zma is supposed to maintain testosterone levels and IGF-1 levels, improving strength as well as recovery. this supplement has substantial and mostly positive scientific evidence to support it. its considered cheap. bottom line zma is good!

hmb increases lean body mass and prevents muscle breakdown, expensive in general but effective, another thumbs up

ZMA is overpriced. If you want to supplement with zinc and magnesium, you're better off just buying them on their own. While the makers of ZMA would have you believe it contains much more bioavailable forms of zinc and magnesium(along with B-6 to further increase absorption), this is not really even an issue if you're taking 25mg of zinc/400mg magnesium(which are the amounts you'll usually find this in) For $10 you can get a 3-4 month supply vs. the $40-50 you'd spend on ZMA for that amount of time.

Most people will tell you HMB is worthless, and in most instances they are correct. If you're using a traditional routine where you go to failure at every session it's probably not going to do a whole hell of a lot, unless you are just starting to lift. It IS useful if you're using something like HST(Hypertrophy-specific training) but probably only cost-effective during the negative-only portion. In general, though, I'd skip it.

I wouldn't pay for either of those supplements. I have taken just zinc before, but I can't say it did anything for me.

As far as supplements go....I've basically decided protein and MRP's are all I need. I can't say any of the others do one thing for me....but drain my wallet.
