The more I think about it, I think I am going to follow the 5 day split for the Max-OT, and do cardio on weekends. I feel that I will be able to keep my intensity higher and have much better session keeping it to one body part per day.

What's everyones opinions on meal-replacement shakes. I was thinking about taking one a couple times a day on the bulk, for convenience. Any recommendations on brand, etc?

I like the MRPs when bulking. When I was bulking (oh so long ago in a Galaxy far far away) I took them twice a day. I can't remember the brand but I'd recommend them.

Sounds like it was a great birthday celebration bro! Trap bar from your Mom? hell that's awesome!! MRPs I am pretty biased on those I been trying to get 2-1/2 to 3 every day and I have to say I've tried a bunch of them but prefer Champion Nutrition's Ultramet....I'll PM ya' the best place I've found if you're interested (but I warn you I buy them by the 60 pack) (best value per buck).

I've heard ectx and carolinagirl rave about ultramet's MRP's. AtLarge also has a MRP that Belial says is pretty good.

Isaac Wilkins
10-03-2003, 09:28 AM
I'd personally switch the SLDL's and calf raises, simply by order of energy expenditure.

Otherwise, that's the kind of workout I like! 4-6 reps, baby. ;)

I have some of At Large's MRP on the way, too. I'll let you know what I think.

The At Large brand is supposed to be tasty, especially the vanilla.

I'm waiting to get my protein matrix from them... plus it's like support for the board and stuff...

Comments on your routine:
I tried doing back and deads on the same day and found they both suffered...maybe have a back/tris day and a shoulders/traps day? Just an idea.

JustinF
10-03-2003, 12:33 PM
Homey- Thanks for the info. I think I'll end up buying both brands and going by flavor.

Borris- Good idea on the order of those. They will definately be switched. What flavor did ya order?

Cal- I'm gonna buy some AtLarge as well as Ultramet and go by taste. As far as the deads, I do them on back day now with no problems, so I'll keep that the same. I'll keep your suggestion in mind should it cause problems with the heavy lifting.

I just checked a few tracking numbers. My calipers arrived at the house, as well as dextrose and Trioplex bars for Heather.

I am going to post my pics tonight, as well as the updated measurements, and since I have the calipers now, I'll put that measurement as well. Unfortunately I didn't have the calipers before my cut, so I have nothing to compare to there....

Waist (at belly button) 42.5"
Waist (at belt line) 41"
Bicep- 17.75"

Well, here goes nothing.....

This cut was right around two months.
Before After

6'5" / 6'5"
290lbs / 275lbs
Neck-17.5" / 17.75"
Chest-50" / 49.75"
Waist (belly button)-42.5 / 39.5"
Waist (belt line)- 41" / 39"

Thigh- 28" / 27.625"
Calf- 18.25" / 18.125"
Bodyfat-unknown / ~16%

Not too sure I took the measurments correct for bodyfat.....

You've done a nice job leaning up bro. I don't think your chest is bad. You've got some nice definition going on there. Your legs look thick and your arms of course. As for the back I would say it's looking really thick, maybe a little more width would help but you're definitely lookin solid. Great work man!

On an off topic, this weekend I am not going to worry about what I eat. We are celebrating my b-day at my parents house toight, so I'll be having cake I'm sure. I had a MAJOR cheat meal last night. 6 pcs of Domono's Exstraveganza pizaa, AND 10 Buffulo wings. Yes, I do feel like **** this morning, but last night it was oh-so-good! :drooloing:

progress has definitely been made. All around, you can see the muscles showing through better... you have lots of muscle mass and to be honest I think you could have pushed harder and sacrificed some muscle mass to drop more BF rapidly, but to basically cut out 15lbs of fat while apparently retaining all of your lean mass is no mean feat!!!

I'm starting another cut in 3 weeks, with the aim to lean up for my trip to Oz. Wanna join me? :)

Wikked- Yes, that is a BIOTCH. Like I said, sometimes I wish I was still cutting. Did I just say that?

Wifey- Back atcha babe. :hump:

p-man- Thanks a lot bro. I appreciate the comments.

Callahan- Much apprecited bro. You're right about the fact that I coulda dropped more lbs, but I didn't want to lose ANY of the LBM that I had, and I think I accomplished that. As temting as your cutting offer sounds, I'm gonna have to decline. :p

Well, tonight is my first session of Max-OT, I'm looking forward to it. I figure I'm going to do a strict, CLEAN bulk to ~300lb and see how I look. I will continue to do cardio one or two times per week.

It doesn't matter how big the bed is.

The missus will still steal the covers, the sheet, and your pillow, and manage to poke her cold toes into your nice warm calves in the middle of the night, waking you up not just because they're cold but also because her toenails rake several ounces of flesh from your body. Tell me I'm wrong. :)

Not having your feet poke out at the end of the bed will be nice though.

The curls are looking impressive.

You might want to add a set of adjustable dumbbells to your home gym. This would allow you to slowly increment the db curls, as well as many other exercises. Newyorkbarbells.com sells dumbbell handles that are 14", 16", and 18" (http://www.newyorkbarbell.com/bars&handles2.html). The 18" threaded bar can hold at least 14 10lb plates. If you only have Olympic plates, then Olympic handles are another option.

I have a set of 14" and 18" dumbbell handles for my home gym with a variety of plates ranging from 1.25lb to 25lb. The 1.25lb plates were a great investment since they permit 2.5lb increments.

Wikked- Yeah, I was quite dissapointed with my numbers as well....hopefully they come up quickly. About the truck...I traded her in, sold all my aftermarket equipment. I picked up a new Ram 1500 Quad yesterday. I'll post a couple pics tonight.

Mik-I find these a lot tougher than preachers, I don't know why.. Hopefully my numbers shoot up quickly.

HY- I hear ya bro. I think I will no longer do the straight bar. EZ bar and dumbells is all for me.

Cocoa- Thanks bro for the support.

Well, I had a busy weekend. Friday and Saturday were spent returning my truck back to stock height and taking out all the aftermarket parts. It went smooth except while I was working on the lower control arm on the passenger side (we had it up on the lift), and I stood up a little too fast and split the top of my head on the inner fender.

Anyways, I traded it in for my new truck, an '04 Ram. I love it. I'll put up a few pics tonight.

I need to get back on track with training and diet. Both have been **** for the past week. I will be back at it 120% this week.

That's all for now.

Wow, another busy day at work. May be working on Saturday. :(

Thoughts about the truck: I LOVE IT. So far averaging 21.7 MPG, not too bad for a big truck I guess.

Workout hurt today. That's what I get for not working legs in about two weeks. tuttut I am very sore already, and the ec's are starting to creep up alreday.

I felt good when I woke up this morning. I am going to try to get to bed by 9PM from now on, so I can get 7hrs of sleep.

That is all. Take care y'all.

Justin great work outs as usual. Your diet's pretty much on too. Are you planning on competing in the future? You've got the dedication. How's your brother doing?

JustinF
10-20-2003, 06:57 AM
Xand- Thanks for checking in bro. I appreciate the words of encouragement. I have never given much thought to competing, I don't think it's my thing. I'd never rule it out though, we'll see what the future holds. For right now I'm just concentrating on doing this for strength and size because I plan to go out for football again next year. My bro seems to have been slacking here lately. For the past 2 weeks he has only come once or twice out of his scheduled three days. I talked to him this weekend, he said he's just been busy and he'll be back on track this week. I hope he's right.

Weekend was fabulous. Too short, but fabulous. I didn't have to work Saturday as I originally thought, so that was good. I helped my friend James move some stuff for one of his co-workers on Saturday morning, and Heather came along for the ride. Made a some quick and easy money, cash, so it was alll good. Spent Saturday night watching a movie with Heather.

Sunday was all about relaxation, for me. Heather had two presentations and a 10 page paper to do. I soooo do not miss school. Slept in, watched football, then went over to my parents house for dinner.

So all in all, relaxing, just kinda chill weekend.

That's the last time I switch up my days. Todays session hurt, it feels like I worked very hard, but all my weights were down. My body is beat. This is the first week that I haven't missed a day yet on the Max-OT program, and I am BEAT. Every inch of me hurts, I'm sooo looking forward to Back&Traps tonight. I love this worn down feeling I have, honestly. But every time I set foot in my basement to start lifting, the feeling leaves and I just get pumped!!...until I'm done. :D

Woke up this morning to SNOW. Yup, not sticking, but it's snow. Dammit, it's only October, I guess they are already prediciting a bad one....great.

Well, that's it. Catch up with y'all Bro's and ladies a little later today.

Have a fantastic day.

No session last night, just have a mini rant. ****ing Massachusetts drivers. On my way home last night from work, in the left lane of a two lane highway. There's an accident up ahead, so these genious Massholes slam the brakes because they see police lights. 65-0 in 2 seconds. I'm at a safe distance from the car in front of me, I stop with plenty of time. Lady behind me in a Grand Cherokee doesn't. BAM Guy behind her doesn't. BAM Two cars behind him don't. BAM BAM ****ing Christ. I've had my truck for less than 2 weeks. 357 ****ing miles! Ah well, no one was hurt, and there is almost no damage to my vehicle. Just the plastic piece on top of the chrome bumper got pulled up.

OK, I'm done that's my rant. TGIF.

Sucks to always have to drive defensively all the time. I do around here cause people don't realize that I'm driving something the size of a semi on back roads. They think you can do anything. Assholes all of them.:swear:

OK, first off, today was bi's and abs. Not gonna bother posting it cuz it sucked. Diet was ok until I got home and ate about three ****ing pounds of Halloween candy. I'm such a ****ing low self control asshole. Anyway......

I feel like **** about myself. I have come to the conclusion that I am not **mentally** ready for a bulk. I feel fat, I really want to cut to about 9-10%BF before a bulk. I think. I fear that I would look skinny though, I don't know.

I need some serious help here. I will be purchasing the UD2 diet tonight and I am going to read up on that. The results that I have seen with those currently on the program are encouraging. I guess I'm just looking for everyones thoughts/opinions on this.

I'm just not happy with where I am now, even if I got bigger and maintained my current BF I think I'd be unhappy, so I definately need a cut to start. What is a reasonable length of time for the cut?

I'm gonna stop rambling now and go but the UD2 if I can find the link. Looking forward to y'alls input.

It could vary from weeks to months. Some people cut until they reach a certain body fat percentage, weight, or apperance-related goal; some cut for a certain length of time, such a X weeks or until Thanksgiving; some cut until results slow.

Good to see some workouts again bro. I was reading your fitday and it says you are 260lbs. I've also seen your picks but I imagine you look MUCH larger in person. I say this cause one of my best friends is 220lbs and he looks huge in person, he's a BIG guy and everyone notices it and he's got way more bf% than you.

Anyways I think if you cut you will even look BIGGER, just cause you will be more defined. You already got the insane mass going for you bro, I really think the cut will make you look bigger. I'd just take it slow. Goodluck man.

Edit- I'm not sure how big you are now, but If you are anywhere over 220lbs+ I'd say cut. I just say this cause my friend is 220lbs and he has more bf than you and he looks really big in person. Even if you went down to say 200lb solid, you would look HUGE lol.

I have the same problem. My diet can be spot on no problem but if you bring home a pizaa... I'll eat the whole thing. Gallon of ice cream? Gone. Giant bag of candy? Give me 10 minutes alone. Anyways, I find it easiest if Im just not around it. Out of sight, out of mind

Length of time can vary. How long can you cut? I go to the point of insanity or until my results slow to the point where its not worth me cutting anymore (losing too much LBM).

Hey Justin
If you've been reading my journal, you know UD2 gets a thumbs up from me. And if you are around 260, I don't think you have to worry about being "skinny" if you cut more. Good luck with whatever you do.

10-30-2003, 07:58 AM
Set your mind to it and do it whether it's bulk or cut dude.......personally being this close to the holidays and all the food stuff a cut is going to be pure hell on you if you can't stay away from all the great foods that come along with the holidays.
Good luck in either choice bro.

aka- Thanks much for the link. I used it last night and bought the book, well worth the 20bucks for the info alone.

Dediacted- Thanks for checking in bro. That fitday is a bit outdated, I am at about 280lbs right now, maybe a bit more, haven't weighed myself in a while. I'd have to disagree with your figures though. I think I'd be anorexic at 200lbs. I was looking at some pictures of when I was a freshman in highschool at 220lbs, and I was skinny. Of course I didn't have near the muscle mass I have now either, but that's beside the point. I'm not gonna shoot for a specific weight, I'm gonna go till I'm happy with my body.

Jr.Mint- Thanks for the input. That's my problem exactly. That's why we never have anything good in the house. Out of sight out of mind. ****ing Halloween!! :D

cp- LOL, yeah bro, it was a typo. should be +20, I know not near as impressive! :(

Cocoa- I have no restraint!

fuzz- Yeah, I've been following your journal. The results speak for themselves. I'm gonna give it a shot.

Wikked- I have made up my mind bro, thanks for the words.

OK, mind made up. Not this coming Monday, but the one after that I will officially start UD2. I read the book last night/today and I am very enthusiastic about starting it. Seeing the results from the few of you that have been doing it is what really sold me. I don't think I should have stopped my cut last time just because the contest was over, but that's OK, it brought me to my decision today.

Along with the results that I am expecting, I am looking forward to the different workouts upcoming. I have been lifting heavy weights for as long as I can remember now, with really heavy weights here as of late, and I think it has really taken a toll on my mental health with stagnating weights, etc. I think this will be good on my joints as well, and I do still have some heavy work mixed in with this routine so I'll continue to grow, or at least maintain.. Anyways, a decision has been made and I'm going to stick with it. Looking forward to the new journey.

I think I may be taking the next week off from training al-together to get a fresh start. I'm not 100% sure on that yet.

I'm in a much better frame of mind than I was yesterday, I guess all the work, etc caught up to me. I'm back to my old self now!! :D:D

hey bro' havent been in your journal in a bit, time flies sometimes...

sorry to hear about the truck, sounds like more emotional damage than actual bodywork damage to the truck, trucks are nice that way, they can take a hit.

good luck with the cut, if you tackle cutting the way you did bulking I KNOW your gonna be happy with it and get GREAT results. Plus cutting usually makes you look bigger as well, which is cool.

fuzz- Thanks man. I'm looking forward to it. Will do on the maintenance cals next week.

Tank- Good to see ya in here again. You're comments are always welcome. I'm actually looking forward to a week off. I haven't taken any more than a day off in as long as I can remember, except for vacation...

Well, here was my diet yesterday. I missed 3 meals so it was bad.

FITDAY (http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/PublicJournals.html?Owner=JustinF&Year=2003&Month=9&Day=30)

I can honestly say that I think UD2 is going to be hell. I figure my maintenance cals are ~3400. So for 4 days a week I'll be eating 1700 cals a day. That's 700 less than I ate yesterday, and that was missing three meals. It'll be hell, but I'm so looking forward to the change in routine and results. :D

So now I just need to work on what I'm going to be eating. I find it much easier to do things like this if I have it planned well in advance, and eat the same thing everyday, so that is what I will be doing.

I have also decided that I am going to take the week off from lifting. So for the start of this UD2, I will basically be starting fresh with everything. I may go downstairs to do a bit of cardio and mess around with the weights just to find the correct weight I should be using for the 15 rep depletion days.

JustinF
10-31-2003, 03:40 AM
Here's what I came up with for my cutting diet for the four days out of the week. Any suggestions, etc are much welcomed.

Meal1: 6 large boiled eggs, .5 cup cottage cheese

Meal2: 1 can tuna, drained, 1 slice ww bread, .5 cup cottage cheese

Meal3: 2 cups salad greens, 2 large chicken breasts, 2 tbsp Fat Free ranch

That puts me at just over 1700 calories which is just about right.

Here's the fitday link with the macro brekdowns:

How much do you weigh?

Well it's been a rather hectic/crazy week so far. Work has been pretty busy. Obviously I haven't been working out, and I feel like **** for it. I have been eating at maintenance all week, and will continue to until Monday.

Personal life:

Some family issues kicking around right now that have me confused, sad, angry, etc. All at once. I don't know that it will straighten itself out either..... So I'm a bit emotionally unstable about it all.

And with the lows come the highs:

Heather and I purchased a condo this past weekend. It is a new construction, still not finished yt. We just got word today that our mortgage financing was approved, so we are ready to move on with it. My guess is we will be moving in late December. It is only about 10 minutes from where we live now, but at least we won't be throwing away money on rent any longer, we'll be building some equity for ourselves. It is a 2 bedroom with a basement and 1 car garage. I'm pretty excited.

That's about all for now. I'm pretty excited about starting UD2 on Monday. I really need to hit the weights just to take out some of this frustration/anger/sadness built up in me. Things happen for reason, and there better be a God damned good reaon why this is happening to my family.. Only time will tell. Anyway, I'm out. I'll holla at y'all in the AM.

I am glad to hear about your home purchase. In addition to building equity, annual payments would likely to be lower for comparable residences since interest payments are tax deductable, and interest rates are at low levels.

Just dropin' in. Congrats on the condo dude! It's a nice feeling living in a place that is actually your own. Hope all goes well with your family. If the stress starts getting too high, I've got a spare set of gloves laying around. You can come pound on me for a while :p . I need the practice anyways.

MY FITDAY (http://www.fitday.com/WebFit/DayFoodsTab.asp)

Thoughts

Why am I doing this again? Oh yeah, cuz I'm fat. First of all, my diet was off. I had to improvise on my diet cuz my bank it full of morons. So I was pretty off on total calorie intake.

I felt weak the entire session. I was suppose to do two cycles of the session, but could only muster one and some hald-assed cardio. I got light headed quite a few times, at one point I really thought I would pass out, but I didn't. I never got the feeling that I had to puke, so I guess that was good.

I woke up this morning to the sound of my stomach SCREAMING. Jesus, you'd think I hadn't eaten in a week. I am not looking forward to tonights session. I need food!! That is all. :help:

Wikked- Thanks for your support bro. I don't think the issues are going to work out, but such is life. No puking yet!!

Cocoa- Thanks for your constant support bro. It's much appreciated as you know. As far as the posting, I'm not taking another week off, just been really busy and pre-occupied. I'll try to get on here tomorrow at work to catch up in everyone's journals.

aka- My thought exactly! ;)

Bruteman- Thanks for dropping by. I may take ya up on that offer.

rook- Thanks a lot bro!!

I am sore and tired. I had no energy for cardio tonight. I can say with certainty that I am sooo looking forward to no session tomorrow. I will be doing cardio though.

I need food. This is killing me. I am going to be starting an EC stack next week, hopefully this will help a bit with my energy levels.

I need my refeed. That is all.

Wikked- Thanks bro. I'll pass on the green tea. No need to induce the inevitable.

fuzz- Thanks. Yeah, the weights are close to failure, but not all the way to failure. I still need to figure out exactly where I should be, like the squats need to go up, etc. I think by next week I'll be exactly where I should be.

Dedicated- I'm looking forward to the results. I know it's going to work. The book is worth the $20 bucks for the info alone, even if you're not going to do it right away.

Homey- I'm going to do the initial 6 week session, then gauge how I feel about myself. If I'm still not happy, I will eat at maintenance cals for a week of 2, then do another cycle. Not sure if I will still do UD2 on a bulk though...

rookie- Thanks bro. I am looking forward to eating, most definately.

Wikked- Thanks dood! Much appreciated.

Cal- It did. I was just to embarrased to tell anyone. :D

Mik- Thanks. I sure hope you're right. I'm feeling pretty good today actually.

CL8- Thanks bro.

Well, I've had this lump on my back for a couple of weeks now. I was waiting to see if it would go away, but it is still there. Heather at first thought it was in ingrown hair but t hasn't gone away. It doesn't hurt to touch it, but when squeezed it hurts quite a bit. I think I'm gonna call a doctor and get it checked out. I just pray all those days in the sun without sunscreen hasn't caught up with me.:(

Anyways, I'm full. I'm only into my second meal today, and I'm full. This isn't gonna be as much fun as I thought. Ah well, I am happy to be eating again, if only for a day or 2. :D

Mik

Nice session Justin! I may have missed this before but how do you do calf raises at home?
Mmmm Cap'n Crunch. That's been a staple for me on UD2.

I had a similar lump on my trap awhile ago. I kept putting off getting it checked out of fear. It turned out to just be a cyst (sp?) which is quite common. Had it removed with no problems. Good luck.
