chris mason

Well, I took a couple of shots during my workout tonight. I have been "bulking" (read:eating a lot) and I wanted to see how things were going. I am really training for size and strength right now, so I really don't mind the extra bodyfat.

I eat three meals a day. I eat pretty much whatever I like. As of late, I have taken to eating an apple and a banana combined with 2 glasses of skim milk right before bed. I did this to reduce my intake of candy and sweets, and to get a good mixed source of protein right before bed. I know this may dissapoint the "diet is 80% of weightlifting" crowd. Diet is 80% of your bodyfat level, but not of your overall muscle mass.

i cant really tell if your a lefty or a righty, which is good, but i would venture to guess that you are a righty since your right tricep looks thicker, but your left bicep has a better peak, i dont know if you care about that, just a small observation,

Lol at the blurry pic. That would make me the world's worst hippocrit! It is the real deal, trust me.

As to the comments about my arm Calvinator, you are correct. It has always been that way. I have always had a thicker tricep on my right arm and a better bicep peak on my left. I comfort myself in remembering that Arnold's peak was much better on his right arm. As to begin right or left handed, I am ambidextrous. I write with my right hand, throw with my right, eat with my left, abd bat lefty.

I don't know what I am weighing, I will have to go to the gym to get on a scale. I am guessing in the 220s somewhere.

Your not serious about the apples, banana's and milk being a good source of Protein right?
I bet if you cut out all that sugar, especially right before bed and ate 6-7 proper meals a day, you'd be even bigger and a whole lot leaner.

No offense but thank god your back isn't as hairy as your front. :D

Last I checked, milk had protein in it.

chris mason
11-15-2002, 01:46 PM
The milk is an excellent source of protein. The fruit is for a lowfat, healthy snack. Milk contains both whey and casein. The whey is the quick acting and the casein helps to provide a nice even flow of amino acids for an extended period. So yes, I was serious.

If I changed my diet I would be leaner (if I changed it in a manner which would accomdate that goal), I would certainly not be any bigger or stronger. Your opinion on this matter is the unfortunate result of years and years of supplement company propaganda, propaganda often veiled as unbiased muscle magazines etc.

I like Chris's train of thought on food. As I get older I'm starting to understand that eating for size isn't that big of a deal, it's in the manner that you train that counts in the end.

My point is that your promoting Milk and fruit as something good to eat before bed, you may want to point out to a newbie reading this that its an ok diet for someone that doesn't care about putting on alot of fat but for someone that wants to stay relatively lean, its bad eating habits. (I'm talking about before bed here so don't bash me about eating fruit or drinking milk)

I never suggested any supplements as an alternative to your diet so i don't know where your "supplement Propaganda" idea came from.

I am 32.

Can you explain to me exactly how drinking skim milk and eating an apple and a banana before bed will make a newbie fat?

As to the supplement reference, what I meant was the current "thinking" in the bodybuilding community is driven much more by profit than it is by science. Your contention that fruit before bed will make one fat goes along with the current thinking in bodybuilding that carbs are bad etc. I realize you did not suggest any supplements.

I fully realize I am far from lean. I also fully realize that the only way for a natural to really push the bounds of natural size is to carry some extra bodyfat. I know this is also not the in vogue thinking, all of the magazines have people thinking they can be huge and ripped naturally without ever carrying any bodyfat. I also realize that they use pictorial testimonials in order to back this point. I also realize that the people in those pictorials take steroids. I also realize steroids allow one to pack on fat free mass.....and so on, and so on....

chris mason
11-16-2002, 12:40 PM
Ok, let's discuss the 3 meal thing. It is partially an age related thing. When I was younger and trying to gain weight, I ate 4-5 meals per day. In terms of protein etc., 3 meals and a snack per day is more than sufficient. Multiple meals are beneficial when trying to gain or lose weight. When trying to gain, they allow for the greater consumption of calories. When trying to lose, they keep the metabolism elevated and help to keep hunger pangs at bay. At my age, 3 meals, and a snack, per day gives me more calories than I need (as is evidenced by my bodyfat), and it certainly gives me all I need to get for growth etc.

heh.

Yup USAPL is drug tested.

IME, since there are PLENTY of federations that do not test, there isn't too much crossover... but I'm sure there are some getting by the test.

USAPL testing (atleast in local meets) is random, and they test for everything the IOC tests for.

Of course, you also need to look at when the record was set (I think the DL record was set in '94)... there was a time when USAPL wasn't tested, I think.

Regardless - I'd imagine your pull would be quite competitive.

Chris, you are 32 years old right, well, if you really gave it a go, with your strength and all

you could place very high in natural BB or place at the very top in elite powerlifting, why dont you give it a go! go all berserk and train all winter and summer and join a contest of some sort!!!

I aint saying this to be a brown nose, I am saying this because I want you to make me a moderator on WBB! ops, no...

But seriously man, you have awesome build and genetics and if I was you, I would increase my goals!!

You know Rock, when I was just a bit older than you I had the goal of becoming a professional bodybuilder. I trained like a nut. After getting really involved in the lifestyle, and getting to know top level amateur and pro bodybuilders, I realized the amount of drugs I would have to take in order to achieve that goal was more than I was willing to do. I also realize that to be a top level strength I have to take steroids, and at this time I am not willing to do so.

No need to apologize, I think about it all the time, believe me. In the end, who knows, I just may, but hopefully not.
