why do people eat whole wheat bread instead of white? I checked the nutritional value and the protein content was the same. The carbs were also relatively close. Is there some other reason?

Whole wheat braid has more fibre and a lower gi.(it's absorbed lower than white bread)

Whole grain is even lower on the G.I.

Read the label closely on "wheat bread." If the first ingredient isn't "whole wheat flour," it isn't much better than white.
Lots of "wheat" breads list "enriched wheat flour" as their main ingredient. This is basically white flour with a little color added.
Whole wheat includes the husk/germ of the wheat berry, which adds fiber, vitamin E, and some other good stuff...much more nutritious.
