An update for you all
Last night #1 seed Texas beat the Spartans 85-76. So what do MSU students do... RIOT. I saw over 2,000 people run through the parking lot of our brother fraternity at 8:30 PM to rush Grand River. 8 fires were started as well as at least 4 cars overturned. President McPherson swears that students will be suspended and punished after officials review police video. I did see at least 20 police cars at one point in the evening, three counties were brought in to provide mounted divisions, and every officer was dressed in riot gear by 7 p.m.

I guess they can't handle the fact that a superior team beat them.

Hopefully, they handle the situation better than Purdue did the last time they had a riot. They were trying to go after people in pictures that showed no evidence of them doing anything. Their logic was that if you were outside during the riot, you must have been damaging things.
Of course, I was outside with a camera ready to snap a photo of anyone if they tried to vandalize my car. It scared the sh*t out of me when the crowd marched within inches of my car.
If they want to know what causes the riots more than anything, all they have to do is look at the media. Our last riot had the news giving headlines like, "Purdue prepares for a riot tonight" That translates to many students as, "Come on out, we dare you to riot." They even had helicopters flying around BEFORE anyone started rioting.
Hopefully this thread won't turn into a "This would never happen at my school" thread. I remember everyone from IU saying the same thing two years ago about our riot. Guess what happened a year later? Yep, they had riots after last year's tournament.

In all honesty MSU students just like to riot. A lot of people were happy to see us back on the list of party schools. This year we were ranked by Playboy and by the Princeton Review.
I will admit I stoped by our brother fraternity because it backs up to Cedar Village, and we went and saw the riots. None of us were drinking or throwing objects. Just taking it in and taking a few pictures.
Most of the younger students don't realize that they can and might be punished by the 1999 rule made about off campus illeagal activities after the championship riots.
And these actions do give MSU a bad reputation, but it's the younger students that don't know how to be a Spartan with pride. To show you support your team doesn't mean you need to start fires, damage property, and act like a drunk fool.
As we will hear in class for the next week "Spartans act with class" it became a huge slogan after the 1999 riots. The events last night were small in comparision, but I can imagine that it will still be on a lot of the news chanels this afternoon and evening.

never understood stupid things like rioting over game or rioting in general. I think the police out to go and knock a few skulls around, maybe people would think more next time.
