Not meaning to bring you down, dude, but that's probably due to the depletion (you haven't started the carb load yet, right?). I've found that my weight drops 4-5 lbs between tuesday morning (when I start depleting) and friday morning (last day of depletion). I take what I call the "official" weight and measurements after the carb up, either on monday or tuesday morning.

The decrease in measurements is a good sign for sure. Keep it up, man!

[Edgar- You know it bro. As we speak I'm sucking down my PWO shake. Double the dextrose. :D

Have I mentioned that I hate that sh!@t? All that dextrose makes me wanna puke. But it's part of the deal, so I drink it anyway.

JustinF
03-04-2004, 05:06 PM
Edgar- Yeah, I dop realize that. That is why I took my measurments before the refeed, to see what the actual depletion accoplished. I was planning to post what I got for the same measurments come Monday night. I agree about the detrose. makes the shake unbearably sweet, but it's a fast easy souce of carbs.

What's the layout of your training and diet? I see you did depletion workout 2 on day 4..... Are you following UD2 'by the book'?

Thanks bro. Yes, I am following it 'by the book'. I actually did the second depletion on day two, this is the final depletion, I believe in the book it is reffered to as the 'tension' workout. It also states that this is designed to deplete the last bit of muscle glycogen that may be hanging around, so I call it 'Final Depletion'. :D How's things going with you?

Thoughts-
Easier than last week, although I wouldn't say easy. Still couldn't manage at 5 sets fully on the bench press. Diet was good, spot on.

It amazes me how much weight fluctuates on this program. There was one thing that didn't change throughout, my bodyfat measurement. Last thursday, before I started my refeed, I weighed 290lbs. Sunday night I weighed 300lbs even, I took my body fat pinches, and they were the same as Thursday night, yielding 16.25%. This afternoon I was back down to 293, with the same bodyfat. Weird, but I'm happy. I took my EC closer to the session this week, I think that definately helped me through it.

So far I am very pleased with my results, for being only 1 week into it.

I'll catch up with y'alls journals in the morning. As you can see by my sleep, I need to get more of it, so I'm off to bed now. Take care y'all.

Gonna be a busy one today, I'll catch up with y'alls journals later.

I stepped on the scale last night, 300lbs. I'm gonna take my BF measurements tonight, but I feel leaner, and I think I look leaner. I'm gonna start being a bit stricter on the refeed/carb load day, as well as weekends. I kinda go overboard. So far it hasn't hurt me, but I know it will if I keep it up.

Went to see The Passion of the Christ last night. Wow. I thought it was well done. Many people left the theatre in tears.......

Anyway, have a good one y'all. Catch up with ya later.

Well, I got a few things kicking around right now. I have a Firefighters test that I am going to be taking on April 24th. I have no doubts that I will pass this with flying colors, but unfortunately things probably won't pan out in that field. Why? Because I'm a white male, unfortunately.

***RANT***About 2 years ago, I took the civil service exam to become a State Trooper, and I scored a 98%. Being a white man, I get no minority points, no points for being a female, etc...so over two years later, I'm still waiting for a phone call. I was going to take Criminal Justice in college, but what's the point if I won't be using it. So now I'm sure it'll be the same situation with the Firefighter civil service exam. It sucks that this is really the kind of work I want to do but I really have no "in's". I hope this doesn't come off as racist/sexists, but I think the time and place is gone for AA. It's almost to the point where it is reverse these days.***RANT***

Anyway, so with that the case, I am looking into other avenues to get my education. I have a few fields I am interested in, I'm going to start school next semester so I need to decide. Any thoughts/comments anyone may have to offer, I'm all ears.

-Pharmaceuticals
-Exercise Physiology
-Something in the medical field (radiologist, nursing. etc0 NOT something I need 8 years of school for

I have enough credits I think to get my Associates in Liberal Arts, but I really don't want that. I am in management right now, and have quite a few years experience in this field, but I don't think I'd be happy with a BA-Management Degree

About the workouts, I have been working out, just not a lot of posting lately. I'm changing things up, going to the split that I had while doing my cutting contest with Pete, except I'll focus more on cardio this time. I just can't get motivated to workout doing full body workouts, and if I'm not enjoying myself I really don't see much of a point.

Anyways, I got a steak and a grill calling my name, so I'm off to eat. Take care y'all.

Good Luck on the job search. Pharmaceuticals, is pretty much just a sales job so if you don't liks sales, stay away.

You might want to look into getting your degree from a hospital program. They pay your way and you have an instant job after grad. Medical Imaging, Surgical Technology, Professional Nursing and Ultra Sound all have strong outlooks in the next 20 years (especially ultrasound). Just do a search of the biggest hospital systems in your area and see if they have a school attached. If you don't find anything, drop me a line and I'll give some of my Harvard buddies a call and see what they know. Good Luck.

Well, it was a good weekend. Not very productive, but ya need one of those every now and again.

Not sure if I mentioned this before, but on May 2nd, I am going to be doing a 20 mile walk in Boston for Project Bread. I'm looking forward to it actually. I got started this weekend with a 5 mile trek. I even ran a half mile at the end! My knees didn't like that though, I'll stick with walking. ;) So far I've raised ~150 bucks. I'll be walking with Heather and my mom.

I'll get a session posted tonight, I promise! :p

Have a good day y'all.

Oh, forgot to mention...pharmaceuticals is out for two reasons:
1.) I'm not into sales jobs, and
2.) It takes 6 years of school, and that's going full time, PLUS, nobody offers it during the evening, which is when I need to go.

In the process of researching some other stuff, I'll post more when I know.

http://www.gifs.cc/red1ac.gifFeels great to lift heavy. I decided to go back to the program I was using with my cutting contest with Pete. I had good results, and I enjoyed it. I will however be concentrating on doing EVERY scheduled cardio session, especially now that I have this 20 mile benefit walk coming up. The UD2 definately does work, however I did not enjoy the sessions at all. I don't like full body programs, I now know that. And IMO, if you are not enjoying yor sessions, what's the point? :)

I had great energy during my session tonight. I will be doing a four day split with cardio on off days:
Day 1- Chest
Day 2- Legs
Day 3- Back
Day 4- Arms and Shoulders

My vascularity was insane tonight. I had veins popping out of my forearms, shoulders, and even a faint one in my right bicep!! :D

Anyways, I know y'all will be suprised to see that I actually have a session in here, I don't blame ya. I'll catch up with your journals manana. Take care.

Can you join a volunteer fire rescue team in your area? This could give you the 'in' you're looking for.

Believe it or not, I've been seriously considering kicking the whole corporate thing and becoming a firefighter myself. A lot about the job appeals to me.

I am going to call to schedule an appointment with an advisor at the college. I will be going back for Nursing, I have finally made up my mind. I learned a lot about it yesterday, there were quite a few things I did not know.

There are still a few things up in the air. After a few classes into the Associates degree, I can apply for my LPN, after the Associates is achieved, I can apply for my RN. I will be pursing the Bachelors degree, probably through Drexel University. Here's my dilemma. I am unsure if I should go directly into the field as an LPN, gain experience while pursuing my degree, or finish until my Bachelors then join the workforce. My thoughts are to get my Associates while staying at my current job, after I have that, enter the field as an RN, and have my new employer pay to send my to finish my Bachelors.

This is planning VERY far ahead, but I do plan to get my Masters as well, with the Nursing Anesthetist Concentration.

Just thought I'd throw that out.

Depending on your financial need, the government offers grants, that typically are more than enough money to pay for everything up to a Bachelors Degree. The financial aid office at your college can explain how to apply, it's very painless and most of it can be done online.

Coincidently my girlfriend is going to school to pursue her nursing degree as well. She considered getting the LPN but instead is on some 2 year program to get her RN at a local college, then continue on for the Bachelors of Science in Nursing, or BSN, at one of our State Universities. Hope that helps. Goodluck with whatever you decide to do.

Something odd hapened, on Saturday morning I woke up and my knee was swollen, for no reason. It's even bigger today. I'll be calling for a referal to an orthopedist at 9AM today. Back from the Doc. Got a needle stuck in my knee to drain the fluid, so right now I am awaiting lab results. He gave me some VIOXX for the swelling, since Motrin was doing nothing.

It was a huge relief og pressure having it drained, unfortunately it has already filled back up, and it is stiff again. I have an appointment with the Ortho on April 23rd. That's teh earliest I could get in, WTF?? Doc said if I experience any more than usual discomfort, or after the lab results come in and he thinks it's necessary to move it up, he'll do that. I'm also suppose to be getting an MRI done on both knees.

Anyway, off to go do my chest session. Holla at y'all in a bit.

Hey, how much were those oly DB handles + collars? I haven't decided, but if I wanted a pair, would you be able to get em for me and bring it with you? I guess if you ordered online I could order it and just have it shipped to your place, or you could get em and I could pay you back. I'm semi consdering building a limited gym at my place at least so I can do some work at home.

Anyway, lemme know, if it's a hassle just say so. Or if you are lazy just say so.

They are $34.95 a piece, and shipping to my place is $26.00. I guess I could bring them in with me, but I wasn't planning on driving in, I was gonna take the train. Do you know where you are staying yet, if I could park in the Hotel parking lot I would consider driving in.

Ok, I am cool with that if you could order them for me. I just emailed our whole dist. list to get the name/link/address or whatever of the hotel. It's booked so I'll let you know. Let me know if this is a problem for you or not.

If you want to come to the baseball game that would be fine too. We already don't have enough tickets, so we'll be pulling a scalper into an alley and beating his tickets out of him, one more wouldn't be a prob. ;)

I got a bit overzealous with my first set of the Flat Bench (275) , took too much out of me to early, the rest of the session suffered.

Sent in my application last week for college, if all goes well, I should be starting classes next month.

Had a half-assed back session last night. Can't do Deads, BB or DB Rows, so it was seated cable curls, pulldowns. wooooo.

Called about lab results and got voice mail, still waiting for a call back. Basically as of now, I can't bend my knee more than about 45 degrees, and direct pressure hurts, even on soft surfaces such as my bed. :evillaugh

That's about it for now.

Knee is still hurting. The swelling had gone down a bit, but it is still pretty painful.

I ate FAR too much last night at mom's, but I can't help it when I'm there.

I'll get some sessions posted tonight from home. Until further notice the split will be M,W,F no legs or cardio.

I attempted some light cardio, as my knee was feeling pretty good yesterday. Bad idea. Diet was on point until dinner, but I have it tuned in now.

It seems that once I am strict and consistent with the diet, the sessions fall into place as well. We shall see.

10 days until I see the specialist. I really can't wait to find out WTF is up with me knee....I spoke with a few people that I know that have undergone knee surgery...they said recovery wasn't too bad. That givews me a bit of hope, should I end up needing surgery....

Hate ta hear about the knee thing. Mine did the same thing about 2 weeks ago. Swollen couldn't walk, couldn't bend it and couldn't even get comfortable enough to sleep. I made a Dr's appointment and the day before it got better. I think alot of mine is the extra 20-25lbs I've put on. That was part of my problem when I first started. Good luck and speedy recovery.

http://www.gifs.cc/red1ac.gifHad the day off of work today, but as my life goes......Was rudely awakened to my smoke detectors going off. Only like 3 cycles, then shut off....wait 10 minutes, repeat. Needless to say, the initial alarm was enough to wake me up completely, I tried to get back to sleep with no luck. On the positive, I found out that my big ass still moves pretty quick when it has to!! :p

It turned out that the smoke detector in the garage is either faulty or it got a bug or dust in it. And obviously they all go off if one is triggered...just took me a while to figure out which one it was.

That's it...back to work tomorrow, so I'm gonna get some shuteye now. Catch up with y'alls journals in the AM.

http://www.gifs.cc/red1ac.gifIt was 80 degrees out today, so I HAD to get outside. I started to run but decided that wasn't too good for my knee (plus I was winded after a half mile :p) Ended up walking 5. All in all a good day. :)

Well, to my suprise, my knee feels great today. No soreness or swelling. I have my appointment with the specialist today at 2:00. Hopefully he tells me nothing serious is wrong and I can go back to squatting!!

Lordy, Lord. Yet another waste of time. I had to go see the ortho just so he can set an appoinment for me to get the MRI. So next Friday I have an appoinment to get x-rays on both knees as well as an MRI on my right, then the following Thursday I meet with the ortho again to discuss my options. He said all the symptoms point to a torn or severed miniscus, which would require surgery. I guess they do it these days with just a couple holes as opposed to slicing the whole knee open, it's a same day release surgery, so recovery wouldn't be long he said. Oh well, in any case I'll find out soon enough what's wrong, after another assload of $$ for co-pays! :soapbox:

He told me I could do all regular activities with exception of squats, and if any other leg excercises strat to stress the knee to stop them immediately.

Just thought I'd throw out an update.

Did another 5 mile walk yesterday. Diet was actually good all weekend. I'm back on track. I plan to do at least a little cardio every day, weather providing. Got the 20 mile benefit walk on Sunday, that'll be fun! I can feel the shin splints already.

Back and Tri's tonight, I'm going to give the deadlifts a go and see how the knee holds up.

Tank- Good to see ya back in here! I have a feeling the surgery will be necessary, but it's not the end of the world, aye?

Beast- Thanks for the heads-up. the link should work properly now.

cphafner- The cause is Project Bread. It is to raise money to fight hunger in Boston. So far I have ~$250 raised, not to shabby.

http://www.gifs.cc/red1ac.gifNot toop happy with the session. I have lost a bit from my deadlift, and a LOT from my rows. My dips will come back fast I can tell. I miss dippin 3 plates!

So far so good with the knee. Didn't really feel much pain while deadlifting, aside from a very small *twinge*. Hopefully I don't wake up in the morning with a big knee.

Diet was definately off today, I was late for work and didn't have time to get any food ready. So the cals are WAY low. I won't bother with fitday today, but I will get back to that tomorrow.

Weather permitting, I'm going to do another 5 mile walk before doing shoulders and abs.

I'll catch up with y'alls journals in the AM. Night.
