You're looking for condo's? Didn't you just finally get settled into the house your at now during the past year?

Happy to see you quit smokin'. Now keep it that way! *shakes fist in ElP's direction*

Yep, my house's one year anniversary is Oct. 22nd. I am no longer looking for condos. It's been a hectic week for me. Sent a bunch of listings to an agent and checked them out last week. Fell in love with a building right down the road from work, and almost all the units we looked at I liked. One in particular had granite counters and small island, with a built in bosch stainless steel oven, cooktop, and stainless steel fridge and range hood. This used to be an office building, that was converted to loft condos a few years ago. So wood floors, 10' ceilings, this unit had the exposed duct work. All the other units had it covered, but I like the exposed ducts.

Also the unit had a really long euro designed sink in the bathroom, with marble counter, glass mosaics everywhere, and a round stainless steel soaker tub. Really liked it needless to say.

So I figured I'd put an offer in this week, up until my agent calls me and says someone is putting in a bid on sunday. So I head down realizing that this is the worst case scenario that could happen. I needed to crush my opponent, so my first offer was $100 more than the asking price. This is the only way to do this and not get into a bidding war. Just go with the absolute max you will pay, and if the other party can come with a better offer I lose. But I didn't.

Bleh, did the paperwork a day ago to get my house listed, so hopefully it sells soon.

Last night I went to put an offer on another more expensive place for my mother. There were two to decide on, one she seemed to really like, but it was $5k more than the other, same footprint though. They were tough getting to drop the price much, in the end, I think I bought it for what she bought it for 3 years ago according to my agent. We only got it because she already was moving in with her lawyer husband, and just needed to sell, plus my agent told a nice sob story about my dad dying and me needing to take care of momma. Anyway, the few thousand more was worth seeing how happy she was. She was like a kid on christmas morning, so I was happy.

So, now I have two condos and a house. Need to drop the house though. Selling it for a mucho good price just to get things over with quickly as well. All this and I'm only about $50,000 over my original budget.

Hello El-Secondo-Mortgago.

Thanks guys, once I got the house sold I'm sure stress will go back down, and I'll be able to renew my "quit smoking" efforts again.

Not worried so much on it getting sold, but my mom has an ulcer, so I worry more about her since she is the world's biggest worry wart, so it always acts up when "big stuff" has to get done.

Bah...momma's boy!

lol...I'm the same way.

Congrats on the condo. I'm looking for a loft/condo. I plan on buying in the next year or so...my biggest concern is proximity to work though.

Anyhow...Nov. 28 it is then.

Thanks guys, actually, after reviewing finances, it may not be too bad after all. Will go variable with the second mortgage, and reduce my payments on the original mortgage to normal levels. I was paying accelerated bi-weekly with some extra cash on top of that, so I'll juts go regular, and with the reduced mortgage I'll be paying $100 less a month on that one.

Forgot my journal in the car, but I believe I remember everything from the workout yesterday.

It was leg day, but I was itching to get my deadlifts going again. Other than the brief deadlifting done in maine with the girls, I haven't deadlifted since my competition in July.

DeAdLiFtS!

225x5/225x5/315x5/405x3/495x1/495x1/315x8/315x5

*Man it felt great to deadlift again. The second rep of 495 was slow, but made it up. What I laughed about was the 315x8. This was done superfast, was more like cardio than anything else. Probably took 10 seconds at the most, of course done that fast it was hitting the floor but whatever, with that weight it's just speed work anyway.

Leg Extensions:

245x8/300x8/300x8

Lying Hammy Curls:

105x8/120x8/120x8

Standing Calf Raise machine:

300x8/350x8/390x8

*can't really remember exact poundages here. 390 is the whole stack so I know I did that at least. It's only calves anyway, so who really cares.

Bleh, felt drained, so that was pretty much it.

If I can make it through the weekend with a decent diet, I should break into the 230's for weight next week. Got down to 241.something but then was 242 this morning (went out for lunch yesterday). Of course, I just finished an assorted sub, so might be up a bit too. Would like to get into the low 230s, but haven't been tracking diet strictly, so I know protein has been quite low.

House is now listed on MLS, so some fooker better come buy it soon. I listed it at quite a bargain price, especially since it'll appreciate by another $20-25k by this time next year once they get the go station nearby done, and the plaza on the corner constructed.

Well, this has been a very productive week for me.

Sunday, I bought my condo, wednesday, I bought my mother's condo, and then this sunday, I have sold my house. All closing dates the same day, january 14th. This is somewhat miraculous, since wanting two units in the same building, and selling a house, and wanting them all to close on the same day is no easy task. But I managed to do it in a week.

I was all smiles until I realized a most greivous miscalculation on my spreadsheet, to do with mortgages. Apparently, I ****ed up to the tune of $50,000. Oh well, it will only mean things will be a bit tighter than I thought, but should be fine. I will make up most of that money in gas savings.

Trying to sell as much stuff as I can that I don't need anymore, just to get a bit of extra cash to finish whatever furnishing needs I'll have when moving in.

Also, probably because I've been busy buying properties, I have eaten quite sparsely, and my weight cracked the 240 mark, coming in at 239.6 this morning.

Here are yesterday's and today's workouts.

Chest Day:

Flat BB Bench:

135x8/135x8/225x5/275x2/315x1/225x8

Incline Machine Press:

180x8/200x8/200x8

Machine Shoulder Press:

135x8/180x6

Triceps Pushdowns:

195x8/210x8/210x8/210x6

1-arm Tri Pulls:

45x8/45x8/45x6

That's it, had to workout at lunch, so couldn't spend to much time there. No time for cardio either.

Today's lunch session.

CG Lat Pulldowns:

150x8/180x8/210x8/225x5/210x6

HS High Row:

150x8/250x6/250x6/230x8

DB Rows:

120x8/120x8

DB Concentration Curls:

50x6/50x5/35x8

DB Hammer Curls:

35x8/30x6/30x8

That's it again. Worked out at lunch since I'm taking a work female to teh movies tonight.

Nah, I was 249.something at the start. This morning I was 238.0 though. :)

Here's yesterday's workout. Was just going to do leg press, but then my back was feeling better, so decided to do deads again.

Conventional Deads:

135x5
225x5
315x5
405x3
495x1
525x1
545x1

*Well, I was really pleased with myself. Only two sessions and I'm back to my gym max. Although, 545 was slow and ugly, but considering I had just done 5 plates and then 525, I was surprised I still had enough gas to pull my gym PR after all that. I might try again in 2 weeks and with a better warmup strategy, try for a new personal best.

Leg Extensions:

200x8/250x8/250x8/250x8

Lying Hammy Curls:

105x8/120x8/120x8

Standing Calf Machine:

300x8/390x8/390x8

Finished with a quick 10 minutes on the ellyptical.

Yours may be soar, but mine is sore.

Actually, it's not bad at all today. Will keep stretching it as much as possible for the inevitable pain to follow. It took almost an entire week for my traps to stop burning. All in all, not bad though, considering I did lats the day before.

Well, debating going to the gym or not today. Been stressed out trying to get all the real estate stuff settled and final, and managing a charity event that is more effort than it's worth, but it's finally over today as well. I feel drained, but that could be from the deadlifts yesterday.

As a result of all this, I haven't been too focused on eating much, so weight has come down quite quickly. This morning I was 236.8 lbs. Down 1.2 lbs from yesterday.

No, don't have time, although, when I move I'll think about it again. But then again, when I move I'm gonna be one broke sumbitch so dunno if I can afford it. Maybe i'll just watch bruce lee movies more often.

Well, managed to go to the gym on friday, had a decent session diet was "ok" over the weekend. Went up about a pound and a half which isn't too bad. Just water which will go away in the next couple days. Had doritos but not the whole bag. Got kinda hammered saturday night, so when I got home I decided to sit in the basement and open the bag up.

I'll post friday's workout later, but got to the gym at lunch for cardio. Bike 10 minutes, ellyptical 20.

ElPietro
10-26-2004, 11:43 AM
As per plan, after one day, I've removed the excess water from the weekend, was back down to last weeks low of 236.8 lbs. Hope to get sub 235 this week. I will deliver unto you a before/after worthy of Muscletech!

Lunchtime Abs + Cardio:

DB Sidebends: 65x8/75x10/65x10
Straight Leg Raises: x8/x8/x8

20 minutes on the ellyptical.

I'll post Friday's workout, and then last nights workout consecutively.

Friday's Schtuff:

Incline DB Press:

55x8/65x8/85x8/95x5/95x5

*Meh, it's been a loooong time since I did db pressing so this was "ok" I guess.

DB Pec Flyes:

40x8/40x8

Machine Shoulder Press:

135x8/180x8/180x5/165x8

30x8/30x8

Cable Crunches:

105x12/105x12

Finished with 15-20 minutes on the ellyptical, can't remember now, but pretty sure it was 20 minutes.

Last nights schtuff:

DB Incline Bench:

55x8/75x8/95x8/95x5/75x8

DB Pec Flyes:

45x8/45x8

Triceps Pushdowns:

195x8/195x8/195x8/195x6/195x6

Lateral DB Flyes:

DB Front Raise:

25x8/30x8/25x8

1 arm Tri Pulldowns:

45x8/60x8/60x8/60x8

Neglected cardio after this session. That's it.

Yes, that's two chest sessions in a row. I am trying to do chest and back twice a week, while technically I only did one lat workout, I wasn't able to mix in a second one since I did deadlifts on wednesday. So I guess I could count that as some additional back work.

Speaking of which, lats tonight.

Ugh, I may be losing weight TOO fast now. I got into a meeting yesterday that went much longer than expected. As a result during the day I had maybe 500 total calories, and then dinner was pretty light as well. Probably under 1200 for the day, which isn't even enough for a 130 lb girl to cut on.

Went to the gym last night, I'll post it later since I don't have my journal handy.

But in one day I went from 236.8 to 233.8!

Gonna try and get more calories in today, but restrict saturated fats so I don't rebound too much. Maybe go grab some sushi rolls and beef sashimi for lunch. Gonna really try and focus on upping my protein intake over the next few weeks as well, since I'm probably losing more muscle than I had in my past cut.

Man, I didn't fathom having the potential to get in the 220s for really starting to cut maybe 4-5 weeks ago, but it's certainly looking doable as long as I don't hit a wall. It's amazing that I can get these kinda results when finally controlling diet, and scraping by the weekends with only moderately bad eating habits. I guess weekly starvation is the key to my success. :p

Bitches.

I have been training regularly, but have been to lazy to keep track in the gym, so haven't posted here.

The past two weeks I attempted deadlift PRs and failed on both. Guess I can't expect new records whilst cutting. Tried 565 one week, then 555 the next and both were a no go.

I ate kinda bad on the weekend, and the weight went up to almost 239, but it was mostly water, as this morning I weighed in at 233.something. I'll be really tightening things up for the last two weeks, and will enjoy wearing the t-shirt one of you gelatinous homos purchase for me. :)

ElPietro
11-22-2004, 11:26 AM
Bleh, was mucho tired today. In fact, my hamstrings are quite sore from helping at the powerlifting comp yesterday. Being a loader/spotter sucks ass. Oh well, at least I got some activity over the weekend for once. Got to see a 295kg bench too, then he failed on a 305 attempt, but just attempting that is mind blowing to me.

Was trying to keep a better diet this weekend, but failed somewhat. Last night I weighed 237.0, this morning I weighed 235.4, which means tomorrow morning after cardio and workout I'll probably be around 232-233. I wanted to get into the high 220s but it may be a difficult task with only a week left.

I am wrestling with continuing this cut, or upping the calories and doing some power training for a couple months. I'm somewhat disappointed in how things look, but I think this is a matter of protein intake, and it being quite low over this cut. I haven't been supplementing at all, so I probably have lost some muscle, which is usually something I don't do even on a cut. It's always tough to tell in the mirror, versus pics though, so I'll just have to wait and see.

This afternoons cardio:

Bike: 10 minutes.
Cybex machine: 25 minutes.

Tonight is pressing stuff.

ElPietro
11-24-2004, 08:33 AM
Ugh, I screwed up yesterday and barely ate. Forgot to eat lunch, I'm pretty sure all I had during the day yesterday, was a bit of pineapple and a small protein bar. So until dinner calories were about 300. Then for dinner all I had was a pork chop. It showed on the scale this morning, as it kept flipping between 229.8 and 230.0, finally settling on 230. I'm sure it'll rebound up a bit if I eat too much so trying to be careful at this point.

Add in that I did a little bit of cardio at lunch yesterday, and then did a lat workout and a bit more cardio afterwards, I was probably close to negative on calories for the day.

Spent about 10 minutes showing a guy at work (technically my boss) how to properly squat. I'll be training him in the ways of teh power for now. Let's see how far I can get a scrawny dude into the world of strength and powerlifting.

No lunchtime workout today. Tonight is legs though.

ElPietro
11-26-2004, 09:08 AM
Well, I managed to keep the rebound away for now. Mostly through not eatin much still. :( Anyway, this morning I weighed in at 228.something...I think it was .4 but can't recall for sure. I think this is the lightest I've been since my first year of university 10 years ago. Only I wasn't working out at all back then. I wish I would have started earlier, since when I ballooned up with my first desk job, the stretch marks are quite unsightly. Coulda avoided all that if I'd have taken action. I'm happy, but would have hoped for more at this weight. I think I may be a bit flat due to lack of overall calories, so maybe a little carb up will fill things in a bit. I haven't kept protein up, so I'm guessing mucho muscle loss from this so far.

I even did stiff-legged deadlifts on tuesday. This is the first time back to this exercise since I tore my hamstring on it 2 years ago. Kept it light though, 5 sets, last two were with 275. Did them after some light squats, which I also have only done maybe 2 or 3 squat sessions in the last 5 months. Lowerback was sore the day after, hammies are feeling it today. I think I will incorporate this back into whatever training I go forward with.

I think I'll take a week or two of maintenance calories, and then continue to cut a bit more. I will go back to some form of power training, but don't think I'll compete till spring or summer of next year. Maybe I'll even fit easily into my squat suit, so I don't just lift in a singlet next time. Bad when I'm squatting low 400s and guys much smaller are hitting 500+.

Went out on lunchbreak this week and spent over $500 on sweaters, so I better not gain weight again and not fit properly in them! :p

After this contest, if anyone wants to start a new one up, that ends say february sometime, I'm game for another go at it. Looks like 2/4ths of the competitors are bulking now though.

rookiebldr
11-26-2004, 02:30 PM
228, damn you've done well on the weight loss. I remember the last time you were at close to that weight that you finally didn't look so much like a powerlifter. ;)
You can only gain muscle back. Then if the sweaters don't fit it's for a good reason.

And I dropped $600 on a suit, shirt and some ties.

Thanks d00ds...although, I don't really have to, I will now post a couple before and a few after shots here. Allow me to preface this first though. I took many shots, but sitting the camera on "stuff" and trying to get the angle right for a timed shot is not easy. Second, and more importantly, the after shots, taken last weekend, are first thing in the morning, so no pump, or any of that BS. Pardon the wake-up hairdo, and the unshaven face, but who cares. It's amazing the difference a pump makes...I get comments in the guys change room, and most of these guys are straight even! :p

I am by no means satisfied with how I currently look. I thought I'd appear better, and although I weigh in at 228.4 lbs (249 lbs in the befores) in these pics, it was a pretty dry weight, so it shot up a bit after some loose eating. Muscles were really flat. I think having seen this, I will make a good effort to get down to 220. This would be perfect since it would then put me in the 100kg weight class for powerlifting, just not sure how I'll properly bulk/cut and what I'll be at for this spring/summer.

Anyway, enough ramble...be kind. Yes I know I have stretchmarks o' plenty so no need to inform me.

First pic is pretty blurry, but you get the idea, second is quite similar but a bit more clear. I guess I can only upload 5 at a time so I'll post the rest in a second thread.

nice work, skinny

looks like the cut done ya good; hitting the same poses for before and after would have been more instructive in terms of showing the actual progress but it's pretty clear progress was made

the trick now will be keeping the bulk slow and controlled and maintaining your new, lower BF

ElPietro

I ain't bulking, i'm just taking a week off and then back to cutting for another couple months. Just not as drastic a cut as before...since 95% of my progress was made in the last 5 or 6 weeks.

Great work Petey.

Did you do a bf% check before and after, or just weight?

Well my scale automatically displays bodyfat percentage, but it varies a ton. I think when I first started it was in the low 20% range, maybe as high as 23% in the morning?

Now depending on hydration I'm seeing anywhere from 14% to 18%. 18% is right in the morning when i'm dehydrated. 14% was after the weekend when I eat and drank poorly, so quite hydrated then. I don't know if I'm overly critical or not, but I'd still guess me at around 18%, there's still a lot of work to be done. If you think it's higher I'd be interested in hearing your guesses...just for sh!ts and giggles.

Thanks for the feedback ppl.

Thanks for the comments guys, feel free to be brutally honest if you can. I am a big boy and can handle it. I'd rather here objective criticism any day of the week.

Ok, I haven't posted workouts in a while, I've been working out, but not recording stuff. Started again this week, so I'll post the three I've done so far.

Monday was push stuff.

Flat BB Bench:

135x8/135x8/225x5/245x5/255x4/225x8

*Nothing to failure, didn't bother with asking for a spot. Just benching to keep used to it. I might start focusing more on triceps strength though. So I might stop benching for a bit, and just go with close grip bench, or pin press with heavy skulls.

Skulls:

110x6/110x6

DB Flyes:

35x8/35x8/35x8

**Meh, didn't intend to do these, I was going to do dips. But the fcuking idiots that run the gym decided to create a dedicated frickin ab room upstairs, so in their infinite fcuking wisdom put the two dip stations up there. I argued like hell with one of the managers, basically asking him why idiots who don't train and obviously have no clue what working out means are putting dip stations upstairs just so fools who only train abs can do leg raises. Like they couldn't leave one bloody station downstairs? It was a lost cause and these people are obviously devoid of any shred of training knowledge. They are now braindead walking zombies to me. Tried the following day to get a PT to talk some sense into them, but he failed too. Everyone agrees with me, except these stupid ass thunder-pigeons that think they are making "improvements."

At this point I was quite pissed so didn't do much else.

1-arm Tri Pulldowns:

60x6/60x8/65x6

Atlantis Shoulder Press:

135x8/180x6/195x5/180x6

Finished with 15 minutes on the cybex ellyptical thingy. I did a short lunch time cardio session that day as well. But now that I've taken my boss under my wing, most afternoons are spent teaching him proper form, and going through the program I designed for him.

ElPietro
12-01-2004, 11:39 AM
Tuesday was pull stuff.

CG Lat Pulldowns:

150x8/180x8/210x6/225x6/240x6/255x4

*Cool, I actually felt strong on these. Don't usually go that high...if I used the form most guys use at the gym I'd probably do the whole stack of 300...but I have zero upper torso movement on these.

DB Rows:

120x8/120x8

HS High Row:

180x8/230x6/230x6

Chins:

x5/x5

**Heh, I used these to warmup for stuff last week, and did 8 quick reps easy, but I guess at the end of a back workout it's not so simple. I did them slow and controlled, going all the way down to the bottom till I was just hanging there with no tension before starting the next one. Much tougher this way!

DB Concentration Curls

50x5/35x8/35x6

DB Hammer Curls:

30x8/30x8/30x8

***First set was done one handed cross body as I normally do em, then last two sets I decided to switch to the front method with both hands. Wow is that so much easier. I was just too lazy to grab heavier dumbells. Who cares about arms anyway.

Rear Delt Cable Raise:

30x8/30x8/35x8

That's it. Finished with another 15 minutes of cardio on the cybex. Ate a lot of candy that day to satisfy my craving, but didn't eat dinner, so I guess it balances out...err...sorta.

ElPietro
12-01-2004, 11:43 AM
Today at lunch, some leg stuff.

Squats:

135x5/135x5/225x3/275x3/315x2

*Heh, before anyone laughs, this workout was simply to tell my body I will start squatting again. So yeah the weight is light, and it still felt tough. I probably should have been squatting all along, but whatever. Shut up.

SLDL:

135x6/225x5/275x5/295x5

**Still taking things very slow here. This is only my second time back since the hamstring tear on them two years ago, so of course I'm still pretty hesitant. Maybe these will help my girly deadlift get going again.

Leg Extensions:

240x8/270x8/300x8

That's it, no time for cardio after the workout. Made sure my trainee was sufficiently ass-kicked doing his deads, helped him with some other stuff in between as well. I will take him from being a tall skinny-fat weakling to a tall all-powerful competing powerlifter that cracks walnuts with his buttocks!

Are you saying I'm wrenching that pinky up with bad form f00!?

Speaking of Ultimate, I have been contemplating going back. Just trying to figure out time and budget constraints. I'm guessin the price has gone up since I was there last. Dunno if they'll give me my old rate again. Pretty sure they have their BJJ class going too, so might do that as well as thai boxing, depending on costs. Nothing would help me cut more than getting back to thai boxing. I'm also generally a much happier person after kicking the living sh!t out of stuff.

PizDoff

One of my other TO maritial arts brothers would like to know what gym that pinkie picture is from.

I don't know if they call their submission grappling stuff BJJ, since I think it is MMA comp oriented and they do no-gi. Still have a couple friends there and recently got one high school friend back in training, and training at Ultimate.

12-02-2004, 11:44 AM
Well I have no idea who they are, but didn't talk to many of the students, just some of the trainers. It's been probably a good couple years I think since I've been, and would only go at most 3 times a week, for the 6pm class weekdays, since I lived pretty far away.

When I first started I trained mostly with Francis, and I can't remember some of the other guys names now. I used to do some sparring for a while, mostly when an instructor from Brampton was teaching (can't remember his name, but then he left and I stopped going shortly after).

I was always generally the biggest guy there, and often would train on the heavy bag instead of a partner, I guess some guys didn't want to absorb my kicks with the focus pads. :p

Regarding that post you sent me, when I started there, Omar was still teaching BJJ, then I stopped going for a while, and when I came back and spoke to Omar about joining the class, he left shortly after that, so that was that. Did some thai there for a while more, than left again, started doing BJJ for about 6 months at Karma Martial arts in woodbridge. Probably one of the top places for BJJ in Canada, with some great competitors. May have gone back to ultimate again for a few months, can't remember, it was kinda inconvenient with me living so far away, but now when I move in January it'll only be a 10 minute drive from home, so I might go back.

ElPietro
12-02-2004, 11:47 AM

ElPietro
12-02-2004, 02:31 PM
Well I'm giving names and time frames so your internet friends can determine whether or not they trained when I was there. Bah.

Paul probably jacked up the rates anyway, but last time I went he gave me the old cheaper rate. It's been so long dunno if he'll still do that though. It's always fun having constant aches and pains with bruises o'plenty, and then trying to powerlift too.

I became somewhat disenchanted because there aren't many, if any guys at my weight that are competitive in thai boxing. So even if I got to that level, which I wasn't, it would be tough to ever find people to matchup against.

Here's thursday's workout, had friday off so no workout then.

Was bench, but decided to do some speed bench.

Flat BB Bench (speed):

Warmup: 135x8/135x8/225x8/275x3+1
Speed sets: 6 sets of 3 using 185 (2 grips)

*Ugh, been a long time since I did these, and also haven't really trained for strength on bench in months, so lol I couldn't even get 4 reps of 275 out without a spotter helping a bit. 185 speed was "ok," but on some reps shoulder starting giving me a bit of pain. I guess I just need to start building up strength a bit.

Triceps Pushdowns:

195x8/195x8/210x8

1 arm Triceps Pulldowns:

60x8/60x8

Atlantis Shoulder Press:

135x8/180x6/195x5

Finished with 15 minutes on the ellyptical.

Short and sweet, was feeling lazy, and technically it was an extra workout anyway.

Went out on my day off and bought me a nice new coffee table, 6 dining room chairs, and some plates. Yes, very exciting.

However! Today, I went out and finally got me an MP3 player. I got the iRiver iFP-790T. It's totally sweet! I did my homework and this thing sounds awesome. I've heard of other MP3 players that aren't loud enough, this one is plenty loud on half volume. The only problem is I can't figure out how it attaches to the arm band, and even then the armband doesn't really fit on my arm anyway. It's still tight if I leave it near my elbow. I might have to check out the better band they sell, or make sure my workout pants have pockets. I don't think I'd like it hanging from my neck.

Time to get a fanny pack.

Oh, and I hear ya on the traffic. Took me 3 hours as well, most of which was spent on avenue road because a bunch of dickless morons were trying to get up the hill south of st.clair on summer tires and sliding all over the G.D. road.

Damn Toronto drivers don't have a frickin' clue. **** man, I've had snow tires on my cars for a MONTH now. Don't have to wait till there's actually SNOW on the ground, it's all about ambient temperature.... so long as it's down NEAR zero most of the time, the winter tires won't wear out too fast (which is what people are worried about) so instead they wait until the snowfall and then drive like the dolts that they are for the day or two it takes them to schedule an appointment and then wait in line for hours at Active Green + Ross or whatever.

Due to arriving at work so ****ing late I didn't make it for lunchtime cardio. Would have done cardio after my workout after work but had to go inspect my condos.

So, did a bit of bench stuff.

Flat BB Bench:

135x8/135x8/225x5/275x2/295x1/305x1/315x1/225x8

*Just trying to tell my body that it will have to start benching soon. 315 was actually tough, but given my state, I'm surprised I got it at all. It was a bit off balance but the spotter just corrected one side slightly. The big meatheads were upset I didn't ask them for a spot when I had a girl spotting me on the two heavy-ish sets. :D

Flat DB Flyes:

45x8/45x8

Incline Machine Press:

200x8/200x8/200x8 (stack)

**First 5 or 6 reps of each of these were pretty much speed reps.

Triceps Cable Pushdowns:

195x8/210x8/210x8/225x6/235x6

***225 is the entire stack, 235 is with the two 5 lbs drop down weights.

DB Lateral Raise:

30x8/35x8

DB Front Raise:

25x8/30x8

1-arm Triceps Cable Pulldowns:

60x8/60x8/65x8

Think that was about it. Was great having the mp3 player there, although, I found it hard to focus on heavy singles on bench, so I'd take the earplugs out for the couple heavy ones. I don't make eye-contact with people there, so now that I can't hear them, there's almost no way for someone to approach me. :p

ElPietro
12-07-2004, 08:06 AM
Bill, yeah no shirt of course, I've never actually done a training session with the shirt before. Just a quick tryout a couple times with a few reps and then for one lift in competition, that's it.

Lol the one meathead was upset because he's always the guy who spots me, and the girl is his friend as well, so when he saw me bring her over to spot for over 300lbs he was just like wtf. The funny part was I guess she was pleased I asked her for a spot on anything heavy, and then she tried to start coaching me too! :p I'm mid rep and she's like, "breathe!" Lol, all I could think was stfu I know how to bench!

CHRIStian, concentration curls are on lat/bi day silly. That would be today. :) I might try something else, but I don't really care about what I do for direct biceps work, and DBs don't cause me the wrist aggravation that straight or cambered bar curls have in the past.

Yes Soba-san, that must be it. ;)

Finally got in for some lunchtime cardio. Me and my MP3 player got on the cybex ellyptical and set it for 20 minutes. Cardio seemed to be a breeze while listening to some good wholesome angry tunes, so I bumped it to 25 minutes. With a minute left, my MP3 player, set to shuffle, selected a pretty good song, so I bumped the cardio another 5 minutes. So all in all 30 minutes of cardio and I coulda easily kept going if it weren't my lunch break.

I'm pleased with my new little buddy, it will either help facilitate further weight loss, or enable me to remain as festively plump as I currently am whilst increasing TBI.

Do you like the quesadillas? I found this sauce recipe for them -

1/4 cup mayonnaise
2 teaspoons minced jalapeno slices
2 teaspoons juice from jalapeno slices
1 packet Splenda (maybe a little less)
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
dash salt

The sauce is hands down the best part. Looks like it'd be great for a low carb diet.

ElPietro
12-07-2004, 11:42 AM
Looks good, and with low carb tortilla wraps you could probably do this pretty regularly and stay on track.

Do you normally use regular mayo when dieting? And regular cheese?

galileo
12-07-2004, 11:54 AM
I use fat-free cheese during refeeds, but I've not done a real ketogenic diet in a long-ass time, so I've not the occasion.

If I did a ketogenic diet, things like this would be a staple - with real mayo and shredded hard cheeses. Oh yeah, Fibercon too.

Finished off with 20 minutes of cardio. I was drained, set it for 20 minutes, then adjusted it to 15 minutes, then in the last minute I upped it back to 20.

Calories are probably low today, so good.

Legs tomorrow.

Finally made it in for a leg session at lunch.

Didn't go yesterday since someone showed up at work so we went out for a bite, and then had to go buy some furniture downtown after work, and got roped into a couple beers and a steak at the bar i work at occaisionally.

Squats:

135x5/135x5/225x5/275x3/315x2/335x1/355x1/375x1/225x8

*Meh, my squats will probably take another couple weeks to get going again. I just gas out so easily on them. I attribute this to never having done anything remotely high-ish in rep range. I'm pondering some form of dedicated squat cycle, either going back to a more westside approach, or perhaps a bastardization of some form of HST microcycle. All sets were competition depth other than perhaps the 375 and maybe 355. Not too worried on depth for heavy singles right now, just trying to acclimate myself to non-pussy weight.

SLDL

135x5/225x5/275x5/315x5

**Still going easy on these. I'll slowly bring em up, and hopefully it'll help with the deadlift when they become more of a focus.

Leg Extensions:

250x8/250x8

***Didn't really have much time for these, had to use the older machine, and it only goes to 250.

The big thing I've found on DC stuff is that heavy leg work, especially heavy compound movements, are DAMN hard to get any kind of reppage going. I mean it's one thing to do 8 reps but trying to extend that same weight out to 15 reps is killing me on some stuff... especially squats and GMs.

ElPietro
12-09-2004, 12:57 PM
Well for squats I mean anything higher than 5 reps. I'm so used to doing 5 reps or less for any working set that my legs seem to just gas out if I try to do more. So I can either keep going as I have, or maybe start with light weight in the 6-10 rep range and bring it up slowly, and then drop to a few weeks of 5 reps and then after that move into heavy singles, doubles or triples and see where i'm at.

By the time I was done coaching/spotting my boss all the ellypticals were taken, so I banished myself to the upright bike. Did 25 minutes, with the last minute or so at 90-100 rpm.

Think I'll start this squat thingy tonight. Gonna try two working sets 3 times per week, 8-10 reps the first two weeks, then 5-6 reps the next two, starting at 225 and working up +10 lbs per session and see how that goes. I'll use one of the 3 days for a full leg workout.

dude I wouldn't waste my time with a Bills game any more than you would

based on the formula we used, any game within 500 or so miles of Toronto is doable, and that includes Bears, Bengals, Browns, Lions, Colts, Giants, Jets, Eagles, Steelers, Patriots, Ravens & Redskins.

The bus winds up costing about $300-350 per person, maybe more or less depending on how far away the game is (Pittsburgh cheaper than Baltimore, for instance) and anything more than 450 miles incurs a surcharge from the bus driver... we could save a big chunk of that if we had a bus driver for free, if someone knew a driver or was a driver

anyway, it wound up costing around $500 per person, full details in my journal.

ElPietro
12-13-2004, 12:35 PM
Colts would be my pick for a future event.

Give Alexander a pep talk for me dude. Oh and throw a bottle at Pennington's head. Either he'll wake up, or hurt himself, and then maybe Moss will have fantasy value again! :swear:

At least I won the regular season in my league. So that's a nice $700 payout, with some playoff love still to come.

Kinda regret trading for Alexander though, gave up Dillon, and he's outproduced S.A. ever since. Not to mention the receivers I gave up. :(

ericg
12-13-2004, 12:45 PM
Ok will do. I have Hasselback and Darrel Jackson, well thats if i win this week. Im in the first week of playoffs right now; I am up 60 points and he has Tony G and Bennet of the chiefs. Both of us had awesome weeks so i bet if the loser played anyone else he would have won, thats the way it goes.

Yeah Dillon is having a good year. I just picked up J Jones a couple weeks ago, I was suprised to see him on the waiver wire when Dallas activated him. He has done pretty well for me since Jamal Lewis is hurt.

ElPietro
12-13-2004, 12:57 PM
I have Jackson as well, nice to see him producing again. JJ has done "pretty well?" That's gotta be the understatement of the season. I had to face that bitch and Peyton Manning on Turkey day. So yeah, 6tds from manning, and 2 from JJ along with his 200 yards or whatever it was. I still only lost by 5 points though. Made things in my league go right down to the wire too.

Relentless
12-13-2004, 01:00 PM
Bah you guys have had it easy.

Both my starting Rbs went down with injuries, one permanently this season (S. Davis and D. Davis). I also had Santana Moss and various other WRs that grossly underproduced.

If it wasn't for Tiki Barber I'd have missed the playoffs this season entirely. As it is, he's now also next to worthless with that rookie Manning making a hash of the Giants offense.

ericg
12-13-2004, 01:00 PM
I agree about JJ. Im in a keeper league so i think he will be one of the two i will keep for next year. it will only cost me a transaction since that is how i aquired him. Also going to keep Antonio Gates - he was a steal. I got him in the 12th RD, no one knew who he was....

I should be scouting for a pro team somewhere...

Meh, yesterday wasn't the best of sessions.

Flat BB Bench:

135x8/135x8/225x5/275x3/315x0.8/255x5/225x6

*Damnit. I was confused when I failed on 315, since it was almost at lockout. When I sat up and the pain kinda went through my back, I realized that I must have strained it a bit with maybe too tight an arch or something. This has happened numerous times in the past, so I only became moderately angry.

Incline Machine Press:

200x8/200x8/200x8

Skulls:

110x8/x 6 or 8

**I tried to see if I could do skulls on the flat bench with the oly bar, but there's no room for me to slide further down the bench, so the bar will catch on the gun rack part of the bench. 110 is the highest fixed cambered bar set they have. So I guess I"ll have to find a bar and load it up to progress further.

Triceps Cable Pushdowns:

210x8/210x6

1 arm tri pulldowns:

60x6/60x5

Squats:

135x5/135x6/225x10/225x8

***Ok, I felt like crap at this point. I guess being in a big caloric deficit, doing a fairly intense cardio session on the bike at lunch, then going through a bench workout, and then trying to squat is not optimal. Felt quite sick, and I probably ate a protein bar too close to workout, since it seemed to be sitting somewhere around my neck most of the session. Also, my back was killing, I guess aggravating it on bench, squatting made it even worse. Bah.

So feeling like sh!t, having a sore back, ready to throw up, I decided to punish myself a bit more, so did a quick 15 minutes on the ellyptical.

Thanks guys, err..and girl that lifts like a guy...a strong guy.

My cut is just beginning. So things look somewhat sloppy right now. Sunday I was up to 238, but that's mainly water, as after one day of training again i'm down to 234. Also, started taking a bit of creatine, albeit irregularly. That will throw off the numbers somewhat due to retention as well. I'm thinking I won't be dieting too hardcore for a bit, just more or less during the week, keeping things pretty strict, and doing cardio, but being a little more loose on the weekends. If I find the desire I might be a bit more strict on weekends though, just gonna see how I feel. Probably moot point with the holidays coming up.

ElPietro

Lunchtime lat-ness.

Close Grip Pulldowns:

150x8/180x8/210x6/270x5/270x3/240x6/210x8

*Woo, actual strength. Was gonna just go to my previous heaviest of 255, but then a decent tune came on the mp3 player and I went for 270. Was surprised I got 5, and almost had 6. May have actually had it but memory fails me, so 5 it is. Only 2 more plates of 15 and I'll own teh stack.:cool:

DB Rows:

120x8/120x8

**Meh, I'm getting tired of these. They take a lot out of me, despite 120 not being heavy enough. I know if I did a set of 150 the 120s would feel like nothing. Unfortunately 120 is the heaviest it goes at this gym. Mebbe I'll move on to BB Rows instead. Don't feel like going through the trouble of strapping my hand to the cambered bar for these to increase poundage.

Chins:

x5/x4

***Heh.

DB Concentration Curls:

50x5/35x8

DB Hammer Curls:

35x8/45x5

Rear Delt Cable Raise:

30x8/45x5/35x8

****Bleh, 30 feels like nothing, 45 felt heavy as hell, and then 35 I was basically just throwing them back. Me no understand.

DB Shrugs:

95x8/110x8

*****Didn't feel like going back to work yet so thought I'd just let my traps know I hadn't forgotten about them. It sorta feels pointless with this weight though.

That's it.

Can't wait to move. Then I won't be restricted to only weekdays for workouts. So I can maybe spread things out a bit more, and actually have rest days and workout on the weekend. Might go back to my old fun push/pull/legs/deadlifts split.

Squats:

135x3/135x3/225x3/275x3/315x3/365x1/225x8

*Depth was good on 365. Don't really like squatting in my old crosstrainers though. All sets were done explosively, other than 365, which was slow. With the final set of 225 the bar would come up off my back a bit at the top.

45 Degree Leg Press:

540x8/720x8/810x8/720x8/630x10

**Last set of 630, first six reps were done explosively.

There is virtually no point to kicking much above the waist, and even then it isn't very effecient. Mid thigh is where I will always target. Well, unless I REALLY don't like the person, then it would be the knee.

Good squats mang. I'm gonna have to try for max one of these days. What do you think might be my max if I can do 275x6?

ElPietro
12-16-2004, 08:10 AM
Dunno man, some people can rep out weight but have a lower max, I'm sorta the opposite. If you can do 275x6 your max could be anywhere from 335-400+.

Guido
12-16-2004, 08:46 AM
Wow. I don't think I could do 400, though, without killing myself. I think my grip at this point would limit me anyway.

ElPietro
12-16-2004, 08:53 AM
Grip? On squats? My hands aren't even closed when I squat, so not sure what you mean there.

I guess my point was that some people like myself, who haven't trained much outside the 5 rep range, struggle with almost any weight for more than a few reps, but when it comes to a single rep I can still keep going up in weight. Some that train more conventionally, that are used to squatting higher reps might not have that same power in the lower ranges.

Only way to find out is to test it. You should be good for a low to mid 300s squat anyway.

Depth is also an issue, until I see someone squat, or know they've been coached on squats, I don't put too much creedence in their "ass to the floor" or "well below parallel" comments. It's easy to think you are, or even what you see in the mirror, but a side shot will always tell a different story. Most people sit down, instead of back on their squats, this pretty much makes parallel impossible, since their stomach or chest will hit their legs before getting their hips down.

But good luck, let me know how it goes.

Focused70
12-16-2004, 08:59 AM
I haven't been coached on squats specifically but I know that *my* form probably sucks eggs.

If you want to find out your max then train it. These calculators are worthless.

Went for some lunchtime speed bench work.

Speed Bench:

Warmup: 135x8/135x8/225x5

Speed Sets: 6 sets 3 @185 lbs. ~3 seconds break in between, using 3 grips.

*Meh, speed is not good, and elbows started going numb. I guess I can't just go back to speed work with normal percentages and expect things to be as they were. Kinda irritating, but whatever.

Atlantis Shoulder Press:

135x8/165x6/210x5/180x6

1 Arm Triceps Cable Pulldowns:

45x6/60x6/60x6

Finished with 15 minutes on the ellyptical.

Short session, didn't want to push anything much today, saving some strength for tonight/tomorrows move.

You're lucky I don't hit girls...hard. ;)

Maybe I should change that rule to not hitting people who can't bench over 150 lbs instead. Then you'd be fair game! :p

You should check these shoe's out. Flat solid sole and great ankle supposrt. I bought a pair and love them.

ElPietro
12-16-2004, 01:41 PM
Yeah, I think they are just wrestling shoes, which are common for plifting. Do you find much of an advantage from them over something like Chuck Taylor's though? Or have you had Chucks before?

Adam
12-16-2004, 01:58 PM
I've never tried chucks. But, these have a really skinny sole so there great for deadlifting. The chucks i saw had a fat sole which = bigger ROM so these are better in that respect.
And IMO these are sexier;) lol

Not sure who crocop is, haven't followed mma much the past year, but what happens in a ring versus real life are entirely different things. And the fact of the matter is, a hand strike is significantly more efficient when dealing with anything near the head.

If you don't know who Crocop is, you haven't followed MMA much for a few years. He's a badass mofo from K-2 who fought in some Pride MMA matches (albeit with some altered rules) and knocked out quite a few dudes with some crazy kicks to the head. Whats beautiful is the way he sets them up with his punches, his leg speed is insane.

You're dead on about real life fightin tho, kicking to the head offers a lot more risk then reward. If you ever want some recent mma clips and you've got MSN, gimme a shout.

Those look (shoes) just like wrestling, and I have a pair are they good for squats? Oh and you can pick up a cheaper pair if they are the same. 40 or so

Rena, gimme a bit, forgot, I'll pm you later. Most likely just the tribal from elite. Don't try to pass off one of your tassled mexicana t-shirts!

Rasta, k-2 isn't really mma, so even when i followed I'd probably not have seen him. Pride's ok though, even though many of their past fights were fixed.

Justina, dunno, you tell me. I think many might be trying for the Ahnold in March, so dunno how many are willing to come up here and then head to the arnold as well. If we can get a group then anytime in february is fine by me.

Ok, now I must rant about the fcuking weather. I wake up, do my morning routine, hit my automatic car starter as I'm getting ready for work. Notice when I'm about to leave that my car isn't on. I notice also that it's REALLY FCUKING COLD out! My car won't start. I try to push it down the driveway so I can grab the other car, and of course it gets stuck, footing is tough since it's all ice. So I have to grab the other car out of the garage and run it into mine to move it onto the road, then I have to manoeuver the other car around so I can push my car back up angled onto my neighbours driveway, luckily they are gone for two weeks. Heard on the news on my way in it's -24 celsius, -34 with windchill, in the city, it's probably even colder out where I live. I can't wait till I move and have underground parking. **** weather!

Hey ElP. I think you require some :spam:

ElPietro

Made it for a chest workout. Of course my gym continues to find ways to spend money uneccessarily, most often to the detriment of anyone who lifts seriously. So now there is a lot of stuff missing as they move in new machines from some company called Technogym. It all looks pretty lame. If they bring in a weight selectorized leg press I will ****ing strangle the bitch that owns the place.

BB Bench:

135x8/135x8/225x6/245x5/255x5/265x5/225x6

*At some point I should probably get someone to spot me so I can push for an extra couple reps, but whatever. Must have a pinched nerve in my shoulder, it keeps cropping up every now and then. Right along that pointy bone at the very top of the shoulder.

Flat DB Flyes:

45x8/45x8/45x8/55x6/55x5

Skulls:

110x8/110x8/110x6

Triceps Cable Pushdown:

210x8/210x8

1-Arm Triceps Pulldown:

60x6/60x6 (mighta been 8 can't remember)

Incline Press: (TechnoGym )

200x8/200x6

Atlantis Shoulder Press:

135x8

**Meh, felt gassed and I think I will work my shoulders hard later this week so gave up.

Finished with 20 minutes on the ellyptical.

A little bit. I never really ever arched too much, but the little bit I do, I tend to maybe focus on more when I'm benching heavy, so that's when the back strain can happen. Luckily with this weight it's not an issue.

Santa doesn't visit me anymore. Hasn't come by ever since I was a kid, and waited up for him to see if he brought me the complete die-cast collection of Voltron toys, and punched him in the face when he didn't have the goods.

Lunchtime cardio: 30 minutes on the ellyptical.

Good news, as I was leaving there was a decent looking plate-loaded leg press machine sitting on a skid, so I won't have to run from the law for first degree murder after all. :)

Guido, I always have sauce for teh women. :evillaugh
