View Full Version : Hi, first post, may be a stupid question...

Hi, my name is David, and I've been working out since May '02. At first it was just a hobby I did, and like an amateur I began too hard and worked out everyday and saw diminishing effects. In late September, I finally started to study and learn about weight training and decided I needed to make an actual routine. I've been using that routine since(but switching certain exercises every 1-2 months to "shock" my muscles). I noticed tremendous gains in my arms, chest, and back, but my legs need a little more work, it's hard to do squats at home, so I decided to take weight training next semester at school to improve my physique and to learn the correct way to execute. edit- forget to add that I stopped my old routine and started the wannabebig routine #1.
My stats:
Age: 11/11/86 - 16
Height: 5'9-10"
Weight: 130-135 (depending on scale...)
Skinny but pretty ripped, I need to do more cardio for my lower abs to show.
Ok, done with my bio, here's to the question:
What is the best overall supplement that I could take to increase energy, strength, and muscle mass?

It's a tie betweem steak and milk.
:)
I wouldn't bother with anything other than a multivitamin and maybe some supplemental protein if you don't get enough in your normal diet, or an MRP for quick extra meals.

Water. On these boards, I don't think enough emphasis is placed on getting enough water in the course of your day. I started drinking about 65-70 oz. of water every 24 hours and saw a difference in the way my body performed and the way I felt. Theres an interesting article in the November issue of MuscleRag err- I mean MuscleMag on the countless benefits of water-way too many for me to type here. Seriously, I may sound like a granola, but it's the most beneficial and easiest thing you can do.

Where did you get that we don't emphasize enough water? As long as I've been here, the staple has been 1 gallon of water or more to most people that ask.
That being said, diet and exercise determine mass and strength gains. But water does help.

I haven't been posting as long as you Shao-LiN, so it's granted that I haven't seen as much of it as you have. But it seems to me that when the "best supplement" question gets asked, the answer is automatically "whey protein and a multivitamin" with hardly a mention of water. That's all.:D

I don't consider water a supplement.
Whey protein and multivitamins are supplements.

Water is not a supplement. Humans can exist without supplements.

i dont think he is tryingto say water is a supplement, he's just pushing for him to make sure he is getting enough of it. and with the right diet, a teenage kid shouldnt need supplements.

This is the part that fooled me then. Reason why people say whey protein in multivitamin in relation to "best supplement" is because they are supplements. I would fit water under what you NEED in your diet. Supplements are non-essential, they just help.

I would say an economical brand like Optimum and use it postworkout along with some simple carbs.
