In January 1981 I weighed 300 lbs, a few months before my 20th birthday. I lost 120 lbs from then until April 1982. After losing the weight I took up fast walking as exercise (6+ miles daily), which I have continued to the present day.
In the mid 1990s I put about 35 lbs of fat back on, mainly due to stress, inconsistency of exercise and healthy eating, and the inevitable metabolism changes that come with getting older. Determined not to return to a life of obesity, I started being more careful about what I ate, and made myself get the miles walked. I also started doing pushups and crunches.
I got my bodyweight back down, even going lower than I had been previously, down to 171-173. At this bodyweight I started working out with weights in February 2002.
My current stats are:
193 pounds (up 20 since Feb 02)
14.75" bicep (up 3")
11.75" foream (up 1")
42" chest (up 2")
34"-35" waist (up 1")
24" thigh (up 2")
18" calf (up 1")
Here is a picture taken on February 4, which is almost exactly one year since I began lifting.

Nice job, you look great! Do you have any pictures of yourself at 300 lbs for comparison?

Looking excellent. Tell me, how long did it take for your skin to shrink down? Did you have a lot of loose skin around your chest and stomach after loosing so much weight? I ask because I weighted 380lbs and dropped to 235lbs. Now I'm 259. Looking good in the pic.

I think I got lucky with the skin. I was 19-20 when I took the weight off, so I guess I was still young enough for the skin to contract somewhat. I still have loose skin in the tricep area, and I'm still prone to carry extra fat inside the thigh, the "love handle" area, navel area, and chest. Stretch marks were bad, though. They have faded somewhat but they used to be awful on the abdomen.

Just updating progress since Feb 1:
Bodyweight up to 196-198
Right bicep up to 15"
Chest up to 42-43"
slight increases in other measurements
I'm eating like mad, 4-6 meals per day, HUGE breakfast, lots of good protein, complex carbs, and veggies. Also taking in a lot of natural peanut butter, raisins, and walnuts, pecans, and almonds. Working out with weights about once every 3 days, with 2 days of walking/jogging or treadmill in between (usually 20-40 minutes, NEVER more than an hour).
Some new photos in yahoo photo album (link follows), including one of me wearing a pair of 50" waist pants from the days when I weighed 300 lbs.
Hope you all are doing well, and having good workouts and great gains.

As of March 1 I'm trying to eat very clean, up the cardio a bit, and cut some bodyfat.
My current bodyweight is 190-193, so I've dropped a few pounds, and my goal is to get my bodyfat down to around 9-10%
Still working out 3 times about every 8-9 days, with cardio days in between. Unfortunately I've been dealing with a broken toe the past two weeks, so I've been a little bit hindered by that.
