If you're looking purely at hardware specs, xbox is the superior machine. However, you should look at the library for each system and decide which has more games that you like.

Xbox is the more powerful graphically. The deciding factors to choosing a system would be XBL (Xbox live) though. The online component of Xbox is far superior to the ps2 version. If your not interested on the online component just look at the library of games. Keep in mind though graphics though they do not make the game they do enhance it quite a bit. IMO the sports games on the Xbox far superior to the ps2 ones because they are much more "pretty". VC actually looks and dunks like he does in real life. (PS if you really are into sports games look into the Sega line of sports games. They are much more like simulations rather then the arcade slam fests that EA puts out.)

I prefer PS2. Has tons of RPGs (the genre I prefer), as well as alot of company support.

RR - you may want to wait until the PS3 comes out. It will beat the crap out of both systems.

Both are nice systems. Really depends on the games you like. The XBox does have slightly better performance.

ps3 is a pipe dream. Not really but it's going to take a lot of luck for this to make it out to market on time. I wouldn't hold my breath for this distributed computing scheme ("Cell"). It's going to make the ps2 look like the block station in kindergarden.

PS2. Just because GTA Vice City is available only for the PS2.

RR, go for the Xbox definitely mate. The only reason ps2 has a better library of titles is because it's been out for longer. Xbox is far superior to ps2, and a lot of games that are on ps2 are also on Xbox.

tank23, yeh i read that all the good games from ps2 r coming to the xbox, metal gear solid is already out, final fantasy is coming out, etc etc etc. Better performance, better graphics better sound
takes less time to load, it comes at a cost though u have to be patient as all the good games are coming out later in the year, not to mention that there are some great games already but no where near the amount sony2 has made

GameCube. I am an anarchist.
Metroid Prime, Zelda: Wind Waker, Mario Franchise, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals, Animal Crossing, Sonic Franchise,
If you grew up in the 80's, you'd know all about nintendo and have wonderful memories. At the very least I'd get the Game Boy Advance SP...They've ported a TON of excellent Super NES games over and made a bunch of new great titles (Castlevanias, Zeldas, etc).
I've played PS2 and wasn't impressed and all of the games my friend has for XBOX are sports games, so I guess I can't say much for those systems, but my GC is wonderful.

GC is a good buy now that the price has dropped down to £79.

If you do a search, you will find that this has been discussed at length more than once. So you may find better answers there. I'm sure some people don't want to type out the same thing over and over again, so you may not get some more info/opinions trying the search engine.

ah yes The Legend of Zelda. I remember the original Nintendo had a game, might have been Decathlon (it was also on Atari, talk about going back in time). You bought a mat that hooked to the system and did all the events using it LOL. I remember my friends mom looking at us like we were a couple of lunatics running on that thing LOL..........

ps2, greater selection of games (that are good)
sure mgs is going on xbox but didnt that come out like 2 yrs ago for ps2.
ps2 has alot of the fighting games i like, xbox does have cvs2 but i hear its realy hard to do moves...
ps2 has the best controller setup ever (2nd best would be gamecube).
if controllers werent a problem id advise u to get a dreamcast (i think im the only one who has a problem with dreamcast controllers oh well..)
dreamcast is the way to go ;), i might buy that
You can get a used Dreamcast at Ebgames for like $30. It actually has some good games on it, even though most of them have already been ported over to the ps2, xbox, and gamecube.

Super Puzzle Fighter for DC was the best! It's coming out for the GBA I think. I want it.

actually the reason id get dreamcast (but i have no cash) is cuz u can burn ANYTHING onto a disk and play it, u wont even need to buy the games, (i think u can burn ps2 games on a disk and then play it on dreamcast). partially the reason they went outta buisness.
