Question, how do you get 405 out of that? You have 2 plates on the either side of the bar. Those plates are either 45 lbs, or 100 lbs. The bar is an Olympic style bar, thus is weighs
~45 lbs. So, you are either lifting 225 lbs or 445 lbs. Which is it?

was wondering also but i thought he had 2x90 per side

looks like 4 plates to me. Take a closer look at the 2nd pic; I think the low-resolutiuon is just makign it look like 2 plates instead of 4.... i am pretty sure I can see 4 plates a side in the 2nd pic

Yah, in first pic you can see 1 definitive line. The 2nd pic seems to show 4 plates.

Needsize - its me CoolColJ :)

its 4x45s on each side and an olympic bar
8x45=360+45(bar) = 405 :)

yeah its not a good angle. I should have taken the pic more front on.

That looks like 2 plates on either side! Taking a closer look at the second pic, it has a very obvious line in the middle of what looks like 2 plates. Those two plates just look like they have a 'join' mark in the middle of them. I only see two plates on either side there! But then again, I'm blind.

I see what you mean in the 2nd pic, but the plates seem quite skinny then, no? Maybe it is just the angle.

Its just the angle here are some other snaps from the original video of my 2nd attempt. Next time I'll cap it more from the front :)

You guys are blind. It's 4 plates. And I guess two plates would also make the bar bend a bit eh? Good pull.

thanks guys

Reinier - your not wrong  :hump:

That's North Shore Gym in Sydney.
Very down to earth gym, cheap too.
I can be seen there working out 5 times a week on average anywhere from 10:30am to 12:30pm :)
On a layoff at present back in action next Monday!

Its the only gym I've seen where it has such a high roof, and the main entrance is basicly a huge roller door, the bright area in the photos is where the entrance is. Definitely not a Chrome gym - I guess its kinda hardcore :)
The high roof make you feel real small and insignifcant :D

They used to have all these big old B&W bodybuilder pics on the wall, from 70s/80s. Someone complained about em and they removed most of them
But where I took those photos, just on the wall in front above the power racks are the Arnold ones. They must be worth something, they're old and big.

I guess people who hang out around the power rack don't mind these arnold pics :p
Anyway they are building a new gym down the road which will be twice the size - I fear it will become all modern and glitzy and chromey :(

I'll take some snaps of the gym and those Arnold pics the next time I'm there if anyone is interested

I'll bet you it does champ, because these companies are in it to make money and that means catering for spandex users and abusers.

North shore means which suburb exactly ?

Blitzforce

Its near Gordon/Pymble

Its pretty much near the intersection of Mona Vale road and the Pacific Highway- that huge interesction near the 3M building

that's too far for me - the city gyms are too commercial and a bit gay for my liking

Blitzforce

Yeah I like North Shore gym because its dirt cheap - $45AUD a month and its fairly low traffic and down to earth.

And no big guys with attitude problems :)

Despite the weight... what impresses me the most is....................................................... no straps!

Good Job!! I'm going to try my first 405 dead on Saturday (with straps) but we'll see... I pulled 385 3 times last week so I'm gonna give 405 a try!

Good job. Whats your weight ?

Blitzforce
10-31-2002, 02:23 PM
yeah back then, this was amost 1.5 months ago, my grip was not too bad, but the 405 was starting to slip in my hands. Since then I've been working my grip hard doing chins on a power rack, towel chins etc.

I'll need the grip strength cause I'll be attempting 500lbs raw
next month :)

I weighed about 192-194lbs back then, and still do, but I'm a bit leaner now, waist is about an inch smaller. So I've gained a few lbs of muscle, about 5 or so I think. Slightly over double BW.

Your form on 405 was pretty iffy...looks like you had a pretty hard time with it. To attempt an extra 100 lbs less than three months later is going to be a big stretch.

Be careful you don't hurt yourself. Seriously.

Blitzforce
10-31-2002, 02:47 PM
form was bad, but effort wasn't mega hard - I even did it twice

if anything my poor form made it harder for me.

I used too narrow a stance, and probably hand grip, and I moved my ass before the bar actually moved. I basicly try to clean pull it, and using my poor clean pull form at that :)

My form in everything has improved a lot, and so has my overall body strength. Anyway I don't deadlift because I need to do it, I deadlift to test my overall organism strength, if it goes up it means I'm stronger from point A to B.

And so far so good.
