I found this formula to figure out a persons body fat. I was wondering if its somewhat accurate. I was hoping some people will try it and let me know their results.

YMCA Formulae
This one also comes from heston@simon.wustl.edu (Steve Heston).
For comparison, another simple formula (from a book titled something like _The YMCA Guide to Physical Fitness Assessement_) is
Men's %Fat = (-98.42 + 4.15*waist - .082*weight)/weight,

Women's %Fat = (-76.76 + 4.15*waist - .082*weight)/weight.

For our "model woman" who weighs 132 pounds with a 29" waist,

%Fat = (-76.76 + 120.35 - 10.824)/132 = 24.823

I find it hard to believe that using your waist/weight measurements will give you any idea of what your body fat is. I know that there are tons of those formulas out there.

I guess if you are using this as a guide, than it will be fine, as for being "somewhat accurate" my guess is that it varies from person to person.

Oh....you can always use other member's stats that they have in their signatures and place that in the above formula and compare it to what they have as their BF%.

I did check one other members stats vs. the formula and the formula came out 3 pts. higher than he says. It would be interesting to see how other members stats come out. How does yours come out Eric is it close at all?

I worked it out yesterday and it gave me 14%, I havent had my BF tested in a while so I am not sure what it is by any other method.

OK this is what I found. First off I apologize if i have dug into anyone privacy by posting these stats.

I dug up the stats of four members that had there stats posted recently on this site:

Acc = posted numbers = 175lbs, 11% BF, 31.25" waist
Acc = BF% from above formula = 9.7%

LAM = posted numbers = 230lbs, 8.5% BF, 34.5" waist
LAM = BF% from above formula = 11.3% BF

MS = posted numbers = 205lbs, ??% BF, 34.5" waist
MS = BF% from above formula = 13.6% < check out his pics for his actual BF%

B&I = posted numbers = 212lbs, 17% BF, 37.25" waist
B&I = BF% from above formula = 18.2%

By reading B&I's journal you can see how meticulous he is with everything, I may dig deeper in his journal to pick out previous stat entries and see how they turn out.
