I don't really like to take in too much caffeine so I usually use protein as a substitute before workouts, meaning I try to take in as much protein as I possibly can before a workout and try to even take in protein during a orkout if I can. Do you guys think I shouldn't do this and instead drink a caffeine based energy drink before or during a workout?
if you don't really need the caffeine why take it ?

Umm... why aren't u taking protein AND carbs (and a little fat) for your preworkout meal (1-2 hours before workout) ? This is just basic.... if you want to use an ECA or whatever for a workout energy boost, that is one thing... and should not decide whether or not you have a proper preworkout meal.....
PM if you want a good pre/post workout article... or read the one in the articles section at www.thinkmuscle.com or the article at the www.wannabebig.com diet section or a million other places (The Weightrainer.net , etc...).
