When new comers ask me for help on how to get ripped or add mass, I provide them with an example of my lifestyle (training, diet, etc) to guide them toward the right path. It's not hard to notice that most of them attribute too much importance to the theory. What they don't understand is the best knowledge they will acquire is the one from trial and error derived from the theory they've learned. Some will try to understand what happen when you put the muscle under certain stress at different angle while pointing toe 1 south west and toe 2 south east. Some keep changing from routine to routine in search of the magic one. Truth is, if only they would apply attitude to it, they'd probably see magnificent results from everything they read and then dump. What do I mean by attitude you ask?
Attitude is dedication
Attitude is perseverance/motivation
Attitude is learning to cope with your negative feelings
Attitude is beating the desire to give up
All in all, attitude is you and it will determine wether you'll be successful or not...
If you'd go see the pros, I'd be ready to put my sinep into fire that half of them don't know as much as the gurus from this board. In no particular order, here's what you need to succeed:
- genetics
- knowledge
- attitude
... not to mention, alot of your time
This is just a heads up for the intellectual dude who's spending so much time in his books, it might make him smarter, but not bigger. Also , I can't emphasize enough how much bodybuilding is not a short term activity.. give it time.

umm....
you forgot tuna. that's something you need for success. ;)
good post btw.
Well said, Marc.
I'd say your gains alone have done enough to back this post up tenfold. In fact, I'm going to put this up on my wall. Well, not the sinep in the fire part, but...

I like your philosophical side, Sinep :)
Probably a lot of the stuck-on-theory stuff comes from reading a lot of the articles in mags that seem to analyze/promote all kinds of variations and routines...why? To sell copies of course! Gotta have something *new* to attract attention.
When did you ever see a mag cover that said "Don't buy this, we have no new info for you...just keep doing whatever it is we told you to do last month."

Right on, Sinep! That is my position exactly.
And attitude is everything, except for maybe a little nookie now and then....

right on man. we can argue about technical points but if one wont do the work with the utmost intensity, then the results will be less than satisfactory
if i could add a cent or two, intensity and dedication (when i have it gains come, when i dont they are elusive)

Good post Sinep. I agree.
I think one of the reasons that we spend so much time discussing (arguing?) over the intellectual stuff is our desire to do more.
We all know that we can’t spend 15 hours a week in the gum to get big. But we want to be big. And when we are resting, or at work or whatever, we still want to do something, anything, to get bigger. So, if we know we are working out enough, and eating well, all that is left is the theory. We can’t physically do anything more so we intellectualise our desire to do more. And we end up talking about anything that we think might help.
Just my theory.

Awesome post.
I 90% agree, knowledge is one thing - applied knowledge is another.

LOL:D  :D You are sooooooooo right!
I am sure Powerman and Mac will have to do some homework before they post on this thread, I am not sure if any of their training guides mention this between the "wave summation" and "tetanic" or whatever.........
