I would use a high carb (high GI sugar) protein shake first at 8:00 am. then follow that up with a small meal at 10:00 am. a meal containing low GI carbs will give you better performance during training as serum glucose levels will be more stable...

Sweet potatoe has approx 135 kcals per 4oz potato I believe. Think it contains around 35 grams of carbs.
