I got a buddy that is fasting due to his religon, and I was wondering if bulking could still be achieved during this time period? It a month long. It's a fast from sunrise to sunset, nothing can be taken in to his body, including fluids. And if it is possible to bulk up, would he put on more than usual bodyfat because of it, since hes not eating for a reasonable amount of time.

If the answer is yes, and I suspect that it is, then wouldn't that be preferable over possibly losing hard-earned muscle?

This is not my expertise, but I'm going to go out on a limb, and suggest that while it is definitely possible to gain weight (fat) while eating like that, it would probably be "less than optimal" with regards to packing on muscle mass.

Again, this is over my head. My personal preference would be to keep all hard-earned muscle, at all costs, even if I had to diet off a few pounds a month later.

YMMV, I guess.

Just eat what you can when you can. It would be more ideal to eat throughout the day, but some people can't...so just throw in a good meal in the morning before the sun rises, and eat as much as you can after.

More than usual bodyfat? I doubt it.

do people who work nights have to fast? as they are only up in night time in UK, gets dark early.

Yes, you can bulk with the fasting.

Meal #1 - before sunrise; ~ 800 cal (ie, 35g fat [flax], 70g carb, 50g protein)
Meal #2 - sunset (hypothetically, 4pm) ~ 700 cal
Meal #3 - 7pm ~ 700 cal
Meal #4 - 10pm ~ 700 cal
Meal #5 - overnight (optional) ~ 100 cal (protein)

That's 3,000 calories, enough for most to bulk with.

Sleep all day. Thats what I do, before I got arrested for assault. I have trouble with a few hours.
