Which is kinda sad, so I have alcohol too. Which, in retrospect, doesn't help any.

God I'm a loser.

How do you take your Turkey?

That's far more important than lifting.

Testing the bands out tonight....I'm going to have to work something out since I'm using the full squat and not a powerlifting-style since the tension from the bands is pretty much non-existant at the bottom, but it may not be an issue...I'll play around and see.

Otherwise, I've gained nearly all my lost weight back...yay beer!

Choke the bands around dumbells to get tension at the bottom.

Word.

No worries, I am still working out...but for a variety of reasons, I'm not going to be keeping the journal updated regularly till around March or April. Likewise, I'm probably not going to be around much on WBB, though if you're lucky you can probably catch me on IM.

I'll stop in on occasion with small updates and what not, but at least for awhile I'm cutting back on my Internet playtime. Yall know where to reach me.

Peace for now.

Try choking the bands around two dumbells instead of one, that should help.
