I see alot of folks posting they eat like 6-10 egg whites at various times throughout the day.

Two part question:

Are you opening all those eggs to get the whites?
How are you preparing them.....scrambled or what?

I eat very few egg whites (I just eat 3 scrambled eggs...whole egg... every morning), so I just wondered how all you folks are preparing these to eat.

When I eat egg whites, it is usually out of a carton and I scramble them (well, as much scrambling as you can do with just the white) in a pan with a little olive oil. I sometimes add a few whole eggs too.

It takes much time. I prefer getting my protein from other sources.
I usually consume 1-2 whole egg(s) per day.

All this egg talk gets me wondering. You guys think 5 whole eggs a day is too much?

Yes it is.

at the beginning of the week i will buy 24 eggs and hard boil them.

When they are done i will remove the yolk and put the whites into a plastic bowl. I store them in the refrigerator and eat them all the time.

I also make tons of tuna fish sandwiches. I will put 2 cans of tuna, 2 tbsp of lowfat mayo, and 3 whole egg whites. Man that tastes good.

I will usually have egg whites with protein drink for snacks sometimes.

I fry my egg whites and get them from egg white cartons.

I just boil up a couple of dozen and throw them in the fridge. I have found that after they have gotten cold in the fridge the yolks will come out easily. I usually cook them up to two days in advance.

lots of good supplement stores sell tubs of pasturized frozen egg whites for 20 bucks. they're safer than regular egg whites.

other wise, you take the yolk out, theres many good techniques to doing so.

safer?!?

Are real egg whites not safe?

They are perfectly safe when cooked. Eating them raw can lead to samonilla.

w/o the yolks i think they're about 80cals and 7g protein each. i do what EVO does....i'll pre make tuna/egg sandwiches and store 'em the fridge for the week. ech sandwich(including the bread) is 45g protein, 360 cals, 35g carbs,3g total fat(fat free mayo)!! it's a great tasting sand. post workout.

50% of the protein in eggs is in the yolk. 1 extra large egg has about 7.25 grams of protein. so each egg white would contain about 3.5 grams...

Which part of the eggs make my ass smell like tear gas?

in that case your better off buying egg beaters there 6g of protein and 1g of carb and 30 calories per egg.. you get 8 eggs in a carton and i get 4 cartons = 32 eggs for 3 bucks and i just pour um out :-)

I use to do the egg white thing, it takes to much time now. I just make sure I have a blended protein mix now, throw a scoop of that in with some skim milk, done, problem solved. :D

i just boil a dozen eggs, then i just eat them through out the day (9 egg whites and 3 whole eggs). Doesn't take too much time.

I use real eggs and buy them in trays of 24 from at the farmer's market for about $2 per tray...much cheaper than the cartons of whites or Egg Beaters.

For scrambled eggs I usually use 3-4 white plus one whole egg. If I hard boil them, I give the yolks to my dogs (they come running to the kitchen when they hear me peeling an egg).

I'm telling ya's the cheapest way to go is egg white cartons. Its a pure carton of uncooked egg white.

Where do you buy them from Avatar?

grocery stores have them here where I live in Canada. I don't see why they wouldn't be in the States either.

Not sure if this should be in the supps forum, but since its closely related...

What about the albumen protein shakes you can get?
For example, ISS have an 'Albumen Power' protein shake, that has the equivalent of 6 egg whites per serving... thats pretty darn good, and I think would be good to mix with a whey as a post-workout shake.

What do you guys reckon?

I wasnt aware the white only has 50% of the total protein of an egg but.
