View Full Version : Oatmeal before bed????

I get a little hungry right before I hit the hay, and toss and turn if my stomach is not full. Is it okay to have a small bowl of oats with some skim, or will this put on some fat? Say about 1 hour prior to bedtime?

I'd go with some casein proteins like cottage cheese or milk rather than carbs.

Yep, protein should be animal/milk/egg/fish based for a slower release... and inregards to the oats... too much carbs can lower your GH output doing sleep, I would keep the total carbs at no more than 30 grams.

Oatmeal before bed is so key. I almost always have a big bowl of oats before bed. They're really low GI, and filled with fibre, so they will take a long time to be digested. I say go right ahead. I believe carbs before bed can be quite anabolic (Eric mentioned it in one of his posts), so there's no problems.
