Alright, I've had several PM's now requesting that I start up a journal and post some pics. I just wish the pic requests had come from girls ;)

Presently, these are my stats:
Age: 22, 23 in 6 days (Oct. 30)
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 198#
BF%: about 10-11%

As of Monday, I started bulking, and my main goal is to get to 210 by Christmas. Now whether this is possible, I have no idea. I have good form on all my excercises, and I hardly ever miss a workout, my biggest problem is nutrition. Now I know this is the MOST important thing for a weightlifter (I'm not a bodybuilder and I'm not a powerlifter, I merely lift weights), but eating is just my biggest problem. I should have put on a ton of weight in the past year, but of course, I haven't because I just don't eat right. I think I've put on about 5-10 pounds this year.

So, these are my goals, by Christmas:
Weight: 210#
BF%: Who cares, I'm bulking!! lol

These are my goals by next June:
Weight:215#
BF%: below 10%

What my daily diet roughly looks like:
NLarge2 for breakfast (about 30g protein - 2/3 of a serving) w/ 5g glutamine at 6:30am
Can of tuna at 9:30am
Lunch at 12:30
Can of tuna at 3:30
On days I workout, I have 30g of whey isolate protein right after I finish in the gym, w/ 5g creatine, 5g glutamine, 35g dextrose
Supper at 7:30pm
Blended protein (about 30g protein) w/ 5g glutamine

Right now, I'm doing a 3 day split of:
Tuesday: chest and tri's
Thursday: legs and shoulders
Saturday: back and bi's

Usually 9 sets of larger muscle group, 6 for smaller muscle group.

You are all welcome to post in here, hell, crack jokes, give me pointers, call me as assface (right Acc??), whatever, this isn't just for me, it's for everyone.

Oh, and here's a quick pic to put a face to the name.

Thanks Star, I'm really hoping to reach my goals, I just hope it doesn't break the bank with the supplements I'm taking :D.

Good luck on all your goals, if you keep at it, you'll get to where you want to be!!!

Thanks DL, I'm gonna do my best!! I live in Calgary, Alberta. (aka Cowtown). Right in the middle of the prairies, but I'm only an hour drive away from the Rocky Mountains!! :D

Where exactly is "Ninja Island"??

PowerManDL

LOL....Ninja Island is a mystical place that is neither here nor there....it exists throughout most of the world....parts of it can be found in Michigan, and in New York, Pennsylvania, and Toronto....as well as down here in Hickvil...er, Alabama, where I am, and my close neighbor Tennessee. We even have reports of it being seen in parts of Europe, mostly near Newcastle, England. It is NOT near France however.

But who can say?

Hey Mr. UNC boy, glad to see you started a journal. How in the world are going to get it all done in a day....work, lifting, eating, getting all your chores done, hockey, hockey coaching and keeping that new play toy happy? :D

Good luck towards reaching your goals you set. EAT!!!!:p

How many people live in Calgary?

p.s. you really do have a great sense of humor. :evillaugh

Well, Work - its slow, so I'm not too busy. Lifting and eating - there's ALWAYS time for those! Nights are full of hockey and chores, and well, the new play toy... she's been around for a while and is actually away doing her practicum for school (Nuclear Medicine) and I only see her for a 5 day weekend once a month. :(

I'm eating as we speak actually... chicken and shrimp fettucine alfredo (homemade - by me!). And as for Calgary, there are 900,000 people here. Although most of them are idiots... I'm a country boy who works in the city.

Well, here we go. My first "workout" post of my journal. My workout sucked and it'll be better next week!!! Now I know I only did like 8 sets for legs, and believe me, this isn't normal!! And I normally don't do 12 sets for shoulders, that isn't a regualr things either. So don't hack on me for it, its not my normal amount of sets etc. :D lol

Here's what I did:
SQUATS:
175x6, 275x12, 295x12 (missed my 3rd work set - will do another set next week like normal)

SLD:
135x10, 135x12, 185x12

STANDING CALF RAISES:
255X12, 255X12, 270X10

DB MILITARY PRESS:
65x8, 65x8, 65x6

TEA CUPS:
30x6, 25x8, 25x10

BENT OVER REV. DB FLYES:
20x8, 20x10, 20x8

45# PLATE FRONT RAISES:
8, 8, 7

There ya go, my first workout for this journal. I didn't do abs because the gym I was at doesn't have anywhere to do them.

WHAT IN THE HELL is a tea cup? This isn't "Workhorse's Sexual Journal", is it? There will be no tea cupping or tea bagging while we're on duty.

Workhorse
10-25-2002, 08:18 AM
LOL... damn leo.... a tea cup? it's a lateral DB raise. When you get to the top (parallel with your shoulder, you turn your thumb down to stress the muscle a little more, and it looks like you're pouring water out of a jug, or "tea into a tea cup". I don't know, I've just always heard them called that.... it's a lateral raise.

The only way this is going to turn into "Workhorse's Sexual Journal" is if Sav, Roxy, Jane, Allie, and Tryska start posting in here!! ;) But hey, that wouldn't be so bad now would it? :D

Alright, I went to the gym on Saturday and it felt pretty good. I'm going to have to bump up some of my weights considering that I got way more than 8 reps donw for some of the excercises. But then again, it feels good to mix it up a little every once in a while.

Here's what I did:
DEADLIFTS:
135x6, 225x8, 315x6, 365x5, 385x3

BENT OVER BB ROWS:
135x8, 185x7, 155x8

WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx6, BWx5

LAT SWEEPDOWNS: (don't know the exact name for this excercise)
110x12, 120x10, 120x9

INCLINE DB CURLS:
20x6, 35x10, 35x9, 35x8

STANDING EZ BAR CURLS:
80x12, 80x7, 80x8

ONE ARM DB PREACHER CURLS:
30x8, 30x8, 30x8

ABS

There ya go, next time I'm going to bump the weights on a few of the excercises. I'll be back in the gym on Tuesday for chest and tri's. Next weekend I might even try for a personal best and go for a 405 deadlift. But I'm not sure, I don't know if I'll be able to do it. Any advice? :)

I would definitely say go for it if you just want to do 1 rep. You are pulling some pretty heavy stuff for reps with 365 and 385. I don't think you will have any problems.

I did 405 Friday for the first time (I may have pulled it once before but can't remember) and it was some heavy ****. :D

I have no doubts you can do it though.

Good luck.

Thanks, I just wish I looked like I could pull that much. I'm glad I'm strong, but I for sure don't look like I can pull up 405. I think I'm going to try it, just for one rep. It's always been a goal of mine, so I really hope I can do it. I think its going to be more of a mental battle than a physical one!! Thanks for the encouragement though, it is greatly appreicated.

Well, I worked out with a buddy of mine yesterday and things went pretty good. He didn't have a lot of time so we worked out fairly fast - my breaks in between sets were basically long enough to change weights and thats it. Normally I get a little longer rest in between sets so you'll notice on some of the excercises that the weight drops with each set, but the amount of reps stay the same. Felt like I had a good workout, so that's all I can go by. Back in the gym tomorrow for legs and shoulders, although some friends want to take me out for wings and beer tonight for my birthday, but I think I'll skip the beer. lol

Here's what I did:
BB FLAT BENCH PRESS:
135x8, 225x6, 275x6, 255x7, 225x8

DB INCLINE BENCH PRESS:
80x8, 80x6, 80x6

CABLE CROSSUPS: (arms go from loweest cable setting up to chest level infront of me)
30x10, 40x8, 40x8

FRENCH PRESS:
95x11, 105x6, 95x8

STRAIGHT BAR PUSHDOWNS:
130x10, 140x9, 140x9

REVERSE GRIP PUSHDOWNS:
110x10, 120x7, 120x7

Didn't do abs because I was so tired.

Well, we'll see what happens tonight for my birthday, who knows... maybe I'll cave in and have a few beers... lol.

Well, I didn't hit the gym yesterday cause my boss gave me his tickets to the Flames game last night. Was sitting 11 rows back from the end glass where Kobasew broke the glass with a heavy bodycheck. It was fvkin' awesome!

So, I'm playing hockey tonight and I don't want to do legs beforehand so I'm going to change up my routine for this week. Rather than doing legs/shoulders yesterday, I'm going to do them Sunday and I'm going to do back/bi's tonight right after work. Sooooo, that means today I'm going to try to pull a 405 deadlift!!! Woo hoo, I'm so pumped to do this!!

Anyways, I'l try to post tomorrow on how my attempt at a 405 deadlift goes, wish me luck!

Well, my workouts this week got screwed up and I missed my shoulder/leg day.... but I didn't miss my back/bi day!!

I did back/bi's yesterday by myself at the gym.

Here's what I did:
DEADLIFTS:
225x6, 315x6, 385x1, 405x2, 315x6

BB ROWS:
135x10, 155x10, 175x7

WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx6, BWx4

LAT SWEEPDOWNS:
130x8, 130x7, 130x6

INCLINE DB CURLS:
35x110, 35x8, 35x8 (will go up in weight next workout)

DB PREACHER CURLS:
30x8, 35x8, 35x9

ABS

So as you see... I pulled 405# twice for deads!! WOOO HOOO!!!

I am so excited... I figure I can pull atleast another 20 pounds if not a little more for my 1RM. All I can say is... KISS MY A$$... lol... j/k. Seriously though, I'm starting to see some good strength gains, now if only I can get my diet under control... I'll start seeing the mass gains too!!

Lat sweepdowns... arms straight out infront of you... holding bar on cable machine... pull down with straight arms towards your quads... you really feel it in your lats. I use it as a finishing excercise.

Oh okay---I understand what you meant WH. I had a feeling that was it. I always heard them called "Stiff-arm Cable Pullovers" or something like that. Oh well. My back routine is damn hard now. Its a bit higher volume (8 total sets) but works well I think.

Rack Deadlifts (from knee level) (2)
BTN Chins (2)
Supported Rows (2)
V-bar Pulldowns (1)
DB Pullovers (1)

That could be the proper name... I wasn't really sure what they were called, I just know that I like the excercise. :D

I can't do BTN pullups... just feels awkward for my shoulders. I'm really starting to get discouraged about my WG Pullups, cause my reps don't go up at all and I just feel like I'm not progressing on that excercise. I wonder if its cause my body weight keeps goingup slowly that I'm naturally adding weight to the lifts!?! Hmm.

I have been thinking about alternating with a Hammer Strength excercise week to week, maybe I'll try it and see if it sparks any growth.

Well, I had a HYOOOGE "discussion" with my buddy yesterday after he read my journal. I found out some things that I wasn't happy to hear, but atleast I know the truth now. He said that I live, eat, and breath training and he felt too pressured to go with me. That's why he had been making excuses not to go, and wasn't really into it when we were there together. I guess he had talked about it to his sister and g/f and that, to me as I see it, explains why they weren't too keen on going either. I like working out with them when they're giving it there all. He's my best friend and I guess I just pushed him too hard to achieve his goals. I know how bad he wants to reach his goals and I was just trying to encourage him, but I guess by asking him all the time if he was coming to the gym, or joking around and giving him a hard time when he cancelled on me just pushed it over the edge. I feel really bad about what's happened and he says that he has different goals than me and that makes it hard to train together. He wants to lose some bodyfat and I'm trying to put on mass. The only reason I was frustrated with working out with him and his sis is because they would cancel or change the schedule more often than I liked. They want the freedom to go whenever they want and not have someone else depending on them to be there if they don't want to be. I understand this, and hell, I like the freedom of being able to go whenever I want too. He said he feels that by going by himself, he feels like he WANTS to go rather then HAVING to go. I understand this, so I guess its ok. I've went back and edited 4 of my posts that discussed these thigns because now that I know the truth about the whole thing, what I said just doesn't apply anymore. I think him and I can get past this, I'm just really worried that his sis and g/f are going to hold this against me. I know Bry is a great friend and I think we'll be fine, I just really don't want to fvck up the friendship with his sis's and g/f!! This worries me!

I'll be doing legs and shoulders tonight, so I'll try to update my journal tomorrow. Anyone out there got any advice for me?

Just work out by yourself Workhorse and work towards meeting your goals. Keep your friendship with him on another level and try not to discuss bodybuilding with him unless he brings the subject up. I know when I go out I try really hard never to mention anything about training because I know all my friends think I'm "overboard" with it too.

I've worked out by myself for 3.5 years. Never had a training partner. I am not saying I wouldn't want one...but he is going to have to lift about the same weight I do and do the same exercises I want to do. If not, I'll continue to work out by myself.

Hope everything works out OK.....but it should.

Thanks for the encouragement Monstar... I am getting a ton stronger, I just wish my body looked like I was that strong. I see guys in the gym that are HYOOOOOOGE and they lift what I do, but I'm WAAAAAAAY smaller. UGH!!

And Bennett, thanks for the support. I know what you mean about working out by yourself, and if I ever do need a spot, there are the regulars at the gym that I can ask. I miss the training partner thing cause its fun to go with someone else, but I'll just keep going it alone. But thanks fo the kind words.

Sorry to here about your boy. But that is usually how it is. My friends crack on me all the time for being so intense about the gym and putting on weight. Sh!t whenever they see me they speak in their Arnold voices. It's cool to be different but you can't push them to be like you. Find a training partner at your gym that is a dedicated as you are. That works real good.

Thanks guys... I agree though, I'm looking into a 4 day routine that give's legs its own day. Any ideas?

I did back and bi's yesterday. Feel like my bi's got a killer workout, but I just can't seem to get my back to feel it. I think I may try some t-bar rows or something. My legs were still too sore from my workout to do deads so I'll do 'em again next week. I normally don't do cable rows but the gym was packed yesterday and I didn't want to wait around for weights.

Here's what I did:
WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx8, BWx6.5, BWx5

CABLE ROWS:
180x7, 180x7, 180x6

BENT OVER BB ROWS:

Forgot to write this yesterday so here it is. Quick story - I bought a new suit on Tuesday and the sales girl that helped me actually just got a pass at the gym I workout at. She flat out asked me if I worked out cause of the alterations I needed. I sure got my ego stroked on Tuesday cause get this, the AVERAGE person has a 7" variation from their waist to their chest. So that is how the suits are sized. I got a 46 jacket and I needed to get the pants taken in almost 7" cause my waist is 32". That means my variation is 14" - DOUBLE the normal person. Man did that make me feel good. I walked out of the change room and the pants were falling off of me. She kinda giggled and made a comment that I had nice Calvin Klein's on... she couldn't help but see 'em. lol So after all that, I felt like a million bucks, and I actually felt bad when I had to leave though cause she asked if I would meet her at the gym one day to "workout". She asked for my phone number but I had to tell her I wasn't single... damn funny but very encouraging for my progress in the gym!! :D

Alright, my workout last night kicked a$$. I now know that the 110's I did for DB bench weren't a fluke last time cause I did 'em again yesterday!

Here's what I did:
DB FLAT BENCH:
70x6, 105x8, 105x8, 110x6*

Well, I'm on a bulk right now and I can see myself losing the definition on my abs :( I fvckin' hate that! I feel like I'm turning into a damn slob even though I know a little body fat isn't a big deal, especailly on a bulk. I think I'm going to cut back the cals though cause I feel like I'm gaining about 3 pounds a week and that's too much too fast and is most likely why I'm looking chubbier around the midsection. :(

I did legs last night in order to get my routine back in order. I did them on saturday so they were still tired and I could tell that they weren't 100%. I ended up doing shoulders before legs because the squat rack was busy when I got there. I hate when that happens!!!

This is funny, you must've been reading my mind... actually GG, I'm taking a one week "rest" over Christmas and when I come back I'm going to try exactly what you just said for about 2-3 months. Excellent point HY, I agree 100%. Starting off with your heaviest workset after your warmups is the best way to hit up some HEAVY weights in the gym. For example in rack deads if I did worksets with 315, 405, 495, and 545, I probably would miss 585. But I jumped right to 585 after some good warmups. Just my opinion.

Ya, I think you're right guys. To be honest, I've always worked out the way I do now. I don't know, its just always seemed good and I've seen reuslts. But I do agree, I think if I do my heaviest workset first, it'll be more than I'm doing now. My gym only goes to 120# DB's, and there's nom 115's, so I think when I start this, I'm gonna jump right to the 120's and see if I can do it. I can't wait to see.... you're seriously making me think about changing over before my Christmas break!!! :D

WillKuenzel

You'll really be surprised at how much the weight jumps up. It'll be like you were just wasting your time with those lighter sets. Find ya a good spotter and have at it. I noticed I got alot stronger and I also gained some weight quick when I started doing heavy weights first. I had to start writing stuff down when I went heavy first because before as I was working my way up I could gauge what I needed to do next. Its different but its definitely worth trying.

I do a set of 10 at some light weight and then I either do one set of 3-4 or 2 sets of 2 to warmup and then its time for the heavy weight. You'll notice a difference, I promise.

Well, I sorta tried the whole "heavy sets" thing, but I think its going to take me a little while to get into the groove and find the weights that'll let me hit 6-8reps my first set. Felt really good though, and I felt like I pushed myself harder by doing this. Maybe I'll see better results?? I hope so, but I think from what I did yesterday and how it felt, I'm going to like it! :D Leg workout felt bloody awesome... shoulders was just ok. I never feel that by doing just 6-7 sets for shoulders that they get a good workout, always feel I need about 8-9. I think I'm going to try a few more set next week just to see. Funny enough too, my knee was sore for the first 2 sets but when I packed on the weight and did my sets, it didn't hurt at all. I wonder that because of the lighter weight, mybody is forcing improper form and putting stress on my knee. Whatever it is, I don't mind cause the heavier I went, the better it felt... Well, I ended up having way to much crap to do on Thursday night before my girl flew in on Friday morning so I missed the gym. I'll be back in tonight for chest/tri's, so I'm happy about that. The weekend was great, love to see her, but now that she's gone I miss her more than I want to admit. It was really hard to eat as good as I should have on the weekend because there were so many things going on, so I'm very interested in seeing how much I weigh today... hope I haven't lost too much weight!!

How's everyone else doing??

Here's a little collage of my girl and I... I'll leave it posted all day. :)

We've been together for a year and a half. Very serious and have been talking lately about marriage. She's "the one" and I've been starting to save for the big purchase of an engagement ring. Gonna ask her dad for her hand, to me, it shows a lot of respect to him and I'm just old fashioned like that. Not sure when I'll talk to him, but it will probably be this spring so we can get engaged by the summertime.

Well, I started going through my journal just seeing how often I train etc and I realized that all the time when I miss a day, I don't just do that day later, I had been skipping it and just going back to the next split in my routine. Well, this can't happen anymore, so needless to say I did back and bi's last night. I had an unbelieveable pump and I have no idea how come it was so awesome, but my arms were so pumped I could barely bend them enough to take off my necklace to have a shower. What an AWESOME feeling!!!! Booya! I'm trying to figure out the numbers to do my heavy sets first, so I'm slowly getting it figured out. I think its going to take a few weeks though.

Here's what I did:
DEADLIFTS:
225x6, 315x4, 385x3**, 385x3**, 385x3**

WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx7, BWx6

HAMMER STRENGTH ROWS:
90x8, 100x8, 100x7

BENT OVER BB ROWS:
185x6, 185x8, 185x8

INCLINE DB CURLS:
40x11, 40x8, 40x7

STANDING EZ BAR CURLS:
80x10, 80x7.5, 80x8

ONE ARM DB PREACHER CURLS:
40x5, 40x6

I had a pleasant surprise today when I stepped on the scale... weighed in at 208.3#. I figured I had probably lost weight over the weekend but I hadn't weighed in since the Wednesday before and I was a couple pounds heavier today. Its probably water or something but who knows... all I know is that when I started bulking 5 weeks ago I was about 198. Now I'm 10 pounds more and I hope to hit a steady 210 by Christmas - that gives me 2 weeks. We'll see. I talked to my g/f and told her since my bulk is going so well I was going to try to get to 215-220 before I started cutting. She wasn't too sure about that idea... she doesn't want me to get "freaky looking" as she put it. She knows I won't be at freaky at about 215 pounds, but I think she's just worried that as I keep seeing gains, I'm gonna wanna be like 260 or something on day. She loves the muscles, she just sees all the pics of the guys in the magazines and worries I'll look like that... I'm a far cry from that now!! lol

Yup, you will. You will want to be 260 and that is fine. As long as you like your gains she will too. Its something everyones gf's tell them...."I just don't wantcha to get too BIG, OK." If you just say all right and keep making the gains they never really notice. I know once I hit 205 then it'll be 225, then 240 and then who knows.

Dang Workhorse, your bulking is going very well. I messed mine up due to weekends, but I doubt you drink much so you probably haven't been affected by that. I never touch the stuff 5 days a week, but when I stay out late and sleep in late it really screws my diet and bulking up.

If your waist is still holding around 32-33 and you are at 208, you will be fine. GG, BCC and others will frown upon this, but I am kind of with ya lady......those freaks look horrible to me. I have no desire to be big like that. If I could ever get to 190-195 and be around 8% bodyfat year round....I would be happy as hell.

That said, if I were younger maybe I would look upon it differently. But being huge isn't a goal of mine.

Keep going bro....you are doing great!

BB: Elizabeth and I actually met at my cousins wedding. I stood up for him at the wedding and his wife is cousins with my g/f. We met at the rehearsal, I thought she was a looker but was too shy to say anything. Saw her at the ceremony and she looked great, but I was too busy with receiving line and stuff to talk to her. Saw her at the reception and was so busy at the start of the dance with all the cousins of her's asking me to dance I didn't even get off the floor for the first hour. I had winked at her a couple times but was too shy to approach her. She finally came over after I had a chance to sit down and asked me to dance. We didn't leave each other's side all night and I got her phone number the next day at the gift opening. We've been together since then... about 18 months. And ya, I don't know but I'm just old fashioned. I think there's a certain way you treat a girl and that just how it is - no questions asked. I do the old things like open doors for her, help her with her chair at dinner, help her with her jacket etc. She loves it and she lets me know that she does ;) lol

Monstar: My 1RM for deads.. hmmm... I've pulled 405x2 before but I haven't really maxed out much. I was thinking about doing my 1RM every 4th or 5th workout so maybe next week I'll see just how much I can pull. I figure with pulling 405x2, and 385x3, I can probably pull about 425x1. If you don't want to be huge like BCC and myself that is fine, I'll just create shade for you skinny boys....ahahahahaa. No do what you do and I'll support. I think that what you do for your gf is great, I act in the same manner. I was taught that at a very tender age(I also had all women in my household so they shoved it down my throat). I'm in the same boat as BB, except I probably don't get volume of looks. Every gf I've had has made the first approach and I've never had to worry about it. But you know it kind of fits my personality in that respect. If both of us were introverts we'd have nothing to talk about. Opposites attract. But still sometimes I'd like to have the kahuana's to go up and talk to women.

Well, hit the gym yesterday with chest and tris. I tried to work on the heavy sets first and I'm still trying to get the numbers right so that I'm hitting the proper number of reps. I think GG was right, its going to take a couple weeks to get everything fine tuned.

Here's what I did:
FLAT DB BENCH:
70x8, 95x3, 110x10, 110x6, 110x5 <----- think I should have only done 8 my first set, oh well

INCLINE DB BENCH:
90x8, 90x6, 90x7 <----- short break between 1st and 2nd set cause I was sharing a bench with someone but still not bad I guess

CABLE CROSSUPS:
40x10, 50x9, 50x8 <----- used a different cable machine and could do more weight this time

DIPS:
BW+45x12, BW+45x7, BW+45x7

DB OVERHEAD EXTENSIONS:
70x11, 70x9, 70x8*

ONE ARM CABLE PUSHDOWNS:
50x6, 50x6, 50x5

Odd that no one posted in here, but oh well, I guess you've all forgotten about me already!! lol

The squat rack was full, so I figured I'd do leg press instead and damn, it was a good way to shock the muscles. I did a huge drop set so it felt pretty good. I stopped long enought to take off a plate from each side and then I was right in there doing the next set!!

Here's what I did:
SLDL:
135x8, 185x6, 225x8, 225x8

LEG PRESS:
450x8, 630x10, 540x6, 450x8, 360x8, 270x12

STANDING CALF RAISES:
300x12, 315x10, 315x9

DB MILITARY PRESS:
40x8, 70x8, 70x8, 70x7.5

BENT OVER REVERSE DB FLYES:
25x8, 25x8, 25x8

TEA CUPS:
30x8, 30x8, 30x8

Felt like a pretty good workout and I was DAWG-TIRED afterwards. Went home and didn't move off of the couch excpet to get more food and fill my glass with water!! lol

Here is an example of what I do Workhorse:

Incline dumbbell presses:

50 x 10 (pure warmup)
75 x 8
90 x 7
90 x 6
80 x 8

Something like that. I do a warmup set very light, then I move up like 25 pounds to get the feel for heavier weight....then I go with the heaviest I have been lifting and lift to failure.

I am taking a week off next week to give my body a rest and just to relax over the holidays and then I'll be back on the 30th.

After those it doesn't make any difference what I do, well it does but not as much as those. Pick a lift or 2 that you like to do and prioritize those for a couple weeks. I've found that's the best thing for me. That way I like doing them and I know more about what I'm doing with those than if they were a lift that I didn't like doing.

Hey HY, that's exactly what I do... I always have a few certain excercises in ym routine and then the supplemntary ones change depending on how I'm feeling, what's open to use and what I'm in the mood for. I agree, it works great.

Well, I'm trying to get my routine back on track cause my days got mixed up so I did chest/tri's last night even though I did them last wednesday. Could tell I could have used an extra day or so of rest but it was still a good workout.

Here's what I did:
FLAT DB BENCH:
65x8, 95x3, 110x10, 110x5, 110x5 <----- Have to remember not to push the 1st set so hard so that I still have energy for the 2nd and 3rd (and I was sharing a bench and was rushed)

INCLINE DB BENCH:
90x8, 90x7, 90x7

CABLE CROSSUPS:
35x8, 35x7.5, 35x7

DIPS:
BW+45x12, BW+45x7, BW+45x7

OVERHEAD DB EXTENSIONS:
70x10, 70x10, 70x9 <----- Will go up weight next week

REVERSE GRIP PUSHDOWNS:

Workhorse, I don't understand you methodical planning with your bench. Why wouldn't you push as hard as you possibly can on the first set? Are you going to failure? If so you are supposed to push until you can't push anymore and then get forced reps if that is possible and then your done. Atleast that is what I have been told. If you can't get the desired reps on the weight on the 2nd set just drop the weight, perform correct and strict form and go to failure again. I don't understand your method...could you explain it to me.

"IF" you are worried about the weight dropping it doesn't matter, all you muscle knows is that the **** is hard, weight doesn't matter if your trying for hypertrophy.

G'd Up!

Workhorse
12-17-2002, 08:59 AM
I try to go to failure all the time (without using a spotter)... all sets... but usually rest just enough to get the required # of reps for all 3 sets. I was a little rushed on the DB Bench cause I was sharing a bench with someone who was doing 12-15 reps and wanted short breaks. If I would have had an extra 30 seconds to rest I would have gotten my target of at least 6 reps per set (plus I felt like I didn't have my normal amount of energy). I hardly ever do forced reps because I don't use a spotter. Its seldom that I have a spotter for a set unless someone I know is there and not busy when I do my set.

GeneticallyGifted
12-17-2002, 09:13 AM
Are you trying to do X amount reps for 3 set for the same weight? There reason I was saying this is because it doesn't matter if you have to drop the weight, you know, as long as the stress and pressure is hard and intense on the muscle. Ya see what I'm saying?

G'd Up

Hey, you may know better then me. I just trying to understand and learn.ahhaa

Workhorse
12-17-2002, 09:23 AM
I know what you're saying GG. I don't try to do a "total number of reps for all 3 sets combined", but I do try to hit 6-8 for all 3 sets. I just felt like I had a ton of energy left over after doing 8 reps on the 1st set so I did 2 more. It was just an odd workout I think. It doesn't happen too often.

I don't necessarily try to make sure I use the same weight for all 3 sets, but I like to simply because its a pain to put back the 110's and get the 105's and then do your set. Too much effort to carry them all the way back to the rack and then back to the bench... call me lazy... lol.

FLAT DB BENCH:
65x8, 95x3, 110x10, 110x5, 110x5 I would suggest just doing 3-5 reps on those 1st 2 sets then you should be all set. If you can get 110 for 3 straight sets I would say its not heavy enough. After I get done with one set, I can just barely get out a 2nd. More weight.

INCLINE DB BENCH:
90x8, 90x7, 90x7Way more weight needed here. Those are some awesome numbers just bump them up a alittle.

Workhorse
12-19-2002, 08:33 AM
I try to get 6-8 reps on most of my sets HY. You think I need to bump the wieght? I don't know if its just me, but I feel like I just don't get a good workout if I only 4 or 5 reps for the first 2 sets and then go to failure on the 3rd. I try to go close to failure on all my sets (its just how I am). You think I should change it up? Could you give me a reason why you have this methodology?

WillKuenzel
12-19-2002, 09:07 AM
My reasoning is this ( at least for me): you are doing the same weight for every set. I would imagine getting close to failure that even with suffecient rest that should be tough to accomplish. Try 6 reps with a heavier weight and then move it back down and try to get more reps. Sort of the reverse pyramid. Push your heaviest weight first then pump down and do more reps. On the last set use either the same weight as the 2nd set or go down just a little bit more but try to get as many reps as you can (i.e. failure).

This seems to work great for me. The 1st working set is incredibly tough, the 2nd is still tough but its just getting the reps out, the 3rd set is to failure and gets what the 1st 2 didn't. Try it with your rep scheme of like 6, 8, 8/10. This way you'll get more weight for the first set and then you're normal weight for the last 2 sets.

Give it some thought and let me know what you think. To each his own but I love the heavy weight first scheme. I know you can do the weight, I hope I didn't come across as an a$$hole or nothing. Either way you're doing great!

Workhorse

HY, don't worry about the a$$hole thing... you didn't come across that way at all, I was just wondering what your reasoning behind it all was.

I think its just in my head, but I feel that I have to drop the weight after a set to get the right number of reps for the next set, the first set was too heavy. And I know that the minute I drop the weight... my reps will be up around 8-10 and I don't want them that high... I try to go 8 at most, (although sometimes it doesn't workout that way and I get 9 or 10). It's hard to explain, I don't know if I made that understandable... lol.

I iwas under the impression to gain mass and strength, I should be aiming for 6-8 reps for my sets? Maybe I'm missing something... lol.

WillKuenzel
12-19-2002, 09:47 AM
No man, you're right. I try to stick around 6-8 too, but my ego has gotten the best of me recently. I think you may actually doing sort of what I'm talking about.

I feel that I have to drop the weight after a set to get the right number of reps for the next setThat's exactly what I do. I was just reading the 110x10, 110x5, 110x5. What I would like to see is something like 120x6, 110x8, 105x10 or something like that. Do you kinda a see what I mean? The first 2, the heaviest are in that rep range you want and the last one is to failure or burnout. It just looks to me like your first working set, you're getting too high of reps. That's why I thought you should increase the weight.

Well, I did back and bi's last night. One more workout on Friday and I'll have a week off to eat and relax...woo hoo. Although since I get to see my g/f, I hardly think I'll be "relaxing"...lol. Actually, we'll be at her parents' and I think we won't have any "alone" time until we come back here on the 28th...ugh...not seeing her for 3 weeks, then being around her for 5 days and not being able to do anything is going to drive us nuts!! But I think we've got some little "games" planned while we're there to have some fun and keep things interesting!! lol

Here's what I did:
WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx9, BWx7.5, BWx5.5 <---- had to take very short breaks here cause I working in with another guy... I hate it when its busy!

HAMMER STRENGTH PULLBACKS:
100x8, 100x8, 100x8 <---- I'll go up in weight next time

BENT OVER BB ROWS:
205x7, 205x7, 205x5 dropset to 135x8

LAT SWEEPDOWNS:
140x7.5, 140x6.5, 140x5.5

SEATED DB CURLS:
40x10, 40x8, 40x8 <---- These were hard, but I'll go up in weight next time

STRAIGHT BAR CABLE CURLS:
150x8, 150x6.5, 140x7

DB REACHER CURLS:
35x8, 35x6.5

ABS

I've noticed that lately I've kinda been just going off of memory as to what weights I should do... but I'm going to make sure rather than leaving it to my memory, I'm going to actually mark in my book that I need to go up in weight when things are too easy. I've found that I'm going by memory and I end up wasting a set here or there because I didn't grap the right amount of weight. Hopefully this will help!!

Ya, that set of DB Bench was really messed up... there aren't any 115's, but they have 120's. I think I'm just scared to try the 120's. I know what you mean though... but I just think in my head that if i have to drop the weight, I'm soind something wrong... maybe I gotta change my way of thinking... maybe I'll try that for my next chest workout when I come back after Christmas... we'll have to see, because for that week, my g/f will be here and we'll be going to a different gym and I'm not sure what they have for DB's. I think I know what you're getting at though... I'll keep it in mind for sure!!

Workhorse, I gotta agree with HY on that. I think that you are much stronger then you give yourself credit for. The 120's are something that you probably could do in a rep range of 6-8 just give it a try and push them until you can't any more. Once you can't keep the 120's in your rep range drop the weight down some. I know that this is getting redundant and we all have talked about this, but I do think that you could be holding your strength or progress back. We are here to support you and get you big as well as us, YA DIGG.

OK, I'll chime in on behalf of Workhorse. I personally think it is a great thing to not have sex before marriage especially if you know you are with the lady you love. I know...I know....folks always say you better make sure the shoes fit before you buy them, but there is something about holding off and letting it build to the point where you are about to "go freakin' nuts" and then getting it on your honeymoon.

Oh well, it sounds good...but I didn't do that LOL.

If you have had sex before, what difference does it make.

I'd hold off if I was with the one I loved and was going to marry.

AND...he said they were doing EVERYTHING else. Sometimes oral sex is all ya need :D

Did legs and shoulders, felt like a good workout even though I missed my 3:00pm meal and felt kinda tired. Did my best so we'll see. Bottomed out a little deeper than I'm used to doing squats and almost stalled out... once my CNS gets used to the heavy weights in squats, I'll be doing better.

Here's what I did:
SLDL:
135x8, 225x8, 22x5, 225x7

SQUATS:
225x4, 315x3, 345x10, 345x8, 335x8

LEG EXTENSIONS:
150x10, 170x10, 190x8 <---- never do these so I had no idea how heavy to go, I guess I know for later I can do atleast 170-180

STANDING CALF RAISES:
315x12, 315x10, 300x10

DB MILITARY PRESS:
40x8, 75x8, 75x6, 70x6

FRONT DB RAISES:
45x7, 40x7

REVERSE PEC DECK:
150x8, 150x7.5, 135x7.5

I feel like I'm getting used to doing the heavier sets first and I'm beginning to get the weights figured out. Hopefully it'll help my gains and I'll reach some good numbers.

I'm taking the next week off over Christmas. I'm heading out to my gf's parents' place (farm) so I won't have access to a gym, so I figured it would be a good opportunity to take a week off and let my body rest, especially since I'm going to be eating my face off (no junk food though). I'm at about 208 right now so I have no idea how this week will go for keeping my weight - I wonder whether I'll lose or gain... hmmmm.

I'll be around today (the 23rd), but I'm leaving tonight to head out of town. Merry Christmas to everyone, see you in a week!!

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!! Well, does that explain how I feel? lol

I was away for the past week at my g/f's parents house for Christmas. All her family was there, was a crazy household for all 5 days I was there. I ate everything in sight and I weighed myself yesterday. I figure I fvckin' lost about 6 pounds!!! How the hell does that work? I don't workout so I don't burn as many cals as normal, I eat everything in sight, the only thing I don't do is drink water all day. I barely ate any sweets, mostly just good meals. I know I was only eating 3 meals or so rather than 5-6 like normal, but still!?! I mean come on, I know I lost a lot of water, but damn, 6 pounds!?! I hate my metabolism!! lol

Anyways, that was my rant. My g/f and I are going to try to hit the gym today, Thursday and Saturday. Hopefully it all works out. I have a BF% test on the 6th. I was interested to see what it was at so I booked one... its free at my gym so I figured what the hell!! :) I'll update my stats then and I think I'm going to get my g/f to take a few pics of me next weekend just before my BF test, so that I can post up some pics along with the stats. I'm scared to see what they are. Ugh, I hate holidays... the screw up my routine of eating etc. It's soooo hard to eat right when your routine isn't the same.

Oh, and my g/f and I went shopping on Saturday and finally picked out a ring. I put a down payment on it (without her knowing) and I figure I'll talk to her dad in May about getting "his blessing" to marry her. My g/f has no idea I bought the ring and diamond so I'm really happy about that. I want it to be a complete surprise when I propose. She knows it'll happen this spring sometime, but she has no idea when. I had the money now, so I figured I'd buy it now and then I can propose as soon as I talk to her dad and figure out a good time to do it. WOO HOO!! Can you tell I'm excited?? lol

Congratulations about the ring dude. As for your weight, I can only say I did about the same thing. I ate like a madman and weighed at the gym after Christmas and went from 190ish to 186. I think alot of it was water weight because I didn't drink close to my 2 gallons a day at my parents. You will put it back on quick.

I'm 190 and fat again. I've been eating way too many carbs lately and will probably start a very slow cut after Jan 1.

Congrats on the ring man!! That's quite an investment both money wise and everything else. That's awesome!

Don't worry about your weight. Mines doing the same thing. Freaking metabolism is off the scale. The less I eat the more weight I lose, the more I eat the more weight I lose. You'll get back on track soon enough.

Congratulations again!!

HomeYield: I weighed myself yesterday and was at 206, so I don't think I've lost too much weight, although I'm sure I've lost some water. Thanks on the ring thing... hopefully when it gets mounted on the band it'll look the way I want it too. She won't be getting it until the spring, but I figured I'd buy it now since I had the cash and I know its "the one" she wants.

Monstar: I normally do squats first but the power rack was being used by some a$$ doing BB curls. Its just worked out the last couple of times that I haven't been able to do squats first... dont worry, that'll change!! :D

GG: What can I say, I'm just an old fashioned guy... lol. I think it shows alot of respect and it shows him that I'm serious about it. Wedding will be in the summer of 2004 (most likely...99%).

Well, after spending the past 2 weeks around family, I think I've been asked about 50 times if Liz (my g/f) got a ring for Christmas!?! I guess everyone in the family knows she's the one and they are all happy for us. It was just really funny to have family members walk up to her and say hi and grab her hand and check to see if the promise ring I gave her had been replaced with an engagement ring...lol. Oh well, I know they all love her so who am I to complain, eh!?!

Had a good workout considering I hadn't been in the gym for 14 days!!! Ugh, I hate holidays, but only because they crew up my routine and I end up missing days in the gym, everything about them is great! :D

Here's what I did:
DB BENCH PRESS:
65x8, 90x3, 110x8, 110x6, 110x5

DB INCLINE BENCH PRESS:
90x8, 90x6, 90x6

CABLE CROSSUPS:
40x6.5, 35x8, 35x7.5

DIPS:
BW+45x10, BW+45x8, BW+45x6

DB OVERHEAD EXTENSIONS:
75x9, 75x8

STRAIGHT BAR PUSHDOWNS:
150x6.5, 140x7.5

ABS

Some of the sets had a rep or two drop off from the last workout, but that too be expected when I haven't been in the gym for 2 weeks!! I'm going to try and do back and bi's on Saturday. Then back on track come next week. I have my BF test on Monday, and my g/f took a couple pics of me over the holidays so maybe I'll post them once they get developed!?! lol

Had a good weekend although my g/f is now back in Regina (8 hours from here) and I'm sad. :( It is really hard to have her around for 2 weeks and get back into the routine of having her around and then bang, she's gone again... only 7 more months and she'll be back here and I'll be happier. lol

**HY: I try to stick in the 6-8 rep range, although some days I just have more energy and the reps end up being 9 or 10. I'm still working towards doing my heavy sets first and you'll see it from my workout on Saturday (it will be my next post). And that first set of DB Bench was close to failure... I want to go up in weight, but my gym doesn't have 115's and the highest they have is 120's... almost to the end of the rack.. woo hoo, what a feeling! Not too sure what to do...

**Rez: You let me know where I can send it, and you can come for sure!! After all, I have a cousin touring around Australia right now... ;)

**Franj: I really enjoy surprising my g/f. To me, it just shows here that I think of her even when she's not around and if I can plan things without her knowing, that'll just show her more how much I love her. Boy did that sound cheesey!!! lol **grunt grunt... ok, now I'm back in my Macho-Man persona... gotta make sure I don't crush that reputation by letting people know I'm just a big softy.... lol.

Well, my g/f took some pics... there are a couple more left on the film so once she gets rid of those, she's going to mail me a copy of the photos and I'll scan them and post 'em up here. Back and bi's... still trying to get this whole heavy sets first thing down right, I'm definately getting better and I can tell I'm pushing myself harder, which can only be a good thing, right!?! I'm going to do more on my first set next time of HS Pulldowns, kinda did more than I thought I could on this excercise. I keep finding that I'll do a weight one week, then do the same weight the next week and I try to compensate to get the proper weight for my first set, but my strength is going up too so I'm having a hard time fine tuning it!! Ugh!! But I'll figure it all out, you can count on it!! lol

Here's what I did:
WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx8, BWx6

BENT OVER BB ROWS:
205x8, 205x8, 205x7

HAMMER STRENGTH PULLDOWNS:
90x8, 100x7, 100x6 <--- this is per hand, in case you all didn't know, and I'm going to try doing 100's first next time and then see how my sets go...

LAT SWEEPDOWNS:
140x7, 140x6

SEATED DB CURLS:
45x8, 45x7, 45x6

STRAIGHT BAR CABLE CURLS:
160x6, 150x6, 150x6.5

DB PREACHER CURLS:
35x8, 35x7

CABLE SHRUGS:
200x16 <--- I normally don't do shrugs, but I just had an urge to do a set... did them at the cable station that I did cable curls on... got a nice burn going... lol

Yeah that is the one I do. I think you can put 2 plates on each side. I have done 200 lbs. on this rotating each arm at a time.

Workhorse
01-06-2003, 10:41 AM
I find that 100# is as much as I can per arm... otheriwse I find myself using too much body-english (I do both arms simultaneoulsy - 200# total). I know my back is probably one of the weakest parts on my body... but damn... if you're doin' 200# per arm... I must be a damn weakling!! lol

BennettBoy
01-06-2003, 10:43 AM
Well, my back is probably my strongest bodypart. On the T-Bar machine I use I rarely see anybody doing 3 plates. I use 3 plates and a 25 and don't even cheat much. My only weakness seems to be with pulldowns. I see folks doing more than me....but their form sucks to hell LOL. They aren't working their lats. They just pull alot of weight with their arms.

Workhorse
01-06-2003, 10:50 AM
I think I'm confused... if you use 3 plates and a 25 for the t-bar, that's 150# total, using both arms at once... then how do you do 200# per side with the pull downs??

Workhorse
01-07-2003, 07:50 AM
Ah, you ain't dumb... just confused like me! ;)

Well, I've got some news, lol, I've decided to switch to a 4 day routine for the next couple months. I figured that I took a break over Christmas to give my body a rest, so now would be a great time to switch up my routine too. Some of you may have seen my thread in the training forum for some quick advice.

My routine will be:
Monday - Chest/shoulders
Tuesday - Back
Thursday - Legs
Friday - Bi's/tri's

There will be a couple days here that bodyparts get worked very close together because of the routine change, but that's ok, I can deal with it so you'll have to also!! LOL :D

I got my bodyfat taken yesterday and I think its a little higher than what the reading said, but hey, who I am to complain? lol

Here's the info on the test:
Total Body Weight: 210.0#
Leam Body Mass: 184.8#
Body Fat Mass: 25.2#
Body Fat %: 12.1%
Optimal Ratio for my age, height (according to stats Canada - which is CRAP...lol): 5.3 to 1 <---pounds of LBM to pounds of fat
My Ratio: 7.3 to 1
Total Body Water: 57.6L

So there you have it, those are my stats... I'll change my signature to match them and I just hope the pics that I took show what I have and don't make me look like a fool cause I think my bodyfat is a little closer to 13-14%. I know there's a margin of error in the readings, but we'll see how it goes.

Tuesday January 7, 2003 - Back

Did back by itself today and the gym was once again packed. I wanted to do Bent over BB rows earlierin my routine, but the lack of free equipment didn't let me do them until last. Sorta felt like a good workout, but I just didn't feel like I got pumped or really busted my ass, it was a weird feeling.

Here's what I did (in order):

WIDE GRIP PULLUPS:
BWx8, BWx8, BWx8
This was a first that I've ever gotten 8 reps done on all 3 sets!!

HAMMER STRENGTH PULLBACKS:
100x8, 105x8, 110x7
Used a different machine and thought I had enough weight...guess not, but I know for next time to do more on my first set!!

CABLE ROWS:
195x7.5, 195x7, 195x6
Don't normally do these but didn't have much choice because th gym was packed

BENTOVER BB ROWS:
155x12, 205x6, 205x5
I worked in with someone here and he was rushing me so I didn't have as long of breaks as I would have liked...errrrr I hate a busy gym!!!!

ABS

I think I've decided to weigh myself once a week from now on. I used to weigh myself every Monday, but I have gotten into the habit of stepping on the scale every time I'm at the gym. I feel like its to hard to gauge progress if I'm on the scale all the time so I'm going to go back to once a week because it will give me more time to notice changes. We'll see how it goes. I'm up to 210 and this is the heaviest I've ever been. I would love to see 220 before I start cutting but I highly doubt that I will hit it. My metabolism is so damn fast, I'm slowly putting on weight and I'm eating about 4200 cals a day...insane!!

From the summertime till now I have put on about 8 pounds of muscle and 6 pounds of fat...not great, but a definate improvement. I guess I should try eating a little more protein and a little less carbs to cut that fat gain a little... we'll see.

There is NO ONE that adds weight to do their chins in my gym...I'm gonna feel like a freak! But honestly, I'm not sure...I may try adding 10 pounds or something...but I don't think I'll be able to add much more and still get a significant amount of reps done...hmmmm

HY: The XXX ones...ain't none of those taken...*this time". I know I know...once I get them, I'll post 'em, but it may be a couple weeks...

Thursday January 9, 2003 - Legs

I pushed myself pretty hard today even though I didn't do quite as much weight on squats than last time... I feel like I had better form and a better workout this time... hmmm... I'll have to experiment a little. Other than that, there were about 10 guys doin' legs today, and normally there are 3 or 4. Talk about a bottlenecking of equipment...everything was being used!! Didn't get to do SLDL so I did curls instead for my hammies.

Here's what I did (in order):

SQUATS:
225x8, 315x10, 335x10, 335x8

LEG EXTENSIONS:
180x10, 190x9, 190x8

HAM CURLS:
100x10, 110x6, 100x6, 90x6

STANDING CALF RAISES:
300x10, 315x9, 300x8

ABS

It only took 45 minutes to workout today, I'm really liking this new routine. Hopefully it'll like me too! :D Gonna do bi's and tri's tomorrow and then I have hockey tomorrow night. That should help my legs loosen up cause I know they're gonna be sore!! Gotta love DOMS!!

Friday January 10, 2003 - Arms

I'll have to go up on the Seated DB curls, at least for my first set. Same with Overhead DB extensions. Not doing bi's and tri's after back or chest repsectively sure lets you lift more weight!! This is cool!! lol

Here's what I did (in order):

SEATED DB CURLS:
25x8, 45x10, 45x8, 45x7

STANDING EZ BAR CURLS:
90x10.5, 90x7.5, 90x6

DB PREACHER CURLS:
40x6, 35x8

DIPS: <---I think I'm going to try to use more weight on my first set of these next time and see how it goes
BW+45x14, BW+45x10, BW+45x8

OVERHEAD DB EXTENSIONS:
80x11, 85x8, 85x8

ROPE PUSHDOWNS:
130x10, 140x5 dropset to 120x4

But hey, you gotta have some days where you just lounge around all day and just don't do anything! Right?? LOLLOL, I like having those everyday. I guess the fact that don't happen very often makes them that much more relaxing when they do.

Nice arm session. I love doing rope pushdowns to fry the tri's. Especially dropsets. I like doing dropsets period though.

Monday January 13, 2003 - Chest & Shoulders

The gym was amazingly empty today. Espescially considering all the new years people and the fact that Mondays were always busy. My entire workout only took 50 mins... where normally its an hour. Tres cool. I normally have to do about 8-10 sets to work my shoulders but now that I'm doing them with chest, I've noticed they are completely spent after about 7-8 sets, this is very cool too. :D

Here's what I did (in order):

FLAT DB BENCH PRESS:<---Gotta figure out how I'm going to get around this...the next set of DB's are 120's, and Im scared to try em for the first set of my 3 working sets
65x8, 90x3, 110x10, 110x7, 110x5

INCLINE DB BENCH PRESS:
95x8, 95x6, 95x6

CABLE CROSSUPS:
40x6, 35x6+2, 35x6+1

DB MILITARY PRESS:<---really concentrating on keeping my lower back pressed to the bench so I couldn't cheat at all, hence I dropped down 5 pounds
75x6*, 70x6*, 70x6*

TEA CUPS:
25x8, 25x8

CABLE PULLTHROUGH:
70x8, 70x8

BW: 210.1 pounds :D  :D

MonStar
01-14-2003, 10:37 AM
Wow WH, 210 lbs., awesome. Keep the weight going up and up and up man.

Anyway I say shoot for the 120s. Your strength DB presses is friggin' nuts. If you want you can try and find a local fitness store that might have 2.5 lbs. magnetic weights. I have them myself. You put them on the end of each DB to make them 115s. You can even buy 1.25 lbs. weights to make it 112.5 DBs.

Keep up the hard work man.

Workhorse
01-14-2003, 11:16 AM
Those magnets sound like a good idea but the DB's at my gym are covered in rubber... they aren't the all rubber ones, but the metal plates are coated in a rubber material so I don't think they'd stick to the plates. Maybe you're right, maybe I can pop out 6 reps on my first set with the 120's and then use the 110's for my 2nd and 3rd sets, hmmmmm... guess I might have to get over my fear of the 120's and just ask someone to spot me if I use them. :D

Worked back and actually did deadlifts - something I haven't done in a few weeks now. They felt good and I feel like my form is getting better for them everytime I do them. Didn't pull as much weight as I was hoping though, oh well, maybe next time.

Here's what I did (in order):

DEADLIFTS: <---the ** denotes the use of lifting straps
135x6, 225x5, 315x3, 385x4**, 385x4**, 385x4**

WIDE GRIP PULLUPS: <---very short breaks between sets caused a lower rep count
BWx9.5, BWx6.5, BWx5.5

HAMMER STRENGTH PULLDOWNS:
100x8, 100x6.5, 100x6.5

REVERSE DB FLYES:

MY PICS FOOKIN' SUCK!!! Yep, you heard it...I got my pics in the mail today from Elizabeth and they suck...for two reasons. First, I forgot to turn off the flash so I have ZERO definition and I look like even more of a pale ass white boy than I already am. And secondly, the angles are all screwed up... took leg shots from standing and took upper body shots while sitting on the bed. It didn' even dawn on me that the different angles would fvck things up...but it did...ROYALLY!!

EDIT: removed the rambling

MonStar

WH what are you talking about man? It crushed you? The mirror is a MUCH better guage than friggin' progress pics. A lot of times my girlfriend, who sees me everyday, will comment on my arms or back or whatever looking bigger. Or Ill notice myself in the mirror. Pics can have poor lighting, etc. Use the mirror as your guage. And even better the same mirror, with the same lighting.

Workhorse
01-17-2003, 08:00 AM

MonStar
01-17-2003, 08:03 AM
Hope you feel a lot better WH, my apologies for not being able to relate. For some reason I have always been motivated to train and all that. Although I have gone through downfalls where Ill miss a big lift and things of that nature. But I never was ready to give up my workouts. More so just change the way that I was training thats all. Good luck getting back into the swing of things. And maybe progress pics arent a good idea. Take them after a 20 lbs. weight gain or something like that in proper lighting when you KNOW that it will be a dramatic difference.

Here's what I did (in order):

SQUATS: <---Did these as a quick warmup while the guy on leg press finished up
225x8, 225x8

LEG PRESS: <---Giant suserset, I basically rested enough to take a plate off of each side and then started the next set
630x9, 540x8, 450x10, 360x10, 270x12

STANDING CALF RAISES:
300x15, 330x10, 330x9, 315x9

HAM CURLS:

What you do is just take regular pics without the flash and things will come out fine. I PROMISE!!! The pics can have an affect on your workout, but you should take some pics and work harder. Thanks everyone for posting your comments. I posted them in the members section so hopefully a few people other than the minority of members that read my journal will give me some feedback too.

Now........

My boss came in on the weekend, and uninstalled, MSN Messenger, Yahoo Messnger, Kazaa Lite, Winamp, and a few other things!!! Well, he didn't uninstall them, he deleted them so now I have residue files on my C: drive that can't be removed because the program wasn't uninstalled properly. We haven't been busy here at the office at all lately, and I've charged out a ton of hours tothe company rather than clients because the company has no work for me to do. So because of the hours charged to the company, he figures we're just fvckin' the dog so he comes in and deletes a whole bunch of **** off of our computers!! Now I understand, it is company property, and these things may be distracting but when I have work, it gets done. When I don't have work, yes, I do surf the internet, and I do chat with friends. I have no problem with him deleting these things, but he could have atleast asked me to do it rather than do it behind my back!! Ugh... I have a million things running through my head right now.... grrrrrrrr.... he is a GREAT boss, but this just bugs the hell outta me!!!
