basicly it said that hGH administered in combination with "sex" steroids (obviously AAS) resulting in middle-aged and older people gaining LBM and losing fat at the same time.

many people apparently suffered some serious sides like diabetis...

ST, B, tadger you guys hear anything on this?

daibetes probably from insulin use.

It's well established that HGH causes insulin resistance (listed in PDR as a common side effect) insulin resistance leads to diabetes so it's not to hard to see the connection. This is why you always see BB'ers stack insulin with HGH, to control insulin resistance and blood sugar.

Those who don't wish to use insulin usually opt for metformin and ALA to off set the effect of HGH. Also things like low carb diets and night time HGH injections can offset this problem to a degree.

I wouldn't be suprised if the study observed other serious side effects like blindness, drastic decrease in vision, unfavorable changes in blood lipids, and cardiovascular disease as these are all side effects of high blood sugar. High blood sugar results from insulin resistance which needs to be controlled during HGH therapy or could potentially lead to death if untreated.

Geriatric Growth Hormone Interventions Not Ready For Clinical Use.

11/13/2002
By Elda Hauschildt

Growth hormone therapy, with and without sex steroids, increases lean body mass and decreases fat mass in healthy older men and women.

Researchers in the United States warn, however, that rate of adverse effects indicate the interventions are not ready for clinical use and should be reserved for controlled studies. These side effects include diabetes and glucose intolerance.

Growth hormones plus sex steroids also increase muscle strength marginally and maximum oxygen uptake in men. But, investigators from the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda and Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, both in Maryland, say there was no significant change in strength or cardiovascular endurance in women. "The beneficial effects of growth hormone appeared to be augmented by co-administration of testosterone but not hormone replacement therapy (HRT)," they explain.

The researchers enrolled 57 women and 74 men, aged 65 to 88 years, in a 26-week, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. Participants in the parallel-group study were healthy, ambulatory and lived in the community when recruited between June 1992 and July 1998.

A total of 35 participants received subcutaneous growth hormone three times a week plus sex steroids: HRT (transdermal estradiol plus oral medroxyprogesterone acetate) for women and testosterone enanthate for men. Another 30 participants received growth hormone plus placebo sex steroid, and 35 other participants were given sex steroid plus placebo growth hormone. The final group of 31 participants received placebo growth hormone and placebo sex steroids.

Lean body mass increased in women by 0.4 kilograms with placebo, 1.2 kg with HRT, 1 kg with growth hormone and 2.1 kg with both growth hormone and HRT. Fat mass decreased significantly in women in both the growth hormone and growth hormone plus HRT groups.

In men, lean body mass increased by 0.1 kg with placebo, 1.4 kg with testosterone, 3.1 kg with growth hormone and 4.3 kg with growth hormone plus testosterone. Like the women, fat mass also decreased significantly with growth hormone and growth hormone plus sex steroids.

The men's strength did not increase except for a marginally significant increase with growth hormone plus testosterone. Their maximum oxygen uptake increased with growth hormone and growth hormone plus testosterone.

Diabetes or glucose intolerance occurred in 18 men treated with growth hormone, compared with seven of those not receiving the hormone.
JAMA, 2002; 288: 2282-2292
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Glucose intolerance is type-II non insulin dependent diabetes. If the beta cells of the pancrease were not damaged during the course of the study then normal insulin sensetivity should return to normal over time.

The study also mentioned that carpal tunnel symptoms and arthralgias occured in about 1/3 the men recieveing GH + Testosterone.

How much of that lean body mass do you think is attributed to the growth of internal organs- or is that just side effect of GH abuse?

This is why I posted that thread about testosterol, and Cocoon HGH etc...they're finding out that steroids can help you stay healthy and young. NO ****ING ****.
But if you take 'steroids', you're a freak. Society, as a whole, blows.

Old people. Feh.

well since it was a carefully administered dose i would say GH abuse (in this setting) was not something to worry about.

I thought the most interesting thing was that they gained LBM (and this would most likely include muscle) without any change in exercise (i believe most did not exercise)

From the studies I looked at it seems when growth hormone is given alone almost all of the increase in LBM is organ, soft tissue, and connective tissue growth. However when givin in conjunction with Testosterone a significant amount of muscle tissue attributes to the total increase in LBM.

Their is evidence that testosterone induces hyperplasia through satellite cell activation. (the full article was in MD last month). So I believe that Testosterone and HGH play a partial role in the pathway to muscle hyperplasia. HGH being the main contributor but I think androgens levels may act as the initiator via the satellite cells. The higher androgen levels the higher the amount of cells that are also activiated.

Then again I just worked a 13 hour day so I could just be rambling...
