7:30 30g Whey in water

8:00 1 cup oatmeal, skim milk

11:00 Protein Bar (Labrada, 30g protein..not sure about fat/carbs)

1:30 Tuna sandwich/wholewheat bread, with potato salad

6:30 Can of tuna with a glass of milk

9:00 Chicken breast, baked beans (the good kind with no sugars), 2 small potatoes, glass of milk

11:00 ?


Given my stats (170lb, 5'10), and I'm currently on a bulk, what should I take at 11:00? Sometimes I take a 40g in milk, sometimes a can of tuna and milk - it depends on how I feel.

Do you think I'm getting enough calories in to bulk successfully?

p.s. I'm also taking 4 tbsp of Flax oil per day (2 in the morning, 2 at night)

Definitely doesn't look like enough to bulk. But I guess a lot would depend on your metabolism.

I've got an average sort of metabolism, not too slow or fast.

I'll add a slice or two of toasted WW bread with peanut butter in the morning.

11:00pm - Cottage Cheese, and lots of it

Here is what I've had so far. This is my first day ever of eating this fracking much. Kinda odd feeling.

7:00 | Oatmeal, a lil coffee
11:00 | Cheesy potatoes (love these), Beef stew
3:45 | More beef stew
4:30 | Protein shake, 2 scoops
5:00 | Lift
6:30 | Protein shake v2 (now)
7:30 | Stew, yet again (leftovers are good, eh?)
8:30 | A couple glasses of OJ
11:00 | Several handfulls of peanuts, 2 slices of pizza.

Also, all protein shakes are done with 2 cups of 2% milk. (God I hate the taste of it in water, plus milk actually has some nutritional value)

don't consume whey w/o simple sugars first thing in the am. when serum glucose is low and whey is consumed alone the majority will be oxidized...

When I first read your diet I thought you were cutting. You need to eat a lot more if bulking is your goal. I'd add an omelet to your morning oatmeal. and throw an MRP or some other kind of high protein snack between your 1:30 and 6:30 meals. At 11:00 I'd have a cup of cottage cheese and a handfull of nuts or a protein shake with a couple Tbls of natural PB.
IMHO you are not eating any where near enough to gain mass.

Cool, thanks for all the answers (especially LAM, I had no idea about the simple sugars with whey in the morning).

I think I'm gonna barf half of this extra food I'll be putting down...for some reason I find eating a lot in the morning extremely difficult.

no problem...you can pretty much use anything like dextrose, sucrose or even a high GI fruit juice like pineapple etc for the simple sugars

LAM, what if your first meal of the day contains whey as its source of protein (oats and with whey and flax mixed in)? Is the whey still being oxidized or do the oats offset this effect?

the fiber from the oats should slow the modulation of the whey proteins so in "theory" that should be ok. but just to be safe I would still ingest a small serving of simple sugars, not much maybe like 20 grams. it could come from powdered sugars or fruit, juice etc...
