Hopefully this will spark something in me to get my ass in gear. I feel that I've started slipping and I don't like that. I'm going to start posting my diet too but at the moment its too embarassing.

At the moment my workouts are structured as:

Monday: Back
Tuesday: Chest
Wednesday: Rest
Thursday: Legs
Friday: Shoulders
Saturday: Rest
Sunday: Rest

The only steady things amongst these are pull-ups and dips. Other than that I don't know what I'm going to do until I get to the gym.

I work nights so there may be times when I say today but it really meant yesterday and sometimes I'll say today and it really means today but not tomorrow. Hopefully this'll workout for me.

I'm only posting working sets until I get a template so bear with me if you take the time to read this crap.

Incline DB press:
5 reps x 100lbs
5 reps x 110lbs

dips
+145 x 5 reps
+115 x 7 reps

hammer strength machine (decline)
10 x 180
8 x 200

incline flyes
10 x 20lbs
10 x 30lbs

some kind of cable chest pressing torture apparatus
drop set 1:
6x100, 5x80, 6x60, 8x40
drop set 2:
6x90, 6x70, 8x50, 12x30

At the end of this I felt good but I still feel like its too much volume. I'm trying to find the happy medium that I know exists somewhere. At any rate tomorrow (or today for you day people) is a day off. I'll evaluate my soreness and see.

Calories: probably around 3000 just because of MRP's. I'm still trying to learn how to eat at night.

weight: 195lbs. Its going back up but still down from a few weeks ago.

Thnx for the compliments!

As far as 5'11" and 195lbs, I don't know the rest. No tape measure and I haven't checked my bf% in months.

Due to an unfortunate recent incident, all workouts for the remainder of the week will have to be put on hold, but I'll be back Monday doing my favorite: back.

Finally got back in the gym. I skipped leg day. I'm trying to get my adductor back up to strength. I pulled it doing lunges. At any rate, today's workout:

Seated dumbbell presses
4x5x90lbs
1x4x90lbs

upright rows SS w/ BB shrugs
8x135lbs SS w/ 10x225lbs
10x135lbs SS w/ 10x225lbs

one set of heavy BB shrugs
6x315lbs

free motion shoulder press SS w/ calf machine shrugs
drop set**
5x150, 6x110, 6x80, 8x50 SS w/ 10x40, 10x60
6x130, 5x100, 6x70, 8x40 SS w/ 10x60, 10x80, (30 sec rest), 10x100

**I don't say lbs. here because I don't think they really are just whatever the numbers on the machine plates are

reverse cable flyes SS w/ bent over reverse cable flyes
2x (10x50 SS w/ 10x20)

Some tricep work but nothing major. I'll give arms a day to themselves when I switch routines again in a month or so.

Complaints: I have yet to find a CD player that won't quit cutting off on me. If it gets the slightest bump(well maybe a little more) it cuts off. Piece of ****!! This is the 3rd one I've tried. I spending more money on damn CD players. Any recommendations?

Measurements to come soon. I've found a tape measure.

Today was a nice rest day.

Went to see the Carolina Panthers play. Which I must say sucked a big one. So many screw ups and ****ty plays there at the end. They could have won the damn game if they hadn't screwed up. But "if 'ifs' and 'buts' were candy and nuts what a wonderful Christmas we'd have." Better luck next time.

Tomorrow's back day and I'm getting psyched for it. Its the best day of the week. That's why I have it on monday's. I'm thinking chins and powercleans tomorrow. Maybe some bent-over row if I'm feeling it after powercleans.

I'm still waiting to start posting my diet once I get into the routine of working nights. I've gotta start buying my stuff at the grocery store and making the day before. Spending too much money eating out and taking it with me.

10/28 Back day
Throughtout this entire workout I toss in some kind of chins besides the weighted SS with bentover rows. I do somewhere in the neighborhood or 60-70 chins over the course of the entire workout.

Power cleans
4x185lbs
4x185lbs
3x205lbs

Bentover row SS w/ wide grip chins
6x225lbs. SS w/ 6x+55lbs
6x225lbs. SS w/ 4x+70lbs

hammer strength shrugs
2x (10x280lbs(wide) SS w/ 10x280lbs(narrow))
drop set [10x280, 10x230, 10x180, 10x90]

Some standing cable curls were tossed in just for good measure. Overall this workout sucked, but my back felt pretty good the next day so I must have done something right.

10/29 Chest day
First I have to say I hate workingout in the afternoon. Way too many damn people in the gym.

Incline DB press
4x100lbs
5x115lbs
4x115lbs

Dips
4x+150lbs
4x+135lbs
6x+115lbs

Flat BB press
6x205lbs
6x215lbs
6x225lbs

After that I was done. I felt I could have done lots more on bench but at that point my heart just wasn't into it. All the people around me were getting on my nerves and I just wanted to get the hell out.

WillKuenzel

This is where I completely suck. My legs need so much work.

ATF squat
10x135
8x185

Wide stance squats (parallel)
6x225
6x255
8x185

Walking lunges
12x135 (6 each leg)
12x165 (ditto)
8x185 (4 each leg)

Seated donkey like calf raise thingy
6x415
8x365
8x315
6x295, 10 extra partial reps

Front ATF squats
6x135
6x135

SLDL
10x135
10x185
8x235

Standing calf raises
6xfull stack (it says 15 wow!!)
6xfull stack
6x12
6x10
6x8
6x6 (barefeet)
6x4 (barefeet)

This workout sucked. I'd pulled my adductor a while back and my legs still haven't gotten back up to where they used to be. I was going to try to do leg press but it hurt enough almost to make me start crying (I'm such a baby).

stuff that pissed me off
I walk in and there is some idiot sitting on seated leg press machine reading a magazine. As I'm warming up for about 15 minutes he is still there reading. WTF is he doing? Doesn't do a freakin thing but sit there and read. Go to the damn house if you want to read your damn Good Housekeeping.

So many freakin people on cell phones. This one freakin brat-ass idiot is during curls in the power rack. On top of that he is on the phone for over 30 minutes while standing in there. There was another squat rack at least but what the hell was he doing. Standing around, talking on the phone not doing a freakin thing, for 30 minutes. Noboby else really needed it but it the principle of the matter. Why doesn't anybody realize what the hell is going on?

It must have been because it was freakin halloween but the gym was just packed with morons and idiots. As I was leaving I say some guy doing what I guess he thought was lat pulldowns. Man, if I did 'em the way he was doing them my hams and back would be so sore the next day. I don't understand. I don't understand. That's it I'm done ranting. Its not helping. Please ignore me.

I need help with my legs. If anybody has any advice, I'd be very appreciative for any suggestions.

Today I weighed 193. I was weighing more, almost 200 but its dropped down over the past couple of weeks.

On my dips my elbows normally stay pretty close. They're not directly by my side but probably closer in than flaring out.

Thanks for the compliments Monstar. I'm working on getting up to 220-230 and then I'd like to try and really cut. I'm going to start really bulking in the next couple of days and try to keep it up through until March or April when I may decide to cut. Just have to see if I can get that heavy.

I'm wanting to get big but I've really started concentrating more on strength. Hopefully the size will come with it too but its not my number one priority anymore. I read over that training program and it looks like fun. I may have to do some research and look into it later. I really want to get my squat up first before I start concentrating on size again.

Well I missed workingout today because some friends have come in for the weekend. So shoulders will have to wait until next week. I'm not as concerned about missing shoulders as I would be back or legs but it still feels weird not to workout.

All that aside tomorrow I'm going to see Tool and Meshuggah. Man, that should be a freakin awesome show. I missed Meshuggah when they were on the Ozzfest tour because the son-of-a-bitch didn't come through Charlotte. What a loser. Who cares, Tool and Meshuggah. Tool baby!!

Gym was the most crowded I had ever seen it. What is it about Monday's that brings out all the freakin wannabe's. Anyway...

wide grip pull-ups
+80x4
+70x4
+45x6
BWx10 (6 to the back, 4 to the front) I like doing them behind the neck

deadliftI should have just left these out.
225x4
315x2
315x2 (still very easy, kept really good form, need more weight!!)

I was really unhappy here. I could have done more and why I didn't I'll never know.

T-bar row
CG 160x6
CG 135x8
WG 135x6
WG 90x10

WG shrugs SS w/ CG shrugs
275x6 SS w/ 135x10
275x6 SS w/ 135x10
315x4 SS w/ 135x10

all kinds of pull-ups and assisted pull-ups
Here I just did whatever in the gym hit my fancy for about 10-15 minutes, with 30-45 second rest inbetween. This really set my back on fire. I love finishing with drop sets and supersets in the assited pull-up machine. You can really concentrate on the lats while still keeping good form.

I think there was a set or 2 of biceps in there somewhere but I really think that its insignificant. I hate doing arms. Just something to work them but that's it.

Beginning to think crowded gyms on Monday is a GLOBAL problem everyone has LOL. :help:

Folks party all weekend and feel guilty so they rush to the gym and do chest and some curl jockey stuff and then you don't see them again until next Monday.

My gym is the same way....crowded as hell on Monday's. :p

At least you do back on Monday's when everyone else is doing chest. It could be worse haha.

Are these BTN or to the front HY? Just curious. Because I find BTN chins a million times friggin' harder than chins to the front. Maybe thats just me though.

WillKuenzel
11-05-2002, 08:42 PM
Monstar: The heavier pull-ups are to the front, bar to chest. I could probably (maybe, but unlikely) get one or 2 BTN. I normally only do BTN with +25 or less so I can go all the way to my shoulders. BTN is a whole helluva lot harder.

Frozenmoses:Thanks man. For a couple of months I was getting close to 6000-7000 calories a day. I was eating and taking MRP with my meals, probably 3 out of the 6-7 meals I ate. That's when I put on the most weight. Right now I'm struggling trying to get it back up to 3000-4000 just to maintain and even at that I'm losin weight. Since I switched jobs I've lost close to 15 pounds. Some of it was water weight but not all of it.

BBI've learned to structure my routine pretty much based off what is popular on different days. Of course the squat rack is almost always open, except with the curl jockey's curling in it but other than that, its my sanctuary. I'm dreading the next couple of months. Holidays and the months after always seem to get packed with people.

Today was a pretty good workout. Not the best. I didn't go up in weight in some stuff but I tried to increasing reps. Got it on most of 'em.

Inclince DB press
warmup 80x5, 95x5
115x5
115x4

Dips(I love doing these)
heavy weight first
+135x5
+135x5
+115x7
+90x6 (did these turned around, the dip station has angled bars, hits it differently)
+90x8 (normal, drop set here out)
+70x6
+45x6

Cable Flyes
50x10
70x10

Flat bench BB press
225x3
225x3
225x3
These are pretty much for form. Not to failure.

Cybex bench machineIts just a seated bench press machine with a stack. Good for drop sets
120x10
100x10
80x8
60x10
40x12

That's it.

Overall it was good. I really like doing those exercises that hit the upper and inner chest. LOL, ahhh, nevermind.

On to the ramblings and degenerates: I don't what it is but I love tall women. If a woman is taller than 6' I'm instantly attracted to her. There was this tall girl at the gym tonight. Hiatchamama, she was hot!! Almost enough to distract me from my workout but not quite. Scenary in the gym never hurt anyone though.

It was pretty nice at the gym tonight. Not quite as crowded as last night but still packed but pretty much devoid of any gym idiots, but then again I wasn't paying as much attention tonight. Focus was better.

Dip station at my gym is the same way. How does this differ from how it feels doing it the other way around? I mainly do dips for tri's though (I don't lean forward...keep body straight and elbows in). Still, just curious.

If I do it reversed the handles tend to slope up so I think I tend to lean forward to overcompensate for it. When this happens I tend to feel it more in my chest. My elbows flare out a little bit more and my wrist get weaker because of the increased angle. It tends to stretch my chest more and more resembles doing bench dips than anything. The normal way, I can do more weight and it hits the triceps pretty hard. That's why I don't have any more tricep work on this day.

Well I went to the grocery store yesterday. I've decided to really crack down on my diet. I'm trying to bulk so it won't be so strict that I won't go eat out every so often but the stuff I've been eating recently has really got me in the dumps.

Let's think abou this for a minute. Out of the week how many hours are there? 168. Well of that 168, how much time is spent in the gym? For me only 4. So that's only 2.4% of my week spent in the gym. The other 97.6% of the week is spent at work, eating, and sleeping. Now if I want to maximize my efforts in the gym I figure I have to maximize my efforts outside the gym too.

Well, "Duuhh," you say. Right now I'm getting 8-9 hours sleep every night. This is alot better than the 3-4 I was getting just a couple of months ago. Well now its time to change my diet too. Its also time to let go of some of the things that cause so much stress.

Stress can probably be one of the worst things a person can have. Its not going to help too much to hold on to the things that bring about this stress. Anyway, whatever, you aren't here to read about this crap.

Being that its morning time for me I've only had my first meal and the next is coming up soon. I'll be posting my daily diet about the time most of you are either getting up or going to work, when I'm gonig to bed.

I always take my mult and creatine. This was my off day so it'll definitely. Tomorrow will be different. I promise.

Meal 1: Weightgainer shake, 3 eggs, 2 pieces WW toast
Meal 2: 2 turkey sandwiches on WW
Meal 3: Chicken breast with brocolli
Meal 4: Strawberries, 2 different kinds of dry cereal (mostly a snack)
Meal 5: Oatmeal, cottage cheese with peaches
Meal 6: shake and something else before bed (not sure yet, will edit later)

Being as I've started writing this down, it sure doesn't seem like enough. I've got to start packing more food.

I had the Nike PSA for a while...I think you'll like it. I beat the sh*t out of it and it still worked. I even ran a half marathon with the sucker. I just sold it for $140 to a friend of mine...sucker. Nah, it had extra memory on it and a custom case. Eitherway, MP3 players are the way to go if you're working out.

Ahhh, the euphoria of a extremely horrendous leg day. (for me anyway, so STFU =) ) I absolutely love the way I feel after legs. Like I'm floating along. Laying on my back drifting down a long smooth river in a canoe. The sun shining down on my happy face giving me the most brillantly content smile that has ever graced the face of man. My body devoid of all pain and complications. Of course then I wake up, from being passed out on the floor. My leg writhing in pain and fire in my lungs, and then I have to go to work.

Enough ramblings, the workout:

warmup
tri-set of light smithmachine squats, goodmornings, calfraises

seated hammer strength donkey like calf raise thingy
SS w/
seated calf raises
360x8 SS w/ 90x10
410x8 SS w/ 110x10
410x8 SS w/ 110x8 & 90x10

box squat speed work
this was done with pretty light weight as I'm still getting used to the box squat
135x10
155x10
185x10
Form started getting better on these but I realized my hams aren't strong enough to really do a shins perpendicular squat. I kept pretty much falling down on the bench right at parallel. About an inch in there where I really need some strength.

squats
255x4
225x6

lying leg curls
130x10
150x10
170x6 drop set to 130x8
For some strange reason these felt extremely light. 130 was the most I had ever done before and when I did 150 for ten I was like, "Damn!" Same machine and everything so I don't know why these were different today.

SLDL
225x10
275x10
295x8
Again these felt light. Normally I only do 225 for 6 but then it was easier. I kept good form here too. Really felt this in my hams. Form started to suffer on the last few reps but still not ugly.

leg extensions
200x10
215x10
Nothing really here. Just leg extensions.

one set of walking lunges
165x10 (5 each leg)
This just completely finished me off. I normally try to go for 12 reps but I was toast. I stumbled in to the locker room at this point.

I need to start doing calves more than once a week. Or just give them a day to themselves. I'm just not getting the calf work I think they need. I gave them priority today but it may have not been enough sets. I was running short on time anyway.

My sinuses or something are starting to bother me. Nose runney and stuffed up, sore throat. As far as strength I feel good, mentally I'm tired as a Goodyear factory. Good strength today but I'm just not hungry. Must eat. Must force food... need to recover.

ectx: what are you using now that you sold yours? I keep looking. I get pretty particular about stuff that I buy that I'm goign to try to use for awhile ( I guess that's a good thing ).

I'm still keeping the diet. You can pry it from my cold dead hands. hehe. I want a roast beef sandwich on wheat.

I use an iPod. The little sucker rocks. It's pricey though, but then again, mine was a gift so I can't argue...and yeah, it works on XP and 2000 machines. I think there's even a patch out for Unix machines and they're selling the suckers at Best Buy and Target nowadays. The model I have is the first one out...5 gigs. The new ones hold 20 gigs. It has a 20 min buffer so no skips, and I run with mine...had it for a year...no problems. It's tiny too, and the 1494 connection is pretty damned fast.

I'm out of roast beef man. Seriously. I was really bummed when my roast beef on wheat turned into a can of tuna on wheat. I'm gonna cook up some chicken breasts and use them instead. I'll lend you my diet...for now...but when I get stronger, I'll come a prying!

ectx: No roast beef!!! Ahhh, that's okay. I've got turkey tonight. I'd cooked up some chicken too. If I stay on your diet and add a little bit to it, hehe, you may be prying for a while.

That ipod sounds nice. I may have to be saving up some money. Christmas is around the corner too. I was thinking about getting a digital camecorder. The toys get more and more expensive. Have to start weighing the options.

I've been feeling lousy today. Sinuses or something are killing me. Diet suffered a little today because of it.

Preworkout: cup of yogurt and protein shake
Postworkout: sweettarts, another protein shake and weightgainer shake
Meal 1: super chopburger, a big hoggie
Meal 2: 2 turkey sandwiches on whole wheat, Nutrageous candybar
Meal 3: chicken breast with sweetpotato
Meal 4: an apple, hehe, with a protein bar
Meal 5: 3 eggs, 2 pieces of WW toast, bowl of oatmeal
Meal 6: weightgainer shake before bed and a banana

I still don't think this is enough but I'm working on it.

BB: Yeah, its just getting back into the swing of it. I've got the stuff, just need to apply it. I'm a hardgainer so expect to see lots of weightgainer. I need to order some XXL. Its a drink I used to pick up. 1100 calories in 32oz. Good stuff. 50-60g. protein.

ectx: LOL, yeah it might be the strength. I take it in spurts so I guess I really wasn't expecting it. Hehe, maybe I'll let some of my diet slip your way on occassions.

I'm pissed. I thought I did a fairly good leg workout yesterday. WRONG!! Unless I have DOM's tomorrow or the next day. My legs ain't feeling nothing but ready to go again. Hopefully I won't eat my words today but I thought I had a decent workout. Especially for not sleeping any today and waking up with both nostrils of my nose bleeding. Yeah it was a bad night.

Arnold press
55x6
70x6
These are basically a warmup set for my shoulder presses

Seated DB press
95x5
85x7
I hate trying to get these DB's up into posittion. I have to get more pumped to get these up than I do just doing the presses.

CG Upright Rows SS w/ Smith Machine shrugs
165x6 SS w/ 180x10
155x8 SS w/ 230x10
135x10 (done really slow, nice negatives) SS w/ 230x10

High Pulls
135x5
185x6
225x4
185 was enough and pulled pretty high but 225 was a bear. I probably should have just done 195 or 205 but no I had to be a bad ass. hehe

Jerk Press
135x6
155x6
175x5
Good increase here. I haven't done these in a while. Even though they require some leg work I like the explosive work here.

Free Motion Cable Press
150x5 (full stack)
120x8
I like doing these. The motion is different.

Shrugs done in calf raise machine
80x10
100x10
120x10 (form started falling here but still a good set)

reverse cable flyes SS w/ bent over cable flyes
50x10 SS w/ 30x10
50x10 SS w/ 20x10
40x10 SS w/ 20x10

shoulder press machine drop set
200x5 (full stack, need a couple extra pounds)
150x5
120x4
90x5
50x8

Standing lateral raises SS w/ DB shrugs
20x10 with 3" hold at top SS w/ 105x10
20x10 with 3" hold SS w/ 110x8

DB shrug dropset
70x10
60x10
55x10
50x10
45x10

Breathing Squats
165x20
I needed to do something for my legs. I wonder if I'll feel these?

Before you even begin to harp on me about overtraining you should know that higher volume training works better for me. I trained with a guy for while and we did less and I didn't make near the gains I do now and I was eating better then with the same amount of sleep. So I think it works for me, so bloody well piss off. hehe

Well I haven't updated this with my diet because it has royally sucked the big one. I've got sinus trouble or something so the bed has been my friend the past couple of days. Good things its the weekend or work would have needed somebody to cover for me.

Its driving me crazy because the better I eat the better i feel but I'm having a hard time getting up to get in the kitchen. Feeling better today though so I should be back on track. Seems like just once you get things situated, something jumps in and throws you all off.

You're kidding right? Of course you'll feel these. I think they're best done though at the end of your leg day though...kind of like a "you think you're fried yet...bwahahaha...now squat". Don't quote me on that, though. I'm usually about to fall over after doing these. Do you do them ATF? Just curious.

Get better...and maybe you can get an escort to ummm, go and get you food. Yeah. That'll work. Strictly for the food.

Sadly enough, I really didn't feel those the next day, but oh did I feel them at the time. My legs never got sore from the workout the day before those either. I don't know what's up. I always do any squats I do, ATF. Its only after I get above 225 that I start going for just competition depth. I probably bounce out of it more than I should but if I'm going for 20 reps I kind of start off pretty fast.

Hehe, I definitely need a nice escort to go get me food and to feed me between video game levels while I'm wrapped up on the couch. But umm, yeah, hehe, strictly for food... lol

HomeYield, do you like living in Charlotte?

And if I might ask, how old are you?

I might have to job hunt here very soon and I'm serioulsy considering Charlotte as a place I wouldn't mind relocating if it comes to that. I'd prefer Columbia first, Greenville second, then Charlotte.

Breathing Squats or Exhaustion Squats are ace for the quads. I usually stick a 1" board under the heels of my feet and do them. I also was wondering about you shrugs in the standing calve maching. How well does that work compared to regular BB shrugs?

GG

WillKuenzel

BB: I like Charlotte pretty good. I have some family here so I'm sticking around for awhile. Its a nice place. Its close enough to plenty of things to do. Plenty of things to do around here too.

I'm 22. Been living in Charlotte since 17. This is where I went to school. Probably be here for a couple more years.

Charlotte's a nice place to work. Traffic really isn't the worst and parking around here ain't too bad. I'm thinking about moving to Rock Hill and commuting to Charlotte. With my work schedule traffic won't be a big deal for me.

Let me know if you ever come up and we'll try and get together.

MonStar: I haven't yet. I've been reading and probably will at some point but that's still a couple years off. I'm just getting serious with my diet and training picking up so I don't think I've raeched the point where I've plateaued. I'm toying with the idea but I've got to do some more reading.

GG: I may have to try adding the board underneath to do squats. When I was first learning I had to put the board underneath because I couldn't seem to get the depth for a full squat without it. That really helped my quads then, maybe its time to try that again.

The calf machine shrugs is just something different. I like it because you can't jerk with your arms to get momentum to pull the bar up. You can put your arms wherever and just shrug. It feels about the same. The one reasone I started doing them was because I wanted to superset seated machine shoulder presses with shrugs and it just happened to be close so I figure I'd give it a shot.

Slanted wide grip pull-ups
BWx10
BWx10
+25x8
+25x6

deadlift
225x5

135x10 (Hands Facing)
225x6 (HF)

185x8 (HF)

+70x8
+45x6

straight bar chins
+25x8
BWx10
BWx10 (6 BTN, 4 to the front)

SLDL
135x10
225x10
225x10

DB rows
90x10 (each arm)
100x10 (ditto)
110x10 (ditto)

lying leg curls
170x1 (felt really good), 2 (pretty light), 3 (AAAHHHH WTF was that ****... jeez freaking, ****, **** , damn, ****, AAAAHHHH, that **** really hurt what the hell)

Okay here I thought somebody had just stabbed my left ham with a knife right below my right cheek and just ripped my ham all the way down to my knee. The weight was over half way up and it just came slamming down, and I limped around like a mangled zombie from a bad horror movie with my face red as a fire truck and cussin enough to make people 10 feet away blush. It still ****in' hurts. It feels like its bleeding but I know its not. Just got that hot running feeling to it. Jeez this blows. What the hell am I going to be doing about legs now.

btw...Have you been warming up those muscles before you rip them to shreds????

WillKuenzel
11-12-2002, 01:55 AM
Miss: The "speedy recovery" will more than likely be 2-weeks-no-legs-at-all. I'm hoping its not more serious than that. Ice for the first 48 hours and heat and gentle stretching after that.

ectx: I was just starting to feel a little better about my legs and then this. *sigh* Ice it is but I ain't seeing a doc. I have a phobia on top of a not having been to the doctor in 3 years. I'd like to keep my streak going for a little bit longer. One week and if its not feeling better enough, then the doc it it. *heavy sigh* Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

Franjipani: Hehe, I'm hearing but I don't always listen real well. LOL!
I was hoping the sets of deadlifts and SLDL would have been enough to warm up but evidently not in this case. I should have known better because this was my first time doing hams on back day. I should have taken more precautions but I guess I just got carried away. Hindsight is 20/20.

"Good judgement is the result of experience ... Experience is the result of bad judgement."

Its going to be full upper body for the next 2 weeks with everything I'm going to be doing done seated. Like I said at the end of the first week if I don't feel like I can bend over to touch my toes (standing straight leg, knees locked, I can usually touch my nose to my knees), which is normally very easy, I'm going to the doctor.

I'm hoping after a weeks rest I should be back on track but I'm going to give it another week just to be sure. A week of light weight and then my hams are going to get it. Little pieces of sh*t aren't going to do this to me again. They need to get stronger for deads and squats anyway.

That's my plan anyway.

HY, I did something very similar but with my calf playing softball and I got a feeling you just pulled it very badly. Yes, keep ice to it and stay off it as much as possible. 2-4 weeks no leg work sounds right unfortunately. I couldn't work my calves for a month or more. I could barely walk for 2 days. Had a noticeable limp. It sucks I know, and I feel for you. You want lose much if anything in one month if you keep your protein levels up and the rest of your diet in order. Sorry bro. Hang in there!

Tryska: If that's the case then I may need a spanking everyday. Several times a day... please (Its for motivation purposes, really). hehe Thanks for stopping by and now don't be a stranger. The doors always open.

BB: I'm just really bummed out about not training legs. I was starting to really like that day. Its going to be tough trying to readjust some of my other workouts because a lot of the movements indirectly use legs as stablizers or just carrying the weight around can be difficult.

Diet for today:

preworkout protein shake, yogurt, multivitamin, ripped fuel
postworkout protein shake, sweet tarts, vit B, E, and C
post workout heavy weight gainer shake
Meal 1: chicken hoagie
Meal 2: 2 turkey sandwiches (on wheat), candybar
Meal 3: chicken breast and broccoli, candybar
Meal 4: spaghetti w/ .5lb of meat
Meal 5: 3 eggs, oatmeal
Misc.: protein bar, banana, pack of crackers

getting better but could still use some work

A few more tricep sets but nothing worth mentioning.

I'm thinking after shoulders on Friday I may just take a week off. Not do anything. I'll probably feel better about that than working out and not doing legs. eh, we'll see...

A week of rest sounds good. Still, props to you for getting motivated enough to workout when the leg issue's still bumming you. I know it ain't easy. Have you thought of doing a mixed blend protein powder before going to bed? Just a thought (not that I know much about diet).

*takes HomeYield's salmon and leaves a few slices of roast beef*

Just saw your pics on page 1...you're right...my forearms do look harrier than your entire body. Hairest Bastard! j/k

I've seen enoug of your diet to know I can learn a few things. What's a mixed-blend protein? Most mornings I have a weight gainer with protein mixed in there. The ingredients look something like this:
2 cups milk
3 scoops weight gainer (one serving)
1 scoop protein powder (half a serving)
3tbsp heavy cream
3tbsp flax seed oil
1 banana
just a little strawberry margarita mix (adds a nice strawberry taste)

That in itself is tough to get down and on top of breakfast too. Is their anything I can add to it?

*gets bread for a roast beef sandwich* yum. That hit the spot.
*fires up grill and pulls out an extra salmon that was stashed below the vegetables (knows nobody would look there)* hehe

Being blond I don't grow much hair and what hair does grow just sort of blends in. That and I shave my head every 3-4 days. Believe it or not, I used to have a nice long pony tail, back in my alternative band playing days. I might have had more hair then ya then. :)

A mixed blend lo carb protein shake is basically a protein powder that comes from multiple sources whey, casein, egg, milk isolate, etc. The idea is that they last a little longer in your system and will get you through the night a little better, which is why you'd take it before going to bed. At least that's the theory.

You're being sarcastic about adding stuff to it, aren't you? Dang that's like a mega-weight gainer shake. BB makes a pretty mean MRP shake too. I'd look in his journal. It sounds pretty tasty.

Alternative then was Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Bush. I still listen and play to some new alternative music, but I've moved on too. I grew into heavy, death, and speed metal. As my guitar abilities evolved so did my tastes for speed and complex harmonies. Right now my favorite bands are Machine Head, Disturbed, Godsmack and Meshuggah. Although I play alot of older Metallica and Megadeth (Rust in Peace!!), I try to keep learning new stuff too.

Today though I listen to every type of music, trying to absorb anything I can to help me get better. Most days you'll find me listening to anything from country (though rarely) to rock (occassionally) to metal (more often then not). I love all types of music but the music that impresses me the most are classical guitar players like Andre Segovia.

If you ever get the chance, try to find a copy of Mason Williams' "Classical Gas". This is my all time favorite piece to play. Absolutely beautiful.

Hehe, I'm sure that was a little bit more than you asked for but you asked me about one of my passions. Music, weightlifting, and computers (in that order). When I get on one of these I can get a bit long winded. LOL, sorry.

Its still bothering me pretty good. It'll definitley be another week or 2 before its really ready to go.

Not working out drives me crazy. Of all the years, I've been lifting, most not serious but..., I have never had an injury that completely put me off from working that body part. It was always something I could work around. This ain't and its eating me up because I keep thinking I could be doing something else about it. It makes me feel like such a pansy.

I'm going to have to change up routine for a couple weeks to do something. I may try to do some quads and seated calf raises. I going to put a day in there for arms by themselves too. Just to keep workingout.

Hang in there! Thanks man. We all do what we can.

Today's a rest day. Tomorrow's shoulders, maybe abs. Depends on what my workout partner wants to do (if he shows up).

Diet: sucks, I ain't posting that crap.

Have you thought about seeing a sports massage therapist ?? Although somewhat costly, they will be able to diagnose your injury and perhaps any further damage that you may have overlooked !!!

Anyway, just a thought...they have done wonders for me:).

You are very wicked for not posting diet...thats a cop out dudetuttut .

btw..I have not heard much of those bands you referred to. Most of the alternative stuff i love are Aussie bands which you probably wouldnt know....Anyway, guitar's ROCK !!!

Franjipani: I highly doubt that I'll see a doctor or anything. I'm not too sure insurance would cover it and at the moment I don't have the money to do it.

My diet was good just minus some calories. Chicken hoagie, chicken breast and brown rice, spagehitti, pre and post workout shakes, one weight gainer shake. I should have at least 2 more meals, hopefully 3. It was only around 2500-3000 calories. Pitiful for me.

What are some of the bands you listen to? I'd like to listen to some other countries' bands. I've heard some Japanese heavy metal before. Pretty interesting.

RyanLucretia is my favorite song. The old stuff still rocks.

This is something that I have always been fearful of, damn. If I ever got seriously injured where I couldnt workout I would go friggin' insane I think. I dont know I just cant imagine getting to that point. I always warmup and stretch a lot between sets and everything like that. Just trying to stay injury-free. Good luck getting back to the weights man.

Not related to training, but damn, you can play that? You must be good. Later on in the song, it gets really fast. I just started playing guitar (mostly classic rock) and I love it. I'm getting better each day. I saw your pictures from page 1 and you look great. Keep it up man.

GG: I hear what you saying. I normally am a very patient man but this is killing me. Rest is all I can do though.

Arc'Teryx: I can play the whole song for all but about 4 measures somewhere in the middle. Its not really hard but like you said it gets real fast. Its probably the one song I've worked the most at to play. Well worth it though. I'm not real good but if I find something I like I become obessive about it. That's the only way I learned to play it. Keep playing and it all comes in time. Thanx for the compliments too.

Shoulder day. I'm not a big fan of it but I do it anyway. I like giving a day just for chest and a day just for shoulders. I feel rushed trying to do both on the same day. My triceps were a bit sore from Wednesday doing chest. Normally I do chest on Tuesday so I have another days rest in there so that may be why most of my lifts suffered today.

DB seated press
70x10
80x4
95x4 (Should have gotten 6. Last rep looked stronger than the 1st ones)
85x6 (easy)

CG Upright rows
95x10
135x10
145x8
Much better form on these than before. Some good sets.

Reverse cable flyes
50x10
50x10
45x12
I can't ever seem to find a heavy weight that works for my rear delts. If I can't do 10 reps then I can't do correct form for even 6. Must be a mind set.

Free motion seated cable press
150x6 (full stack, nice PB for reps)
150x6
150x4, 120x4, 90x4, 60x6, 40x8 (nice heavy drop set)
Hehe, training partner said I'd have to start doing those one handed next since I hit the bottom of the stack. (Nice bust of the ol' ego. Just what I need. That gets me in trouble in the gym, i.e. ham pull)

DB front raises
25x10
25x10
30x10
Bah, I don't like these.

Reverse pec-deck thingy (don't remember the name, handles thingy)
120x10
120x10
120x10, 100x10, 80x10, 40x4(static reps) (dropped set)

Cybex shoulder press
190x4, 150x4, 120x4, 90x6, 60x8 (drop set)

Pretty piss poor workout. I have a hard time really feeling anything in my shoulders. They were fried after the second set of DB presses, but just sort of dwindled after that. I need some Mojo to do these. Just not feeling shoulders, physically or mentally.

Best song today: "Wait and Bleed" -Slipknot
Today this was the song I listened to the most during my workout. I have a CD I've made that I listen to while I workout. I change the CD about every 2 weeks. Who knows what it'll be next time.

Rob: Heh, just doing my job. Don't worry about that because when it comes to legs, believe me, you've got me. I can almost bench as much as I can squat. Tell me how pathetic that is. Though I can deadlift 315 for reps I can't squat it once. So many years of polevaulting got my upper body pretty strong. Now I just need to work on the bottom.

Ahhh, the weekend. I loathe the weekends for the simple fact that my diet goes straight to hell. It was rainy and wet all weekend so I didn't do a damn thing but sit around on my postier end.

I've been putting the heating pad to my hamstring and man its feeling great. No pain at all at anytime. Its still a little stiff so I'm going to give another week with no direct nor indirect work.

I'm getting lots of sleep so I'm going to be really psyched up to workout on Monday. I'm thinking its going to be one hell of a pull-up marathon. Some rows for good measure but I'm getting ready for lots of pull-ups.

The new Saliva CD rocks btw.

One of the few things that I coming to despise is the Monday gym crowd. They show up one day and then they don't return until the following Monday. People crowding the gym taking up everything. Fighting out in the parking lot for the close spaces. WTF is up with that! You come to the gym to get on the treadmill and run but yet you won't a front row parking space because you are afraid to walk an extra 10 feet. Retarded idiots, all of them. My only saving grace is amongst all this commotion and turmoil, amongst all these throngs of people, there is nobody in the power rack. The only one we have and its completely devoid of anybody. Gathering dust yet rays of light shine down from the heavens proclaiming its glory and yet its overlooked as a relic of medevil torture and none will partake of its unexplained glory.

I love the power rack, but yet while I'm there a group of guys aske me how many sets I have left. I tell them 5 because I know they just want to do curls. Let them do it in the squat rack when the other guys gets done doing (get this) squats. Somebody was using it for its intended purpose but yet someone whats to come up after him and defile it. Pisses me off to no end.

On to today's workout:

Wide grip Pull-ups and bent-over rows
I alternated between these. Not really a superset but less rest in between than normal.

+45x6, 95x10
+55x6, 135x10
+70x4, 185x10
+90x4 (CG chins), 225x6
+70x6 (CG chins), 225x6 (underhand grip)
+45x6, 195x8
+25x7 (3 BTN, 4 front), 185x8
+15x8 (4 BTN, 4 front), 185x8 (underhand grip)
BWx10 (6 BTN, 4 front), 135x10(3 second hold)
BWx8 (4 BTN, 4 front), 135x10(wide overhand grip)

seated hammerstrength chest supported row
4 sets here but I don't remember the weights, this was just sort of blah

assisted pull-drop sets
2x (-40x10, -60x10, -80x10, -100x10)
These really help to create that mind muscle link for the lats. Drop sets rock too.

I was going to do some straight arm press downs to hit the serratus but there were still too many people around to even think about find a place.

Chest and arm monkeys taking up every single cable press down machine in the gym, and there are a ton of 'em too. Why does everybody feel the need to do chest and arms on monday? I did not see another person in there doing anything but chest, besides me and the guy who was doing squats when I first got there. Simple amazing. Our gym has 6 flat benches, 3 incline, 1 decline and they were all in use. Along with all the flat benches and incline benches in front of the dumbbell racks. Absolute insanity.

Song for today: "Trippin" -Godsmack

I sure wish it was like that at my gym. Most people here use the power rack so they don't have to deadlift 55 pounds to get the bar in position for upright rows or bicep curls.

I love the power rack, but yet while I'm there a group of guys aske me how many sets I have left. I tell them 5 because I know they just want to do curls.

Ryan: Hehe, those 55lbs. deadlifts are just too much for guys that don't have any leg strength to lift them up.

MonStar: That was pretty intense. No rest between chins and rows and probably not more than a minute between rows and chins (next superset). It was fun to say the least.

ectx: Hehe, all you arm monkeys. j/k I just get upset because they only come in on mondays. I guess they feel bad about the weekend and decide that one day in the gym will be worth it.

About the chins and pull-ups, I can pull alot more CG. CG helps activate the bi's a little more and stresses the middle back a little bit more. The chins are underhanded and pull-ups are overhanded. Underhanded grip just gets easier.

Where I grip the bar when doing wide grip is pretty wide. Its probably just a couple inches from the edges of the power rack. Right where the grip ends. That wide, 70lbs is the most I've ever done. 4 was more than I expected to get.

But now that you mention it I'll have to try 90 next time to see if I can pull it wide grip.

How was the weekend dude?

MonStar: Hehe, I love 'em to begin with plus they really seem to help. I used to get some crap about 'em from some of the other guys in the gym. But after a couple months and I was making gains and they were still doing the same thing they really didn't bother me about it. I told 'em it would help but some people are too stubborn to try anything new.

ectx: I probably would do that too but since I don't have a specific arm day I just toss 'em in there on back day. They still seem to pull on the back a little too. I just love doing pull-ups in any shape or form. Good to hear about the weekend too. LOL @ not being journal rated.

BB: Getting quite abit better, thanx for asking man. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about my leg. It feels about 98% healed maybe even 100% but I don't want to push it, yet I don't want to not do anything if it healed. I may do some light quad and calf specific training later this week and see how it reacts to that. No pain and today its not even stiff. I didn't even feel lugging around the DB's while I was doing bench today. I was basically deadlifting 230 and still didn't feel it but I'm still hesitant. I'm itching to try though.

MonStar
11-19-2002, 08:41 PM
LOL---aint that the truth man! All the guys in my gym used to be like, "man youre defeating the entire purpose of working out!" I used to be like, "nah its good for you postworkout." Bla bla bla. They never believed me. Never will. Stubborn a*sholes.

Anyway man you should seriously consider giving rack pulls a shot. Basically deadlifts from knee level or an inch or two below knee level. I would really enjoy competing with you on them & bentover BB rows. That would be great.

I am sure that you could pull a good 500 lbs. for a single on your first time ever doing them. They completely take your legs out of lift and a lot of the lower back stress out of the lift. Mainly hits your traps, grip, and I feel it a LOT in my midback.

Lost a pound, what's up with that. Anyway...

DB incline press
70x6
90x3
115x6(.5)
105x8

dips
90x6
135x6
115x5
90x6
70x6 (facing the other way)

Paused bench
185x3
185x3
185x3
I figured I'd give this a shot. For some reason the last rep always seemed to have more speed than the first 2. Go figure. I'll probaby try 195 next time. Pause was for 3-4 seconds at the bottom without releasing tension. Should I rest it on my chest or keep the tension tight at the bottom before trying to explode up?

close grip bench[b]
135x10
155x10
165x8
I really felt the last few reps in my triceps.

[b]incline flyes
20x10
40x10
50x8
Form was tough to keep on those last reps. My triceps could barely keep my arms straight. Tough but good squeeze.

Hammer Strenght IsoBench
180x8
230x4, 180x5, 140x6, 90x8 (drop set)

dips
45x8, 35x8, 25x6, BWx6 (drop set)
I love dips. Can't ya tell?

Song of the day: Ten Ton Hammer -Machine Head

Rant time: Now I don't want it is with some people but you had better be using your turn signals. Nothing sets me off and gives me a worse case of road rage than somebody not using their turn signals. They are there for more than just looks and so you can have another little lever next to your steering wheel. They help to let others know what your intentions are. How hard is it to flip a lever to signal to others what you are donig? Let them know what you are doing and there won't be any confusion as to what's going on. It seems petty and if this is the only thing I've got to worry about then life is hunkey dorery, but its just one of those little things that gets to me real quick.

Okay, I'm done.

With that...
The gym was absolutely packed again tonight. What is going on? New Year's resolutions aren't here yet. I'm afraid to think what its going to be like come New Year's. More people means more cuties but then again the cardio room is too far away from the free weights to get a good look at anything. Oh well, maybe in few years when I start my cut and am doing cardio then I'll see more.

135x6

Some totally awesome strength here on the dips HY, nice job man---seriously. Keep up the hard work man. Were definitely going to be competing for BB rows. Either first one to 275x3 or first one to 315x3. Obviously 275x3 first. ;);)

Yep...what up with that? I go in today...and it was as packed as it gets on Monday's...and it's not even January yet. This annoys me to no end. LOL @ the cardio cuties. I chose my old gym purely based on cardio cuties...plus at that time I was a long distance runner, so the weights I touched then were purely for sh*ts and giggles. Kind of like a "look...I'm kinda sorta weight training"...nothing but cable machines and full body workouts....oooooh, I'm so cool. Anyway...the cardio cuties were hot though.

You really are a dip junky. 4 heavy sets at the beginning, and then drop sets at the end. You're nuts. Awesome though. Really.

MonStar: Thanx man. I'll move rows to my first movement to really give them priority. I need to switch things up anyway. I love doing chins and pull-ups but a little variety never hurt anyone.

ectx: I think people are trying to get a headstart for the holiday's. I hope this isn't a fad or something and the New Year's is going to be even worse. Well it could have its good aspects. I'm looking for dipping dudette (a DD). A cute woman to do dips with me, that's what I need. Hehe, more people the higher the chances of that. Wouldn't that be just awesome. I ain't holding my breath though.

Diet for today:

Pre w/o: protein shake and yogurt
Post w/o: sweet tart, protein shake, vitamins
Post w/o #2: heavy weight shake
Meal 1: Super Chop burger
Meal 2: Tuna Salad
Meal 3: 2 Bojangle's Sausage Biscuits
Meal 4: 2 turkey sandwiches on whole wheat
Meal 5: get-big-quick shake

A few more calories today than yesterday. Tomorrow will suck though. I always have a rough time eating all that on off days.

Thats what I am doing HY, so I now were definitely both on the same level here. Both doing BO rows first in our routines, etc. I am going to go heavy as f*ck tomorrow. Jeez.

Well I went ahead and decided to do legs today. I wanted to see how my hamstring was going to hold up and honestly, it went well. No pain though it did seem a little stiff. For some reason my adductors are really tight and caused me some discomfort. I think I will put lunges first in my routine next time to help work that problem out before I start doing squats. Onwards:

squat
95x10
135x10
185x8
225x6
I didn't try anymore than that just to keep things light and make sure that my hamstring could handle it. Like I mentioned above my adductors hurt but other than that, these felt really light. Depth here wasn't ATF but it was deep. Quite a few inches below parallel.

Standing calf-raises
100x12
120x10
140x10

Seated Hammer Strength Donkey calf-raise push thing?
I still don't know what this machine is called.
180x10
270x10
360x10

SLDL
95x10
135x10
185x10
135x12 (really emphasizing contractions)
These again were done real light. Felt good. I got a slight twinge on one of them but it went away real quick. Hamstring is definitely tons better.

Leg extension
100x10
150x10
200x10
200x8, 175x4, 150x4, 100x6 (major ass-kicking drop set)

That's it. I didn't want to push it anymore. Not too bad. We'll see how it feels in the morning.

Warm?! I'm always hot and ready to go...

oh wait...

oh, you meant for workingout.

Yeah, today I was extra careful. I always warm up appropiately, though I just don't mention the warmup in my journal. Its there though, about 10 minutes worth of it.

Cool down usually consists of me in the locker-room sitting down trying to keep my pre-workout shake down. Hehe, I love a tough workout.

Now you're the tease. I have an affinity towards older women. ;)

My wheels are about to go through the shock month of December. I've done this once before where I worked legs twice a week for a couple weeks and in 2 weeks they're about to go through it again. I'm going to take it light for 2 more weeks and then well see how the rest treated them.

Heavy lunges and squats are what the doctor ordered.

I may have to find a better time to go to the gym and try to superset those.

I need more calories in my diet before I start that though.

Awesome. Looks like you had a great workout. Be conservative on it for a while. After I was finally well with my MCL injury I decided to run three miles and ended up reinjuring myself and had to put off training another 4 months. Just remember that. Looks like you're being careful though so ace. Leg injuries suck. I've had my share of them. Amazing how the body recovers though.

Nice leg session HY.

Curious man you dont have any kind of lower back problems do you? Because rack deadlifts put a bit of stress on your lower back. They take your legs out of the lift completely but push a lot of the stress on your lower-mid back, etc.

Also what is your personal best EVER for bentover rows?

WillKuenzel

BB: LOL, by then I'll probably have an affinity for girls my own age. But there's nothing wrong at all with the young ones. LOL, the thing about it at my age now, the young ones probably aren't legal. Hehe, jail bait is not cool.

ectx: I know what your saying. Oh, I'm definitely taking it easy. I'm wanting to compete with MonStar towards some bent over row and rack deadlift weight so I don't want push things too hard just yet. Moderation is the key.

MonStar: At the moment 225x6 is my best but I've been doing that for awhile. When I was about to start moving up I pulled my hamstring. Its not directly worked in doing rows but it acts as a stabilizer a little more than I realized. So last 2 workouts were a little precautionary. But don't you worry I'll be rowing 275 pretty quickly. :)

Nah, no back problems here. I lived on a farm for years, so all the hard manual labor my dad had me doing help me build up a fairly strong lower back. It can take a beating.

Probably the next 2 weeks will be fairly conservative but watch for the weight to jump up pretty quickly after that. I'm going to push my hamstring too much just yet to be sure, but I will be rowing more than you ;) (you might have me on rack deads but we'll see).

Well see is right HY. Good luck with it man, hopefully youll get your bentover rowing strength up fast. I think that I will too. My rack dead strength is decent---but nothing spectacular I dont think. I would much rather be in the mid-600s but I am not, yet. ;);) Well see what happens man. I'd like to be in that same neighborhood but to tell you the truth I really have no idea. I really don't set goals on myself like that. The way I lift dictates what my goals are going to be from workout to workout but not really anything beyond that. My growth has never really been steady, I take it in spurts.

For me really short term goals are more beneficial. Getting a few more pounds here, a few more reps there. That's pretty much the way I operate. I don't to set goals and then be either trying to overachieve and not reach it (and then feel bummed out) or set my goals too low and sell myself short.

I wish I knew more but that's always seemed to work for me. I strive for poundage but don't really set timeframes. If something happens (i.e. a pulled hamstring) it kind of sets things back. I still have plenty of time but I always know that I'm pushing myself to my limits and beyond. That's what drives me.

Ehh, I don't know. Whatever it is by then, I'm just thinking it'll be more than you. ;) (I hope, hehe)

I understand what youre saying completely HY. That is really the best way to go about strength gains to be honest man. Simply because you never really do know whats going to happen. I mean in all honesty no one knows. Hard to determine whats going to happen.

At this point I honestly cannot tell at all. I mean I would love to come up with some kind of magical solution at this point, but I cannot. With this way of resting I set a few new PBs on back day but that doesnt mean anything really. At least I dont think. I am going to stick it out though and see what happens in the future with this way of recovery.

WillKuenzel
11-25-2002, 11:01 PM
LOL, I'm just getting into work. I work nights so I post late. My schedule is pretty much 12 hours opposite of most. Hehe, morning time for me is 5pm.

The workout:

Warmup
dips and chins supersetted (2 sets, 10 a piece)

T-bar rows:
90x10
135x10
160x8
90x12
AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!! Some fools are curling in both racks so I can't get to do rows first. Both with like 8 sets left. I'm royally pissed off but I just ask to work in on the pull-ups.

Wide grip pull-ups
BWx10 (BTN)
+60x4 (Bah!!)
+60x6 (Better)
+45x6
+25x8 (6 BTN, 2 front)

Bitch finally cleared out of rack so I could do rows!!

Bent Over Rows
135x10
255x4 (+2 cheat reps, 6 total)
225x6
135x12
Better but since they're 3rd in the routine I would have hoped not to cheat to get the last 2 reps. Oh well progress is progress.

I really don't remember what all we did next. I think there was some close grip pull-downs and some shrugs but I'm still so disoriented I don't remember. It was a long weekend.

6 hours sleep in like 60 hours over the weekend. Some friends came to visit so I had to switch schedules and missed sleep there, plus we stayed up late got up early. It was one hell of a great weekend though. I really didn't notice the lack of sleep until this morning right before I went to bed. Good friends, good music, and lots of alcohol. The last time I even got the least bit tipsy was over 6 months ago and I hadn't been that drunk in over a year. (Not enough to worship to porcelain god though.) Needless to say it was good to unwind for a while.

Now I just need to get more sleep. The drop of 2 pounds means something.

Really looking forward to what kind of weight you pull. I am assuming that you have a power rack in your gym correct? Mine are set on 22 I believe. Which is right about where my knee starts from my chin. Approximately. Obviously you wont be exact. But lets make this fair. Nothing at the top of your knee or anything like that.

Curious to see how much you pull your first time on rack deads. I think I only got like 365-375 on my first time. Got to 405 quickly and then 455 even more quickly. 455 was where I plateaued though so I stopped doing them. Got back into them and pulled 545x1, and then 555x1, and this Friday hopefully 565x1. That will be friggin' great.

Good luck with the rack pulls HY---youre going to need it since youre going to be up against at least a good 585x1 by January 1, 2003. ;);)

I should be able to pull at least 405 and maybe even 455 because I've done shrugs (picking it up from about the same position) with that before so 495 might not be that far off from what I can do on my first attempt. From there its just a hop, skip and a jump away from 585. 5 workouts and adding 20lbs. each workout is very possible. Maybe even 25 each workout. I may be able to go further 585.

But then again I may need that luck. We'll see. Good luck on Friday!

Anyway man yeah good luck to you too. Hopefully youll be pulling 585x1 by January 1, 2003 along with me. I have a feeling that Ill get there within the next few weeks. Yeah my workout suffered yesterday from the lack of sleep. It'll take a couple of days to recover completely. I'm still dead tired.

Okay today was chest day and I was not feeling it at all. I'm still tired and I didn't sleep too well today. Excuses, excuses. Today was terrible.

Incline DB press
115x5(.5) *AARRGGHH!! Freakin pitiful!!*
105x6
I should be doing the 115's 7 to 8 times. I'm freakin about ready to do the 120's and then this. After Thanksgiving the 120's are my bitches. On top of I brought the DB down wrong and busted my quad. Normally I can get the DB down so that it doesn't hurt but this came down, hit my quad, and left a nice knit design in red marks of what my shorts look like.

Dips
145x4(.5)
135x4
115x5
90x5 (turned around)
70x8 (turned around)
Completely pissing me off. I should have just quite at this point.

Incline BB press
225x3 (+2 assisted)
155x6 (paused)
135x8 (last 4 paused)
Like I said I should have just quite after dips.

I think I did some cable flyes and something else. Oh yeah, and abs. Nothing worth writing home about.

Workout sucked but I did have a guy come up and ask me to be a bouncer at his club. That made me feel pretty good considering I still see myself as I looked in high school (all 130lbs of me). I thinking it would be interesting to try for a while. If nothing else it made me feel a little better about myself after such a poor workout. Alright I'm done feeling sorry for myself.

MonStar: Inclines have always been strong for me. After years of pole vaulting my upper body, especially chest and shoulders, got strong. That's also one of the reasons my legs are so lagging. My inclines are probably just as strong if not stronger than my flat bench.

Franji: Sometimes the best compliments come from strangers. People that don't know you and say something that completely catches you off guard. Its nice.

ectx: What? C'mon man give me some sympathy here. Hehe, nah. I just wanted another rep or 2. Well maybe after this weekend of rest and good eating next week will be different.

Most of the pictures I've seen of me is from high school and that's sort of the image that has stayed with me. There are times when I glance in the mirror and see progress but those times are few and far between. So when somebody actually says something about my size it just seems really weird.

I never would have thought you were once fat. You eat pretty good and don't seem to be too concerned about gaining some weight. When did you lose all the weight?

Workhorse: Hey man thanks for stopping in. You must not have seen my leg workouts. That's the one area that really embarasses me. I can almost bench as much as I squat. How sad is that? I'm working on it though. Thanks for the support man!

G: Like I mentioned above, I wish my lower body lifts were in proportion with my upper body lifts. I'm still trying to catch anybody on squats. Come on back in on leg day and harass me about my pansy squats. I just love doing dips though. My dad had me doing them long time ago, so they are just fun for me. +200 here we come!

I'm so pissed!! The gym closed eary today and because of my schedule I couldn't get in before it closed. Well, I reckon I'll just have to lift at home over the break. I'm going back up to the boonies to see the family for a couple of days. Maybe I can get my dad to workout with me in our home gym. Looks like my first attempt at rack deads will have to wait until Monday, but they will happen on Monday.

Happy Thanksgiving everybody!

I thought today was your leg day with the rack deads? Did you end up getting around to working out or nah?

Well I'm back. I had a nice break. Its different trying to adjust to a daytime schedule and then back again over a couple days but its was all worth it. Lots of food with family and friends. You can't beat that. My best friend from California was in for the holiday. I got to workout with him on friday and do some shoulders. It was more just us hanging out in my dad's home gym but it was still cool. We worked out, had some food, played some video games and shot some guns. What more could you ask for?

MonStar: I may be just a little behind you on rack deads. Nice job on those. Sounds like those are coming along real quick. Today was back and I did get to 'em but I'm quite a ways behind you in those but bent over rows may be quite a bit closer. I'll update in just a little bit.

Rob: LMAO, I don't think that would ever happen. I think my dad would beat me into the ground for even suggesting something like that.

Okay HY, its all good man. Glad that you ate a lot and had fun on your break, thats whats important. Anyways yeah my bentover rows are at 275x4 and my rack deads are at 585x1. So well see what happens man.

I'm going to change my workout schedule around. I'm still so tired on Monday's after switching to a daytime schedule on the weekends that I think my Monday workouts are suffering. I'm not sure how I'll be doing it but I'm not going to be workint out of Monday's anymore, unless I can keep my schedule over the weekend which is just about impossible.

Wide grip chins:
+70x6
+45x6 (3 BTN & 3 to the front)

Bentover Rows:
255x7
225x8
Nice and easy. Should have been more but last week those were pretty tough.

HS pulldowns:
180x10
230x6
230x6

shrugs:
225x10
275x10
315x10

rack deads:
405x1
495x1 (strapped)
These really worked my lower back. I think its definitely a weak spot for me. My grip will need alot more work if I'm to do these much heavier.

Assisted pullups dropsets:
2 drop sets

I wanted to do some hamstring work but I was fried after this workout. My grip is lacking and even though I did get more chins out at that weight it seems to be stagnating. Monday's are just tough days.

I'm not exactly thrilled about not working out on Monday's but I think I need that extra day in there to get back to my night schedule. I'm not exactly sure how I'm going to be doing the routine if it'll be tues-fri or tues, wednes, and then fri, sat. Something to ponder.

I actually moved my routine to go from Tuesday to Sunday and use Monday as a rest day because Monday's were bad for me and were usually crowded at the gym. Now it's Tuesday arms, Wed. legs, Friday chest, Saturday back...wash rinse and repeat. I think you'll benefit from the change. I know I like it. It feels a little weird at first, but it works.

I'm thinking that's about the way I'm going to go. Normally I've got something going on over the weekends and don't like to workout then but I may have to get it figured out that I can. I may even break down and combine chest and shoulders. I've been reluctant to do that but I may just start working out 3 days a week... nah, I think I need to workout more often than that. If I thought I could get away with it, I'd workout 7 days a week.

Ahhh, life's just too complicated.

There ain't nothing gone wrong today. Nothing could go wrong today. I'm absolutely stoked. Great workout! Incredible euphoria. Life ain't getting much better than this. Just one of those days where everything is going my way.

DB Incline press:
80x10
100x3
120x4 (I made these my bitch!!)
110x6

120's were mine! I own them. I'm taking 'em home and mounting them above the mantle.

Dips:
90x3
150x4 (booyaaa)
115x6
90x6 (facing other way)

Decline BB bench:
185x3
225x6
225x5

HS incline press drop set:
230x6, 180x6, 140x5, 90x8

I did some flyes and one drop set of triceps but that was all just accessories. I think I did some abs too.

Just a great workout. I was kind of upset about my workout yesterday so I was pumped today.

rack deads:

Awesome man, good work. I am impressed with your strength on the both of these exercises. 255x7 is friggin' great. I am not sure if I could get 255x7 or not. I got 250x7.5 I believe. And then 275x4.5---damn were close in strength! Rack deads look like youre only pulling 405x1. Shame. 495x1---straps. tuttuttuttut Must we review the rules again? LOL, I am just messin' with ya man. Good job.

Dips:

Does this change the movement much?
Surprisingly it does. The dip station we have has angled bars, both horizontally and vertically so you can alter how far out your arms are and then if you turn around you can change how your hands are slanted on the bars. Doing them one way uses both chest and triceps fairly well and the other way stresses more the chest.

It has to do with the way I lean when I'm on the bars. Facing normal my thumbs are slanted down and I lean back alittle more so I use both triceps and chest about the same where facing the other way, my thumbs are slanted more up and I lean way over. This way it seems to stress the lower chest more(i know, i know, but i didn't say isolate :) ). I particularly feel it more in the middle towards my sternum.

LOL, at the straps comment. I thought it would be best to mention that so you wouldn't think a legitimate lift. I'm workin on my grip so hopefully that won't be an issue.

Thanks on the compliments man! I'll get those rack deads up there soon enough.

Yeah good luck with your grip on the rack deads! Grip can be a big damn factor man, I am telling you. It was definitely a factor with me. I dont know how my grip strengthened all the sudden. I am really feeling like I am not going to pass 600 lbs. much by 2003. I am not sure just yet but I really feel like I am starting to pleateau. Grip and strength wise unfortunately. Well see what happens. I am really shooting for 285 for a double or triple when I do my next Pull session.

WillKuenzel

I doubt your plateauing. Your making too much progress for that to be happening just yet. If you're doing 585 now you shouldn't have any problems getting over 600 in less than 3 weeks, especially with the way you are progressing in everything else. I'm doing more direct grip work now so hopefully it'll pick up soon. 275 should be my next attempt at bent over rows. I'd like to 4-5 clean ones but we'll see. Good luck and I'll be reading your journal.

Ok, I didn't really do that but it would have been fun.

Well I was going to break down today and do a curl jockey day, but with the weather I'm stuck at the house until the ice clears up. My arms weren't feeling it as much as they normally do from back and chest days and I thought I would blast 'em pretty good. Just not meant to be. Oh well, maybe next week.

You know its gotta be bad if I'm not going to the gym, and if I can't get to the gym then I can't get to work. Bummer right? Hehe, yep. At least about the gym part. So for at least one evening I'm at home, downloading some music and waiting out the ice.

BB: Hows the weather down that way. Its getting better here. We may be without power for awhile though. They are saying probably 3 days. I may have to get out of town for the weekend. I have some friends in Charleston I haven't seen in a while.

Ryan: Things got pretty bad. Down trees all over the place on top of the roads being too bad to drive on. Some crazy stuff. They said that in a span of 2 hours there were over 100 accidents here in Charlotte. Some crazy people out there driving. I'd be more afraid of the other people driving than anything else.

Franji: We'll I've had some great help in picking out some new bands. I'm pretty stoked about this new stuff.

MonStar: I like the underhand grip too but I like the overhand grip better for stressing the lats more. I can pull more with the underhand but overhand just hits the back more for me. My workout partner likes underhand though. He says he feels them more. I guess its different for different people. I've got the weekend and then Monday is back day again.

Calvinator: Hey man, thanks for stopping by! I've changed a few things up and my diet has gotten a little bit better. Every little bit helps. Thanks for the compliments!

Well it was an interesting evening for me to say the least. They rain set in and as soon as it was hitting the ground it was freezing. I cooked a couple hot meals and set in for the evening. I setup home base in the living and started playing final fantasy 10 on my PS2. Great game btw. Long about 2am the power started flickering. I decided that if it was going to go I'd better be prepared. I started a fire in the fireplace and brought my reading books down from upstairs. I got some pillows and laid out on the couch playing video games. Nice roaring fire. Some hot soup and toasted cheese sandwiches. I was set. Bring it on baby!

Long about 4am. The power goes. All that was left was the orange glow of the fire. Let me tell you, there ain't nothing more relaxing than laying on the couch listening to the snap and pop of the fire while watching the orange flames create dancing light and shadows on the walls that fight and mingle in a mesmerizing dance. While I was sitting there on the couch deciding what I was going to do I heard the loudest bang. I thought some idiot was out in the neighborhood shooting his gun. I heard a long trail after it and realized the trees around the house were breaking and falling down around me. I kept expecting one to come crashing through the ceiling and nail me in the head. Well none did. I picked up one of my books and set to reading. I doze off and wake up around 6 with some light beginning to show outside.

I bundle up and head outdoors. Trees down everywhere. About 3 or 4 coming within just inches of hitting the house. One limb was sticking straight up. It was buried about 2 feet in the ground. It would'be skewered anything underneath it. Down the road leading out of the neighborhood there were about 8 trees laying across the road on a stretch of about 75-100 yards. Most trees were still bent over and some still breaking. I decide I'd seen enough and head back in to get some sleep before trying to get to work tonight. I chop up some more wood for the fire and take it in so I can keep the fire going while I'm asleep so it doesn't get too cold in the house.

I wake up. Still no power. Fire has died out and I decide I'm going to the gym. I don't call I'm just going on luck that they'll be open. I get my stuff together my the light from an oil lamp. Flashlights just don't help when you're trying to use both hands. I'm ready and I'm heading to the gym. Roads look clear. I guess some guys in the neighborhood got together and helped to clear the roads. Ice has left the roads too. Its still stuck to most things but thankfully its not on the road. I get to the gym. Leg day baby!!

Squats:
warmup
195x3
255x6
225x8
These were alot lighter than I remember. My quads and hams are tight but not hurting.

SLDL:
135x10
2225x8
185x10
Hams still tight but thankfully not hurting.

Cybex Standing Calf-raise:
10x10
15x8
15+10lbsx8
The 10 and 15 are just the stack numbers. I don't know what that is the equivalent of.

Walking BB lunges
135x12 (6 each leg)
165x12 (6 each leg)

Some more calf work and I'm done. That's the toughest leg workout I've had since I'd pulled my adductor and hamstring. Strength's starting to come back.

Well I'm just sitting here at work hoping the power has come back on at the house by the time I get back. I'm not holding my breath considering half the city and the surrounding areas are with out power. They're telling some people that they won't get power back until Monday. At least the gym's open. It may be time to take a road trip outta town until they get this straightened out.

Is this your first time, or are you replaying it? If you are playing it for the first time, be sure to substitute in all your characters for every battle. (so they all get experience). Also, later in the game, be sure to use weapons that capture enemies. It will save you a lot of time if you ever want to do all the optional stuff in the game.

Glad to see the legs are coming along. Like I said in my journal...I wore shorts yesterday....neener neener. Bwahahahahaaha. It did get a little too cold for shorts today though. Well, at least for short sleeves...haha. To quote another Texan in the forums..."what is this snow you speak of".

ryan: I restarted it. I hadn't finished it but I found few things I wanted to go back and get so I started again. It took me a while to figure out why only 3 people in my party were gaining experience. I finally figured out that they had to have at least one turn in the battle to get the points. Adds a certain level of difficulty if not just plain monotony. Good point about the capture stuff. Can I use Rikku's ability to forge some more powerful weapons that capture or would that be a waster later?

Franji:
You ain't seen nothing yet baby....... Hehe, oh , how I love the sound of that! I would say I could turn you into a southerner but I think I'd like to be an Aussie so we'll shoot for that first.

ec: I was chopping wood outside in shorts and a short sleeve t (although that's coming out from sitting infront of the fire and I wasn't out there long). Thick blood and an above average body temperature keep me pretty warm. My idea of cold is quite considerably lower than most. Though I'd be happy to send you some snow and ice so that you too might know about the wonders of a white christmas. I'll do my little cold and snow dance just for you. That's right. I still don't have power. The gym has a shower so I'm basically living at the gym. There is a Japnaese place right next to the gym so I can get a hot meal and some sushi when I'm done. Its better than trying to fry some eggs in bacon over the open fire back at the house. They saying probably Monday to Wednesday is when the power will be back. It ain't thrilled about dealing with the weekend without power. Its all pissing me off enough that I had a pretty good workout today.

I don't really what the poundage of these are since its a stack loaded machine. Still nice and heavy.

I did some front and lateral raises. Along with some rear delt exercies but I ain't feeling up to typing all that out. Oh, and some ab stuff. I treat abs like any other muscle heavy weight low reps. Going to be short and sweet. Power came on, finally. Starting to get back into the normal groove. Good workout.

Wide grip chins:
+70x6
+45x6

Underhand pullups:
+90x7

Deadlifts:
345x2
315x2
225x6 (sumo)

Bent over rows:
275x6 (underhand)
255x8 (overhand with 2 cheats)
225x10
155x10 (ultra wide) SS w/ 155x10 (close underhand)

Some behind the back shrugs and another pulldown were thrown in for good measure. 2 drop sets on the assisted pullup machine and I was done. I was going to get some bi's in but I thought I'd do a nice curl jockey day on wednesday so I held off.

MonStar: I use a close grip. About to the point where my thumbs touch maybe an inch inbetween.

Franji: LMAO, thanks girl. The gym does at least have hot water though by the end of the day most of its gone.

Awesome strength on the deadlifts, and on the bentover rows HY. I am thinking about starting to do full ROM deadlifts. So maybe we can compete in those instead of rack deads? I dont know well see what happens. Seems that youre a bit ahead of me in the bentover row race though 275x6 is friggin' awesome man. I was rowing 285x3 last time I did rows I think. Good work man, really nice strength.

Looking forward to trying full ROM deads for the first time in a long, long, time.

One of these days I'll graduate to full deads. Haha. As always, nice going. Were any of those PR's?

BTW, had a double roast beef sandwich. Sucka.

MonStar: I really like doing full deads. I normally only do them every other week as my back can't quite take the beating of doing those and squats in the same week.

ec: The 275 bent over row is a PR. 345 on deads is a bit behind what I used to do. My hamstring was bothering me a little so I didn't push it too much. You'd better be doing deads soon. If I don't see deads in your journal in a couple weeks, I'll take all your roast beef away, leaving you with nothing but tofu and soy protein. And I know you don't want that. :evillaugh

Double roast beef, heh? Make that one week on those deads. Hehe

Chest day. I's dead tired. Stayed up too late this morning before going to bed. Too much crap going on.

Incline DB press:
80x6
100x4
120x4 (+1 assisted)
110x6
Not much better than last week except it looked prettier. I didn't need much help with the 5th rep so maybe there was some improvement.

Dips:
+150x4
+135x4
+90x6 (facing other way)
+45x10 (ditto)

HS incline press:
180x10
230x6
180x6
140x6

cybex ab machine
12x10
15x6
13x6, 11x6, 9x6 (drop set)

some hanging windshieldwipers, and weighted swiss ball ab work:
blah, ba blah, ba, blah blah blah

Stuff. I'm tired. Decent workout. Abs are tight. I should move abs to shoulder day and add calf work on chest day. Workout flew by. I think I got in the gym earlier today than normal but I can't remember. Oh yeah:

flat db flyes:
2 x 30x3

some other pressing movement
2 sets of whatever

None most of the other stuff doesn't really matter. I only pay attention really to incline db press and dips. Should I even be doing anything else after doing those? HomeYield hungry. HomeYield find food. Food good. DB press good. Needs be better.

Done.

Incline DB press:
120x4 (+1 assisted)

CRAZY strength here HY, damn man, impressive as hell. I am looking forward to doing full ROM deadlifts tomorrow morning. Hopefully Ill pull a good 4 plates on each side. Well see what happens.

HY:

Wondering man it seems that something close to 495x1 is your PB for rack deads, which is awesome. What is your 1RM for regular deadlifts off of the floor? I am shooting for something close to 405 lbs. on deadlifts tomorrow. I am not sure what Ill pull though. Well see what happens I guess. Well race to 495 lbs. off of the floor HY---what about that? :evillaugh:evillaugh

You know Ive got you beat on BB rows, Ill be pulling 3 plates on each side by 2003. Hehe, I hope!

MonStar: That XXL is great for calories. It tastes alright but feels kind of like drinking castor oil. Its real thick. If I take about 30 minutes to drink it my body can absorb most of it but it puts me to sleep like nothing else. I get so sleepy from drinking it. If I have one right after working out its not so bad but if I drink one before going to bed I sleep like a baby.
-My legs are still holding me back from doing much heavier deads. 385 may be all that I could pull at the moment. Its kind of sad considering how strong my uppper body is. Your lower half is definitely stronger than mine so I wouldn't be suprised if you have me there. Now bentover rows may be different. We'll see there.

G'd Up: That XXL is the best damn drink. Almost half a days worth of calories in 30 minutes. Not bad for just $3. Oh yeah, I've learned to spread the duration of consumation. The john and me know each other fairly well. Your strenght will be there before you know it. My seems to be stagnating some so you may have a good chance to overtake me.

ryan: I've always like incline better for some reason. Partly because I don't have to throw that heavy of weight back so far. Incline just seems to be easier for me. I think it may have to do with some added strength in my shoulders.

The Calvinator: Our gym goes up to 150, but those are just sitting there collecting dust. Kind of like the sword in the stone, just waiting for the king to come and pull them about and proclaim to the world just who rightfully deserves to sit upon the thrown. Nah, not really some guys use them for DB rows but rarely. I'd like to see me using those one day. I guess if I ever do run out of DB's though I'll go back to BB.

Today was my arm day for the first time in months. Probably the first time in months that my arms have gotten any sort of direct work. Now I remember why I quite doing this, it just seemed like a waste to me. I put more emphasis on compound lifts. I'm not even gonig to post it I felt so bad during this workout. I was just not motivated at all. I gotta get some more sleep today and get my mind ready for legs. That's the one area where I need to most work. My lack of strength here really pisses me off. If anybody can give me any pointers or advice as to what helped you to get stronger legs please let me know. Whatever I've been doing has not been working.

Dude just progress in your squats. Make a deliberate attempt to add 5 pounds a week or do another rep or 2. You will get there before you know it. I think it will come quickly for you if you just stick with progression. And just pick like 3 exercises to do when you do legs and KILL EM....LOL.

I think part of my problem is I haven't been monitoring my progress and increasing the reps and poundage like I do my other lifts. The exercies I like most are squats, SLDL, and lunges. It was sad, because before I pulled my adductor a couple weeks back, I was doing as much on walking lunges as I was squating. I'll have to start really keeping better track of it. Thanks for advice. Every bit helps.

I think you sell yourself short. Sure your legs may lag in comparison to your upper body, but you have phnomenal upper body strength. So you had a curl jockey day *snicker*. I'm tempted to say you left it out because you knew I'd get payback for all the times you've teased me about mine. LOL. Do any dumb bell kick backs? Bwahahaha. As far as the XXL drink, I kind of make my own mix. It's a lot cheaper too...haha...not anywhere near quite as many calories though. I guesstimate it at 450 calories. I also do one right before and during workout that's not quite as protein rich and it's at 250 calories, so total is 700...kind of close but spaced out. Today I ate steak and salmon, bwahahaha.

Steak AND salmon!! Bastard, that's it, I'm coming after ya! Where's my pop-tart?!

DB kickbacks? My whole routine was based off these and swinging BB curls (in the squat rack too)!! I think I hurt my back doing these curls. I must have leaned too far back. Do you think its bad when I lean back far enough for my ass to touch my ankles? Hehe

I'd be happy to think I could even start to do 770 on leg press, much less 720x12

Damn HY I can tell that this is going to be a close competition. I am not sure if Ill beat ya in the bentover rows, but I think I am going to show you whatsup on the deads. Pulled 455x1 this morning. Shooting for 460-465 2 weeks from today. So well see what happens man.

275x7 though is nuts on BB rows. I am shooting for 295 Saturday morning, for more than 2-3 reps.. hehe. :D:D

ec:I am getting soooo toned. My tri's are pretty sore and my bi's are just a little. But man my back is sooooo sore. What's up with that? Hehe.

MonStar: Damn nice pulling man! It'll be quite a while before I'm pulling that much. I'm way behind pretty much everybody when it comes to leg strength. I'm donig back again on Monday but I think I gonig to power clean this Monday instead of deads. Its been a couple weeks since I have and I'd like to try for 225. I can hang clean 205 but I have a harder time from the floor. I need to work on my form more.

Legs were today. Pretty good session but not anything substantial.

Squats:
255x6
255x5
225x7
No laughing. I'm working on it. You don't have to tell me its sad when I can incline DB press more than I can squat. I know it.

SLDL:
225x10
275x8
135x15

calves:
The standing calf machine doesn't have enough weight. Should I start doing these one legged?

walking lunges:
155x12 (6 each leg)
205x10 (5 each leg)

calves:
Another calf machine. Can't fit enough weight on it. My form is good and I get a good contraction but I just can't get enough weight. I can do 10-12 reps with the entire stack and still not enough. Again, should I just start doing them one-legged?

That's it. I didn't have anything left after that 2nd set of lunges. It was an absolute killer. I didn't think I'd get that last rep up.

On to other even more depressing than my leg workout. If you look at my first couple of workouts, you'll see that my dip strength is stagnate, along with my weight. I haven't gained a pound in 2 months. Water weight varies but that's not my point. Incline DB press and bent over rows are the only things that have progressed. I know what it is too. Its my diet. I just can't seem to eat enough. After having started working nights my diet has absolutely went straight through the floor and to hell. I'm never hungry. I make myself eat and I've never had to do that. I'm just not used to it. Can anybody give me some pointers here? I need to do something and I've run out of ideas. I know a little bit about diets but I really need some serious help here. Something like a time table and a decent bulking diet. I have a good concept of things but I just need to get a few things straight. It boils down to getting my butt in gear and just eating. But its very very hard to try and eat when I'm not hungry at all. Any suggestions people?

Oh how i wish i had that problem!! ;)

Seriously though, working nights??? that really sux! Your "body clock" is obviously outta whack, hopefully it should sort itself out soon enough. *fingers crossed*

Oh and with ya calf raises, instead of doing them one-legged, just get someone (preferably some big, beefy guy) to sit on the weight stack for some extra Lbs!!........... works like a charm! :D

Seriously though, working nights??? that really sux! Your "body clock" is obviously outta whack, hopefully it should sort itself out soon enough. *fingers crossed*Its been almost 3 months now. My sleeping habits having adjusted pretty well its just my eating habits I'm getting concerned about. If I wasn't so dead set on gaining weight. I wouldn't have any trouble doing a nice cut. Oh well, hopefully I'll adjust sometime. Thanks for the support.

That's pretty good idea. If it was donkey calf raises I might not feel so bad about it but the standing calf raise machines are pretty tall and our gym is pretty strict about stuff so they may not like that too much. If it gets too much worse though I may just have to do it anway. Maybe the one of the trainers there can do it. He's a pretty hefty fella. Thanks for mentioning it, I'll have to keep it in mind. LMAO, it'd look pretty funny with me doing calf raises and this huge guy sitting up about 8' in the air sort of bouncing around.

First off...did you buy yourself some pop-tarts? Dammit boy, I'm not giving you mine!

You're too hard on yourself with legs. You're making progress and that's all that matters. In the end, legs will catch up. You just happen to have freaky upper body strenght.

I'd do the standing calf raises with one leg. I had the same problem too. I actually had to super set to feel anything. I also went really high volume. On seated calve raises I'd do 10 sets of 10 with about a 20-30 sec rest and that would fry them too. The other thing I did before doing going one legged was to do 4 sets of 25 with 45 sec. rest intervals. Well, that's just what worked for me. i'm sure you'll figure it out.

WillKuenzel
12-13-2002, 01:40 AM
ryan: I really like doing standing calf-raises as I like the contraction I get there better than seated. If the seated calf-machine we have didn't suck I might use it too, but it just doesn't seem to be really beneficial. Its got some strange angles and the seat moves while you're on it and it just seems to throw you off. At the old gym they had a better one but I was still running out of room to put weights on it too. Calves suck.

The Calvinator: I have pretty much given up on anything stack related. Leg ext, leg curls, calf machines... they all suck.

if your up to it....Whaaa...huh...grrrr......
*goes to check Cal's journal*

ec: Still no pop-tarts. How about some roast beef?

I guess we are our own worst critics.

I really like doing as heavy a weight as I can for 6-8 reps, though it may be time to go back and visit the high volume calf workouts I used to do.

I was doing calf-raises in the smith machine for a while. I'd put one of those aerobic steps in there to step up on and load up the smith machine. When the plastic step buckled so much that I was no longer getting a stretch at the bottom I guess those were out too.
