I am starting this journal because I have always wanted to know what people thought of my workouts. Especially outside the realm of the same 10 people I see everyday at the gym. So basically I want people to tear me apart and all comments are welcome.

I have been out of it since right before winter break because of finals, family issues and work. Its gonna be a rough start again...

Split:
Weekends off, gotta get out:D
Monday - Chest
Tuesday - Back
Wednesday - Legs
Thursday - Shoulders
Friday - Arms

Current Stats:
5'11"
22
245 lbs.
17% BF

Goals: Lose some BF and get some mass. Shouldnt be too hard if I stick with my diet. I would like to be 230 by mid May so I am not too fat for the beaches.

All of my lifts will be done with reps of 10, but for calves, forearms and traps I will use reps of 15.

Nice strength Swole, really impressive man. 275 for 3 sets of 6 is friggin' awesome on bench. What your bench max like? 350 or so?

haha.. thanks man. I wish i could get 350, i dont know what it is because i have a really sensitive rotator cuff and i dont want to mess it up again, so i am not going to try and max out on bench unless i am feeling really frisky.

I have been lifting for about 3 and a half years or so, but with many injuries. My spleen swelled up really bad from an infection and I couldt lift for about 4 months and I cut the palm of my hand open, so I couldn't lift for about 6 months. Plus, I have a really sensitive rotator cuff because I did traveling baseball (pitcher) and Tennis when I was real young and my main sport was volleyball.

Damn duder, sounds like you've had it rough with injuries. I don't know if it works, but have you tried glucosamine for your rotator cuff?

I know.... my life is plagued with injuries.... I am going to get some glucosamin soon. thanks for reminding me.

It seems amazing how many people have hurt their rotator cuffs. It's got to be one the most frequent and it seems to be a tough one to heal. It's still one of the reason I avoid BB bench presses. Just thought I'd pipe in. :)

Rookiebldr: Its true, so many people do injure their rotator cuff. I think mine was injured because of ignorant coaches. They never told me to stretch, just sort of go out there and play hard. Plus, in HS, my gym teacher said it was ok to bench rpess everyday, he said there was no such thing as overtraining. I really started lifting junior year in HS, but i got hurt right away because the one person who i thought knew what they were doing, was obviously wrong.
I actually hurt my rotator cuff last week doing shoulder DB presses.

For Chest,
I have decided to start off with 275 everytime I do flat bench until i get 3 sets for 10 reps, then I am going to start with 315 and should be able to get hopefully right away 6 reps of 315 when i start that routinely until i get to 3 sets of 10 reps with 315. I should be at 3 sets of 275 for 10 reps by the end of march, the latest. i hope....

thanks, I wouldn't say you should kill some one, but its not a bad idea...
anyways... I would say my back is my strong point of my upper body because I get a lot of comments from people when I am doing back that I should stop so the rest of my body can catch up to it. I think they are lying thoughtuttut
As far as lifts for my back... I would have to say the T-Bar row because I dont see anyone in my gym do as much weight as I do on it. I do the T-Bar row supported with a 35LB. Barbell. I have tried the standing T-Bar row, the one with the bar going between your legs... I have done 5 plates and a 25 on it for 6 reps before. by I have a sensitive knee and I dont want to aggravate it.

I hope so!! It is hard when your roommates eat frozen pizzas all day and you are sitting there with grilled chicken and pasta and some water. ah well, i guess its a good test of will power.

Monstar: My physique, well, umm... not so good. Once I get my skin stretched out again, I will take some pics. I took some time off, so about after 4 weeks or so, i will be back to where you might be able to see a muscle. But, I plan on posting pics sometime or another.

mon-chest/calves
tues-back/abs
wed-off
thurs-legs/shoulders
fri-bicep/tricep
Weekends off.
I am in school, so it is hard for me to lift a lot during the week and of course on the weekends is when i work the most and see my friends. Plus, having a g/f take up some time too.

I am 5'11", and my bodyfat is about 16%, I can see my abs, but not really well. At least i know they are there, thats what counts.
I would really like to get my Bodyfat down to about 11-12%. I wont be ripped, but with enough mass, i will have some good shape to me. Right now i am trying to hit 230 and with my new diet, i am feeling thinner everyday, suprisingly. but, if i could get to certain poundage goals for my exercises and be about 220-225, that would be excellent.

Just a word Swole, I think that a guy your size could do more on the Shoulder workout with the side raises :)

You never know you may be pleased at your results when you reach 230.

Damn man youre my height @ 238? :eek::eek: I was around 239-240 last Christmas, and although I was kinda bulkier, I was a LOT flabbier. I prefer 210-215 by a long shot.

well, i have a really sensitive rotator cuff, so i decided to stay away from any OH presses because then my ego gets ahold of me a little bit and i want go up in weight. so i just have short rest periods, but i dont want to drop below 10 reps. For the front raises, i just wanted to get a little burn going because i dont want to do a lot of sets since i feel them a little bit during chest.

I dont feel flabby, i just kind of feel that i need to stretch out my skin a little bit. when i lift, my skin gets so friggin tight i feel like it is going to tear, but i hope that means i am on the road to rippedness. was that "

good pump today, but i feel that my biceps will never grow... :(

Hey bro'

stopped by your journal - just an idea have you done any dropsets for your arms to shock em into responding. Your about where I was with arms when I needed to shockem...What I have done in the past that works GREAT is:

load the barbell with eight 5lb plates on each side. start with 1 rep - take a plate off each side/ do 2 reps - take a plate off each side/ do 3 reps - take a plate off each side ........keep doing this without a break all the way to just the bar and finish off 10 reps with the bar which will feel like it weighs a helluvalot more than it does.

do this once for an incredible pump! if you can handle another set do it again.....I started doing this and worked my way into 3 sets. Not something for a beginner but you look like you can handle it :)

that arm workout sounds interesting. I do feel my arms dont want to grow anymore, they were once at 18.25" but i dont think i can get them back up to that point. I dont know what they are at now, but i dont think they look 18", more like 17.25 or so, plus i have zero peak to my bicep... Wouldnt i have to put 9 plates on each side to complete to 10 reps?? ah well, either way, i will try it next friday when i do bi's again. I think the best rep scheme that has allowed my arms to grow the most was with doing sets of6-8 reps, but i think that might have lead to my elbow pain that i get now when i lift. got any good ones for tri's??

Hey....uhm i dont have anything for tris I use to race on my bicycle in germany, and after hours and hours of riding up/down hills with your arms on the handlebars, my tris have been huge ever since. (this was when I was 21-24). but yea i did those drop set thingys and got it helped me get my arms past the 16 1/4 mark to almost 17....course now you couldnt tell, I am just getting back into it again after over a year off the weights (you lose muscle way too fast if your not eating enough protein :(

i think i have really good calves because i used to bike so much as a kid, plus i was really into volleyball. i know how you feal about not being a while, it was really hard for me to get back into after i took some time off, good luck with that and i hope those arms get back up to 17"!!

I already pretty much tore my right pec a while back, so I am done tearing things for a while. I definately want to get lean. I dont need to be ripped, but to be able to have good shape is key.

135X6 - 185X6 - 225X6 - 245X4 - 275X6 - 295X3.5 (figured i'd post my warmups too) I'm really trying to keep my form as best as possible on these because I want to get to 405 on bench, obviously because it looks cool:D and I dont want to re-injure my shoulder. I have switched to a closer grip bench, the wide grip is what i think messed me up

ROASTED!!! My chest was done by the 2nd set of these, but I wanted to try 4 plates a side;)
Tried a few wide dips at the end:mad: Needless to say, I am a wuss, or as some people like to call me, pansy (**cough** HomeYield)

Finished off with my Killer Calf Routine, I wont be walking the rest of the day...

I have realized a few things tonight...

1. My dad was a big guy. I am going to be a big guy. Therefore, I will never be thin or lean. So what is the point of me trying to get lean and be ripped?? It ain't never gonna happen.

2. I have an obsession with fast food.

3. I hate school. This is nothing new though...

4. I might as well bulk forever. Well, until I hit 102 years old.

5. I have an eating disorder. (over-eating)

6. I am in debt because I spend too much money on food.

Thus, my life as one big ball of fat can now continue because of my realization of my future as a bodybuilder...

I do those before every chest and shoulder session. I do 8 total sets for 10 reps.

I havent done squats in about 2.5 years due to my knee injury, but for some reason i decided to give it a go. And it didnt hurt for once. So i did really light weights as to not mess anything up. but the main problem is, i am not flexible enough to hold the bar, my hands reach all the way to the ends. it actually kind of agrevates my rotator cuffs.

I heard some pretty disturbing news over the weekend. If you mix fats and carbs in a meal, your body basically sotres all of the fats and uses the carbs for energy because the carbs are easier to break down than the fats. So your meals can either be carbs/proteins or fats/proteins, no carbs and fats in a meal.
but i tried doing some diets like the pros. i get so irritable and i get headaches!!! I went to arby's, i felt like a million bucks because i went there!!!! i am not eating these crazies bull$hit diets. Arby's is the key to success!!!! Plus, if i eat meals that have high protein and just carbs or fats, my body needs to eat about 5 minutes later, i consume way too many calories then because my body wants to eat so much. but at arby's, i am satisfied for hours. hmmm.... damn diets!!!

My joints ache and my body just plain hurts. I am taking the next few weeks really light and then for my spring break I am going to not work out at all to let my body rest. I think i am going to start a westside plan since it will shock my body into development. My body is used to going heavy for sets of 6-8 forever. i will go further into development a little later.

Since i just found out that i am going to the bahamas and i have been bulking up to this point, i am screwed
so i am doing massive cardio and abs every other day
the other days i am doing an overall superset body workout
no carbs for a week and a half either.
yes this is a crash diet, but ah well....
its only for a week and a half. i am going tanning every other day too. i guess we will see what happens. i didnt want to lift heavy for a few more weeks anyways before i start a new routine.
anyone think this is bad or good??

I see people do these with bent legs and they have 45 pound plates on the bar and they dont even touch the ground!!! I have always done these with my feet close together, keeping the bar close to my body throughout the lift, legs straight, no bend, narrow grip and load up 25's on the side so i can get a deep stretch out of them, i always tap the ground with the plates, anyone else do this??? or am i in the wrong????

On those SLDL's I know what you mean. I lloked at quite a few links here before doing them and I really like them! I do mine on an 8" box, feet together, legs straight (isnt that the point, I mean it is called a STRAIGHT leg deadlift?), and I lower the bar till it touches the top of my shoe before coming up. I dont lock my knees or anything, just get a good stretch out of it. Since the bar is touching the top of my shoe, I really feel it in my hams thus far like this!

Hey man, glad to see you're gonna start workin' the knee. I do my SLDL's on a box as well to get a larger ROM, but I do keep a SLIGHT bend in my knees. Its just the point before locking them. I have a feeling you're gonna start yanking some big numbers on DL's, provided your knee is tip-top.

yeah, i am going too, i was thinking, it has actually has been 4 years since i have seriously lifted on any legs. as you can obviously tell, my leg strength is super weak!!! but that is because of my bad knee, but i have decided to say F it, if i tear it worse, cool, if not, cooler!!! so in about 3 weeks, i am going to try for the one rep max when my body has gotten used to the movement and when i get back from spring break.

Really comfortable you say? I've been looking for some new shoes and if they really are that comfortable I might just do that. How thin are the soles? I like running shoes with thin soles. Normally the thinner the soles the lighter ths shoes and I'm just not a fan of blocky heavy shoes. That might be why I haven't bought a pair of tennis shoes in over 4 years.

ACTUALLY!!!! I went and played golf today, for free!!! we just walked on the course because it is still winter rules, so everything closes at 5, so at 5:15 we had plenty of light to play a quick 9, didnt shoot too bad. made some stupid errors, but this was only my second time out, shot 2 over on a par 36. but i will be breaking par by mid summer no problem, PGA, here i come!!!

had a pretty poor workout today
i am starting a new routine where i do a lot of drop sets for higher reps to help condition my muscles and get lean. i odnt know the exact split or details, but i will write it all in when i get a chance

some more flye work, i dont recall the weights i used.
i also did some tri work too.

yeah.... my diet has sucked, and i cant bring myself to get into the gym right now. for some reason i just dont want to go. i get like this every spring and then once the fall comes, i pacl on about 50 pounds. ah well... someday i will be back in there.
