Actually, wide hips can be helpful if you wish to compete in weightlifting events, obviously a detriment for bodybuilding, but good for powerlifting etc.

hmm how so? I honestly have no intention of ever being a pro body builder i just wanna gain a lot of mass..and strength
and i dont think my moms hips are to wide.

hey matx? do you have access to a tape measure?

it would help if we could get a waist to hip ratio....that way we can figure out if this is really a problem or just something minor that's been magnified.

btw - to measure:

take your waist circumference at your belly button, and hip circumference would be the widest point of your hips.

A problem? I don't think wide hips are really problematic, unless you wish to be a bodybuilder. Wider hips are conducive to better leverage and thus greater power output for the lower body.

well chris, i agree that girls are better than boys..but....;)

i'm kidding......i agree it will work to his advantage, however, he might perceive it as a flaw, and actual figures might allow him to accept it and move on, if necessary.

hmmm this is how bad it is..
cut and paste the link http://www.geocities.com/gormathew/Pict0060.JPG my physique is better thats an old pic but u get the idea with the waste hip thing it hasnt gotten better i dont think.....hehe, i should also add even though u cant tell in pic im 6ft 150... my fingers dont meet around my wrist either so my frame isnt that small either..

I believe a lot of sites owned by yahoo and other sites with a lot of traffic will be shut down for the next couple of days as a security measurement because of the Code Red worm:( Just a thought

I got the same Prob, but don't worry just keep gaining mass, abdomen and back and your hips will look smaller.
Unfortunately you migh never have a big V shape but you'll be more wide, more like a wall.

If you don't plan to be a Pro BB it doesn't matter, in fact people will look smaller next to you.

Number one you are sucking in so hard your ribcage is concave. Number two you do not have a chest.

Broaden up, and you'll be fine.

08-06-2001, 04:17 PM
LOL at Yaz...I agree.

08-06-2001, 04:26 PM
i swear to god i wasnt sucking in anything my ribs do show like that....

The answer to all your problems: Eat more.

08-06-2001, 05:49 PM
i agree....eat more, lift heavy.

by building your physique up and out, you will minimize your hips.

08-06-2001, 05:59 PM
Bro how can you say you're not sucking in? You looked like a kid who's eaten a loaf of bread trying to squeeze a turd out. The clutching of the hands gives it away. Maybe it's an unconscious thing?

Just eat smart, Mat. You need to grow.

LMAO...Yaz on a roll

Matx, you have the classic ectomorph physique. If you train properly, this visual problem will greatly improve. Please note the qualifier.

08-07-2001, 04:10 AM
Those hips are gonna help you squat. Get under the rack.

08-07-2001, 10:50 AM
yes i know im an ectomorph but im not done growing either and my dad told me when he graduated high school he was 6ft 140 and like 2 years later he was 180 without even working out seriously.

08-07-2001, 11:43 AM
Matx... sounds like your dad put on the freshman 15 (and then some). You might put on weight as you grow, but you want to make sure that weight is lean muscle mass, not fat.

Your hips aren't big. It is just that your upper body is too thin. More than likely, what is poking out is not bone, but your obliques. Do you do any form of martial arts? Soccer? Or any other sport that has a great deal of twisting in the lower body?

I had a similar problem. I had been doing martial arts since I was 5, and had built up very strong obliques, but I had not done any other form of weight-lifting, so when I started to lift (around 18) I had to catch my upper body up to my lower body.

Don't worry too much about it. You have A LOT of room to grow, and it will be less noticeable (if noticeable at all) a few years down the road.

08-07-2001, 12:09 PM
thanks.. i took martial arts when i was little but i had to quit when the place moved locations for a few years..and yea i used to play soccer and i sit really weird at my computer so im contantly twisted..

08-07-2001, 12:17 PM
Actually Matx, I'd say that your mom's hips are a little wider than average.

08-07-2001, 01:14 PM
dude when i first started working out i had the exact same build as u, hips and all. once u start gaining some muscle your hips will not be so obvious. just keep working out and time will fix it.

08-09-2001, 03:10 AM
I have a straight figure, meaning my hips are as wide as my bustline, but as far as measurements go, my chest is still larger. so, I am concentrating on widening my shoulders a bit to compensate for the wide load.
