View Full Version : pre sleep protein

I am abit confused about what type and make of protein to consume before bed, any ideas? and should it include fats?

07-09-2001, 03:25 PM
Casein is probably your best bet. Include some EFAs and it will slow down absorbtion even more.

I agree that casein would be a good choice because of its relatively slow digestion and absorbtion. On the other hand, I'm not sure whether anybody has actually done a study to see whether the type of protein you eat at bedtime actually has any effect one way or another on factors like muscle size and strength. If you want to eat casein at bedtime (or any other time for that matter), a good source would be cottage cheese.

Okay Yates, share you recipe :)

Latman: eggs and PB? I eat some strange things but those two never crossed my mind... ;)

You know..a couple of associates and myself were trying to prove a hypothesis wrong, and we were unsuccessful.

Hypothesis: There Is no food in the world that does not go with either Peanut Butter OR Ketchup.

anyone willing to contest this?

The key word their is OR.

I happen to love both ketchup and peanut butter.

hmm..never had it, but i would think ketchup since you can put it on a hot dog...

hmm...good one b.

i've never had caviar with either....don't think it would taste good with ketchup.....you could possibly eat it with PB, though....(not that caviar should really be paired with anything, but...) that just might be a winner.

Edit: I spoke to soon....after a little research...voila:

4 ounces American Golden Caviar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup sour cream
2 tablespoons chopped chives
or scallions (green part only)
1/2 teaspoon crushed allspice
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 tablespoons vodka
2 teaspoons catsup

Will you marry me tryska!!! j/k I agree fully!!! I love carrots w/ketchup or w/PB. I will put ketchup on damn near anything. I'm a bit more selective with PB, but haven't experimented a whole lot.

hey tackleberry....get rid of the soulmate and i'm all yours baby! sike!

i know..i'm not really a ketchup fan myself, but i'm finding it damn hard to find a food that doesn't go with either..and my coworkers and i have been playing this game for months....

Tryska = too much free time.

And yes, cottage cheese and flax seed oil are somehow worked into my last meal of the day.

ok time to get flamed... ;)

bbq sauce is far superior to ketchup!

07-10-2001, 03:03 PM

You is gonna get flammed BBQ style...

07-10-2001, 03:03 PM
well i agree el pietro, and hot sauce is better then ketchup too....

but that's not the hypothesis.tuttut

07-10-2001, 03:04 PM
..Tina is gonna get spit roasted...

07-10-2001, 03:17 PM
hmmm...i'm gonna try bbq sauce as a celery dip tomorrow...

also try and add as many mofo spices as i can to a can of tuna and see if i can make it edible...the first attempt wit low fat mayo was a failure...mebbe if i combine bbq sauce, habenero, matouk (sp) and some tobasco, with a some fresh ground peppa. Mebbe i can fry my tastebuds so i don't taste it anymo...

tryska they haven't made ketchup flavoured ice cream yet...

07-10-2001, 05:57 PM
no el peitro.....BUT..ice cream goes with peanut butter.

again..EITHER ketchup OR peanut butter.

on a side note...your little tuna recipe doesn't sound half bad...

saute the tuna w/ a little olive oil, some seasonings and onion. kills the fishy smell, and makes it yummy.

07-12-2001, 12:36 PM
Marmite: you either love it...or hate it.

I have yet to find a person who agrees with the former...
