I basically want to know if a protein shake before bed (on a workout day) is a good idea or not? Will it help your muscles repair better or faster?

Yesterday I worked out from 4:00 to 5:15 pm. Took creatine right after my workout. Ate chicken, pasta, and vegetables around 6:15 and then drank a protein shake around 9:30, right before I went to bed. Does this sound like a good post workout routine? If not, what should I change?

Thanks.

I would find a different source of carbs than pasta if I were you. I know pasta tastes great, but try some whole grain rice instead. I mix mine with salsa to spice it up.

Protein before bed is good on workout days AND off days. Remember, your muscles are repairing themselves on your days off too, so get some nutrients in before you go to bed. Invest in some BCAAs too if you have the cash flow.

Wow! Your the first person i have known on any bodybuilding forum (out of 3!) that actually recommends BCAA's.

How many should he take?

Should he take them before bed? When is the best time?

What benefits are BCAA's to the bodybuilder that protein doesn't offer?

I heard that they were hard to digest. Is this true?

Sorry for the q's...Thanks in anticipation.:)

Hmmm... i know that amino acids make up protein by the way.
But why take them as opposed to a protein shake or in conjuction to a protein shake (or whatever he eats before bed).

Thanks again guys (in anticipation of course):).

Never heard a bodybuilder recommend BCAA's? Seriously?

Branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) include leucine, isoleucine, and valine. BCAAs are essential to the human body. They are needed for the maintenance of muscle tissue and appear to preserve muscle glycogen stores, helping prevent muscle protein breakdown during exercise.

Recommended daily dosage will be explained on the side of the bottle. Usual dosage is about 3x daily, 4-6 grams per serving.
