09-17-2002, 03:42 PM
Ty, Chris & Everyone!

I find that your helpful reinforcement helps keep me motivated! I really appreciate the kind words!

Tryska, if you are out there, I REALLY liked your pic!

09-17-2002, 04:02 PM
i didnt.

You look big, I'm impressed, even though you clearly seem to think a lot of yourself already.

09-17-2002, 05:07 PM

Why do you say that?

Gyno Rhino
09-17-2002, 06:02 PM
Whatcha mean, Allen?

09-17-2002, 07:26 PM

You're a big mofaka. Rock on, man.

09-17-2002, 07:49 PM
I meant what I said.

I admit you look good for anyone, let alone someone of 39, but I've noticed that you seem to know that already.

Having a swollen head is not always a bad thing.

09-17-2002, 08:20 PM
The second pic looks great;) . Looking heaps better than the last lot you posted w8....

09-17-2002, 10:21 PM

You guys are awesome for the great compliments! Ty!

Allen, I don't know why you have the attitude you seem to have.

I am proud of my accomplishments, that's for sure. Over my time here, people have criticized everything from my diet, training methods, right down to the equipment I use to lift.

I feel like I am living proof that one doesn't need a fancy gym to make nice gains. I have an Image 3.8 Smith Machine

And a Weider 8630 Machine

A couple of Db's, an ez curl bar, an arm blaster, and a few accessories...

Even with these limitations, it's still possible to get somewhere if you really want to.

I also found an old pic from 1998, just a few months from when I started on this journey... this was pretty interesting.

09-18-2002, 05:48 AM
(pause while the mods authorize the pic...)

Now compare that pic to this one...

It's pretty dramatic!

09-18-2002, 01:00 PM

09-18-2002, 01:57 PM
Hey, Reinier! How ya been?

How's the training going?

09-23-2002, 05:46 AM
***Note to self... never single out Reinier... it kills the thread. ***

09-24-2002, 06:15 PM
Here's another one...

09-24-2002, 06:16 PM
This one's not too bad, either...

09-27-2002, 01:14 PM
W8..dont let Allan bother you....he's like that to everyone...arnt u allen? :P

anyways, u look good for an oldie hehe

09-27-2002, 05:16 PM
im doing good. so is training. ive broken prs many times and put on some mass.

how come you have your shades on in every single shot? on purpose so your harder to recognise or cuz the suns just that bad in FL?

09-27-2002, 05:18 PM
do your legs lag btw?

they shouldn`t cuz i remember you mentioning some serious weight on the squat but they seem small compared to the upper body in that last pic

09-27-2002, 06:44 PM
but you seems to have stopped losing fat.

09-28-2002, 09:56 AM
Rome wasn't built in a day, ya know... those pics are like one or two days apart. How much fat ya gonna shed in 2 days?

Reinier, good job breakin' those pr's, Bro. Keep it up. That's my garage... it's very sunny here in FL... that's why they call it the Sunshine State...

09-28-2002, 09:59 AM
Oh, legs...

Well, actually they have never been better. I have been doing leg stuff 3 nights per week. Squats, leg press, leg curl, leg ext, standing and seated calf work...

I work out upper body muscle groups in the a.m., and M-W-F evenings, I do legs.

09-28-2002, 10:31 AM
wow, buddy, if i looked like that in your age i would be damn happy! good work. did u ever train when u were younger?

09-28-2002, 01:37 PM
No offense man, but you gotta get better at taking criticism.

09-28-2002, 01:41 PM
Agreed. w8, nobody's going to patronize you and say "you look great for your age". You know that, right? Hell, you look good for any age. But we're all here to be exceptional, so occasionally somebody's going to give you that kick in the butt. Even if it's mr. jackass making comments, you gotta roll with em. :)

09-28-2002, 03:40 PM
great improvements W8 from the before and after! keep up the hard work!

09-28-2002, 03:47 PM
you look great for your age;)

09-28-2002, 04:27 PM
What criticisms did I fail to accept well?

09-29-2002, 10:37 AM
No reply...

Well, the only thing I see in this entire thread is that HK said it didn't look like I was dropping any more fat. I agree. The first pics I took were on September 16 and the next two were on September 18. Not much body fat reduction in 2 days.

With countless stops and starts, I started lifting weights in 1980 when I was 17. By 1982, I joined a PL gym and got strong. I competed locally with around a 1,350 lb total.

Continued to lift while in the Army, still was competing locally, but the totals grew to closer to 1,500 lbs. Broke my right arm in half in very late 1984, it was said that I'd never touch a weight again.

Undaunted, I kept training abs and legs (mostly legs ;) ) , had a 2nd surgery in Jan 1990, picked the weights up again in Jan 1991 (Dr. required a full year to heal)

More hit-or-miss training until 1996, when a Bally's standing calf machine crumpled while I was in the middle of a full stack set... herniated disc in lower back. 6 months therapy. We settled out of court.

More hit-or-miss training... no real serious goals, ya know...

1998... decided that working out at home was just the ticket. Been doing it that way ever since. i like it. It matches whatever MY schedule happes to be, not the other way around.

I work from home, stay at home with the 3 kids... and have a goal to compete in a local natural BB comp on or after May of 2003, that being my 40th birthday, placing me in the "Masters" category. Masters is a very nice way of saying "Old Fart".

Since we all know that there is a real shortage of 40 year olds who are in shape, I feel that I might have a very nice chance of placing well.

I train via Arnold's Encyclopedia (revised)... Advanced Level One program. It was pretty easy to alter it to meet my needs. I must say and am WAY pleased with this workout! Never did anything like it and I think it's just awesome.

So now ya know a little bit more about me....

Looking good W8!! Starting to shame me into posting some pics. Us old guys have to stick together. (but your still a little older than me.:D )

09-30-2002, 06:46 PM
Post away! I'd love to see 'em! ;)

Yeah, I may be a fossil, but I've finally figured out how to have the body I've wanted my whole life.

09-30-2002, 09:13 PM
lol..you are looking good for an "old Guy"..im almost there..in both years and size:)..look good w8 !

10-01-2002, 08:09 AM
W8, so when do you plan on cutting up? What do you think you will ahve to get down to in order to be in contest shape? Gonna do anything special as far as diet goes?

10-01-2002, 01:50 PM

That's a good question.

Diet is the absolute WEAKEST part of my training. No two ways about it. I am a pretty picky eater, and most of the stuff I prefer is... uh... not the right stuff.

Diet-wise, I am going to eat several small meals each day, try to find good stuff that I will eat, and pump up the cardio about 5 notches more.

I have to get on this pretty quick, because it'll be May before I realize it.

Got any suggestions?

10-01-2002, 01:52 PM
Cool man, ya diet is a huge part in training. Good luck with it!!

Well I followed what started to be a carb rotation type diet and lost 30lbs on it (from 210 to 180). It worked well. Now I am trying to cut even more (had some personal issues to deal with so things stopped) and there is a thread that I started about it in the Diet section..check it out
