I noticed that there's a new version of skim milk/fat free milk available in my local grocery store. It's called "Skim Rich" and is supposed to be more like milk with fat content.
I tried it and it does have a more opaque white color and a thicker consistency than the usual watery, slightly blue skim milk...I know a lot of people don't like regular skim milk if they're used to "real" milk.
Anyways, the stuff is really good, especially on cereal or in protein shakes. The added ingredients are carrageenan--a seaweed extract that is used in most ice cream to give it a creamy texture--and cellulose gel (thickening agent). The nutritional content is the same, but the taste and texture is far superior.
If you use skim milk, try this stuff...it costs the same but tastes a whole lot better!
