Hi, have a question about protein.
I am currently taking 3 scoops of GNC whey protein in water both before and after weight workouts, and only 1 serving before I do cardio. Any thoughts on this - should I be taking something else ?

might wanna take some simple carbs. w/ your whey, and why not add some creatine in the mix.

Dextrose... 30g-50g in your post workout shake along with your 5g of creatine.

Ok, sorry if I ask stupid questions. I have this GNC creatine that I can just add to the GNC whey protein. How is the dextrose sold ? And should I add that with the creatine to the post workout only, not the preworkout ?

That is a lot of protien in a short amount of time. That is what about 60g of protien before and after training? I would go with maybe two scoops before working out with some complex carbs and then one scoop afterwords with simple carbs (dextrose), and a whole food meal about an hour afterwords.

Ok - this is what it looks like on the days I lift:
4:15 am protein shake GNC 40g protein
6:15 am protein shake GNC 40 g protein
7:30 egg whites
10:30 designer whey bar - 31 g protein
12:30 lunch - turkey on whole wheat
3:30 pm 1 cup cottage cheese
6:00 pm dinner .....
8:30 snack

so on a day like today - I'm up to over 200 g protein, and approx the same with carbs. I'm 5' 9" weigh 185 lbs, bf 19 %, 41 yrs old.

Some supp companies make tubs of "carb" powder. That's what I bought as i couldn't find dextrose or maltodextrin. It's still cheap anyway...I think it was only about $15 canadian for a 3 lbs tub. It's just sugar that will aid in replenishing blood glucose levels and also potentially create an insulin spike, which will aid in the absorption of the protein you take post workout.

I was under the impression that each scoop was 20g. 40g before and after sounds more reasonable. I would still eat some complex carbs before training and simple carbs after (like above posts mentioned). What are your goals right now (cut/bulk)? If trying to gain may want to add in more carbs. Might want to increase fat intake as well. Throw in some natty pb or flax oil throughout the day. A good site to help you track all this www.fitday.com or just write it down in a little notebook.

You can get dextrose at some supermarkets... but I buy mine at the do-it-yourself wine making stores. I was in there last time with my old man and the guy gave me a 2kg bag for free. It's really inexpensive.

Nope, it's 3 scoops= 40 g. By the way, I'm using a software program called Nutribase - excellent - found it on the web - 2 week trial, then it cost me something like $30.
