I take an NLarge II Shake, 3 scoops that equates to about 40 protein, 62 carb, 3 fat. How long should I wait before I eat?

Does the protein get metabolized faster after my workout?

I eat my whole food meal about 45-60 minutes after drinking my protien/carb shake.

I'm waiting around 90 minutes right now, but I don't want to wait more than 60. Have you got any links to studies or articles about this? I hate waiting.

i usually wait about 90 mins, what i find takes up time is reading the paper while having a soak in the tub. relaxing :)

While picturing that has certainly taken care of my appetite :), am I correct in assuming that my 90 minutes of wait time is safe and that I am not going to waste my protein.

(My grocery budget is a tight thing.)

after my workout i eat aprox 600 calories i have 3 scoops of whey protein in water and 24 oz of juice with my creatine.... then i wait about 2 hours to 2 and half hours before my next meal i used to wait an hour but i dont see how eating any sooner after my shake is gonna change anything

I dont think the difference of 30 min will make a huge difference, but I usually eat 60 min after cuz its easier to fit my cals in like that.

from what i understand your post workout insulin levels are way down. so what you do is consume your whey/creatine w/ a high GI carb to spike that level back up as to help "drive" those nutrients into your muscles. now you don't want that level to come crashing down(your muscles are still "begging" for more!) so you need to eat something an hour later.

That makes sense.

well true.. but your body can only take soo much true your post workout meal should probably be your biggest but i think anywhere from 1 - 2 and half hours is good depending on your post workout meal

Ya, I think the general consensus is about 90mins after your workout, maybe a little earlier or later depending on how big your post workour meal is (right after your workout).

i think post workout meals are the most important in helping to control the catabolic hormones(glucagon and cortisol). there's that 1-3 hour "window" where ya want to restore that anabolic metabolism...instead of catabolism. otherwise, your body will sacrifice muscle amino acids to restore glucose levels.

I start preparing my evening meal(s) immediately upon arriving home. (around 1930)

During the preparation period (about 30-45 minutes) I consume the post w/o beverage. (5g glutamine/30g whey/16oz sports drink/16 oz purified water)

As soon as the meat is finished broiling, the vegetables steaming and the potatoes baking I start eating.

I don't stop (usually another meal or two) until I hit the sack around midnight. (except to take a shower)

Keep in mind that whey and any high GI carbs you consume post workout will probably be digested much sooner than normal meals.
